Electrochemical Behavior and Corrosion Study of Electrodeposits of Zn and Zn-Fe-Co on Steel

From industrialized baths, free of cyanide, the corrosion behavior of electrodeposits of zinc and zinc alloys was studied by means of electrochemical tests in aerated solution of 3.5% (0.6 M) NaCl at pH 8.2. In literature, several studies are found about zinc coatings and zinc alloys, for example, Zn-Ni and Zn-Co, nevertheless there is little about the ternary alloy Zn-Fe-Co. The Fe presence in the alloy results in a good adhesion to the substrate and allows application of these materials at higher temperatures. The electrochemical tests were carried out by obtaining open circuit potential curves with immersion time, potentiodynamic polarization curves and cyclic voltammetry. From the obtained results, the large potential differences observed between the steel and the electrodeposits showed that the last protect the substrate, acting as a sacrifice metal. The tests disclosed similar behaviors in both the current densities and the corrosion potential for electrodeposits of Zn and Zn-Fe-Co. After chromate passivation process, a significant decrease in corrosion density was noted for Zn and when the system was de-aerated there was change in the cathodic process mechanism.

Growth and Biomass Allocation of <i>Muhlenbergia schreberi</i>

The main goal of this research was to evaluate the growth of nimblewill (Muhlenbergia schreberi), an emerging threat to forage grass. Our initial experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design, with 17 treatments (i.e., weeks) and 4 repetitions. Seventeen growth evaluations (i.e., treatments) were carried out every 7 days, totaling a 119-day cycle, followed by an analysis of the variables such as stolon number, length, number of leaves, dry matter, biological productivity, growth rate, and relative growth rate. A second experiment was conducted over a 5-week period to compare the growth variable between nimblewill plants and pastures. For all variables, the results showed that the weed grass developed slowly within the first 5 weeks after germination, indicating that this would be the best time to implement a chemical or cultural control measure. It was also observed that cultures with a rapid growth in the first 5 weeks after emergence could easily suppress weed growth. At the end of the experiment, stabilization of all variables was observed. However, additional observations are required to obtain more accurate results.

The aim of this study was to gather information on the use of stable isotopes to measure total body water and body composition scan in children. We selected studies in the last 13 years, in addition to classical studies on the subject, indexed in the database PubMed, LILACS, BVS and SciELO. The body composition was characterized by the amount of bone tissue, muscle and adipose tissue, also including the organs as well as levels of body water. Your knowledge becomes increasingly important in light of the changes that occur in the nutritional status of various types of diseases in frameworks, such as diabetes mellitus, protein energy malnutrition, in cases of obesity and metabolic syndrome. The ability to accurately assess body fat mass especially in children is associated with the importance of effective strategies for prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. Historically, in addition to clinical applications, measurements of total body water were used to determine body composition in nutritional studies. To the knowledge of the body composition, the body water can be measured and used by the ingestion of a dose of labeled water. The measured isotope enrichment is a function of the amount of body water. The method of deuterium is particularly interesting for the assessment of body composition in children, due to its characteristics of collection and analysis.
