Adipose tissue mass in mammals is thought to expand with an increase in both volume and total number of the *** findings suggest that in normal-weight as well as obese individuals,the adipocyte number is set during adolescence prior to adulthood,whereas the subsequent increase in size predominantly drives *** simultaneous existence of large and small adipocytes and their unsynchronized growth,even within the same adipose tissue depot,argues against simple filling-up of emerging adipocytes with lipids and lipid droplets(LDs).Consequently,it is tempting to speculate about signals sent by large adipocytes to order small adipocytes the take-over of the burden of lipid *** there is experimental evidence for three distinct types of inter-adipocyte signals,***-to-cell contacts,adipokines,and other soluble factors and *** recently,microvesicles have been shown(i)to harbour the glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored(c)AMP-degrading phosphodiesterase Gce1 and 5′-nucleotidase CD73,(ii)to be released from large adipocytes,(iii)to interact with small adipocytes,and(iv)to transfer Gce1 and CD73 to plasma membranes and LDs of small adipocytes where they degrade(c)*** sequence of events leads to the up-regulation of lipid storage in small adipocytes in response to the microvesicle-encoded‘take-over’signal from large adipocytes.A model is proposed for the maturation of small adipocytes driven by large ones along a gradient of those inter-adipocyte *** modulation of inter-adipocyte communication and thereby adipocyte maturation may be useful for the therapy of metabolic diseases.

The systems sciences are based on a universal language of systems which can be used within most academic disciplines in their endeavors for exploring the world. Currently, systems sciences cover a wide variety of different approaches like complex adaptive systems, resilient systems or systems engineering. One of the future extensions of the systems sciences comes through the applications of second-order systems science as a new field of reflexive studies on first-order systems science. This article provides a general background on the relations of first-order science and second-order science in general and then goes on to sketch a basic outline for the second-order systems sciences and their potentials for quality control and for innovations for the first-order systems sciences.

On 14 March 2019,Zimbabwe was hit by Cyclone Idai,leaving immeasurable destruction of unprecedented magnitude in its *** Chimanimani District,many lives were lost,many people were reported missing,and others were *** question that immediately comes to mind is:Was the country prepared to manage the Cyclone Idai disaster?Reflecting on the community experiences,the purpose of this research was to interrogate the strength of the disaster risk reduction legislation and institutions in Zimbabwe in the face of meteorological *** research also evaluated the extent of the impact Cyclone Idai had on the Chimanimani communities and the factors that increased the vulnerability to the cyclone.A mixed method approach that involved 1180 participants was *** study found that disaster risk management legislation and institutions in Zimbabwe are *** Idai resulted in the loss of many human lives,loss of livelihoods,and massive damage to *** cyclone exposed capacity and policy gaps in Zimbabwe’s disaster risk management *** study makes a number of recommendations,including strengthening disaster legislation and policy,and disaster risk *** the communities’response to the disaster occurrence,the study also recommends strengthening social capital.

During bean seed storage, yield can be lost due to infestations of Acanthoscelides obtectus Say, the bean weevil. The use of resistant varieties has shown promising results in fighting these insects, reducing infestation levels and eliminating chemical residues from the beans. The expression of resistance to A. obtectus in bean varieties is frequently attributed to the presence of phytohemagglutinins, protease inhibitors and alpha-amylase, and especially to variants of the protein arcelin, which reduce the larval viability of these insects. To evaluate the effect of bean seed storage time on the resistance expression of bean varieties to A. obtectus, tests with seeds of three ages （freshly-harvested, 4-month-old, and 8-monthold） were conducted in the laboratory, using four commercial varieties： Carioca Pitoco, Ipa 6, Porrillo 70, Onix; four improved varieties containing arcelin protein： Arc. 1, Arc.2, Arc. 3, Arc.4; and three wild varieties also containing arcelin protein： ***, Arc.3S, and Arc. 5S. The Arc.5S, ***, and Arc.2 varieties expressed high antibiosis levels against the weevil; Arc.1 and Arc3S expressed the same mechanism, but at lower levels. The occurrence of oviposition non-preference was also observed in Arc.5S and Arc. 1S. The Arc.3 and Arc. 4 varieties expressed low feeding non-preference levels against A. obtectus. The expression of resistance in arcelin-bearing, wild or improved varieties was affected during the storage of seeds, and was high under some parameters but low in others. The results showed that addition of chemical resistance factors such as protein arcelin via genetic breeding may be beneficial in improving the performance of bean crops.

The Mayo-Darley massif is an anorogenic complex of the Cameroon Line that has a mantle ***-bearing rocks were analyzed by ICP-AES and INAA analytical *** purpose of this work was to provide new geochemical data for the Mayo-Darley tin formation and to understand its petrogenesis and the origin of tin *** Mayo-Darley tin deposit is made up of tin-granite,and tin-greisen,greisenification was developed on the borders of quartz *** rocks belong to the alkaline series and were classified into acid(SiO2-=61.6%–73.8%;65.4%–98%respectively)and basic(42.9%–47%SiO_(2))*** showed enrichment in HSFE,LILE,Ga/Al and chondrite normalized REE patterns indicating LREE enrichment relative to HREE with a negative Eu anomaly,only sample SB8 of tin-granite showed Eu/Eu*=*** display metaluminous,peralkaline,peraluminous,ferroan,high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic,alkalic to calcic affinity,and crystallized at800°*** chemistry of this deposit reflects the primary composition of granite,quartz monzonite,gabbro,and foid *** complex experienced multi-stage sub-solidus hydrothermal fluid reactions and shows variable alteration of feldspars alkali *** rocks are classified as A1-type granite,overlap with the OIB field,and were derived from a within-plate setting,similar to mantle non plumederived *** origin of tin mineralization in MayoDarley has a complex evolution,tin mineralization was derived from hydrothermal and hydrogenous metal-rich deposits and shows Sn–Hf–Zr and Sn–Tl–Nb *** new data confirm the complexity of the Mayo-Darley tin complex and elucidate the origin of tin mineralization.

Feature selection for energy system modeling: Identification of relevant time series information

Heuristic or clustering based time series aggregation methods are often used to reduce temporal complexity of energy system models by selecting representative ***,these methods potentially neglect relevant information of time series(e.g.,distribution parameters).To identify relevant time series parameters,feature selection algorithms can be *** present research contributes by(a)developing a new feature selection approach based on clustering,nested modeling and regression(CNR)which is designed for applications requiring high selectivity and using different data sets,(b)comparing and evaluating CNR with feature selection methods available from the literature(e.g.,LASSO)and(c)identifying relevant information of the time series applied in energy system models,in particular those of demand,photovoltaic and *** show that CNR achieves on average up to 101%lower mean absolute errors when methods are directly ***,CNR better identifies relevant information when the number of selected features is *** disadvantage of CNR,however,is its high computational effort.A potential remedy to counter this is the combination with another method(e.g.,as pre-feature selection).In terms of relevant information,energy systems including photovoltaic are mainly characterized by the correlation between demand and photovoltaic time series as well as the range and the 35%quantile of *** energy systems include wind power,the minimum and mean of wind as well as the correlation between demand and wind time series are relevant *** implications of these findings are discussed.

In this paper we present a deterministic transmission dynamic compartmental model for the spread of the novel coronavirus on a college campus for the purpose of analyzing strategies to mitigate an *** goal of this project is to determine and compare the utility of certain containment strategies including gateway testing,surveillance testing,and contact tracing as well as individual level control measures such as mask wearing and social *** modify a standard SEIR-type model to reflect what is currently known about *** also modify the model to reflect the population present on a college campus,separating it into students and *** is done in order to capture the expected different contact rates between groups as well as the expected difference in outcomes based on age known for *** aim to provide insight into which strategies are most effective,rather than predict exact numbers of *** analyze effectiveness by looking at relative changes in the total number of cases as well as the effect a measure has on the estimated basic reproductive *** find that the total number of infections is most sensitive to parameters relating to student *** also find that contact tracing can be an effective control strategy when surveillance testing is ***,we validate the model using data from Villanova University's online COVID-19 Dashboard from Fall 2020 and find good agreement between model and data when superspreader events are incorporated in the model as shocks to the number of infected individuals approximately two weeks after each superspreader event.

Parkinson`s disease(PD)is a progressive,disabling neurodegenerative disorder with onset of motor and non-motor *** reduce quality of life of PD patients and cause caregiver *** review aims to provide a survey of possible therapeutic options for treatment of motor and non motor symptoms of PD and to discuss their relation to each ***-B-Inhibitors,NMDA antagonists,dopamine agonists and levodopa with its various application modes mainly improve the dopamine associated motor symptoms in *** armentarium of PD drugs only partially influences the onset and occurrence of non motor *** PD features predominantly result from non dopaminergic *** features,such as seborrhea,hyperhidrosis,orthostatic syndrome,salivation,bladder dysfunction,gastrointestinal disturbances,and neuropsychiatric symptoms,such as depression,sleep disorders,psychosis,cognitive dysfunction with impaired execution and impulse control may *** therapy of these non motor symptoms complicates long-term PD drug therapy due to possible occurrence of drug interactions,-side effects,and altered pharmacokinetic behaviour of applied *** substituting compounds themselves may contribute to onset of these non motor *** complicates the differentiation from the disease process itself and influences therapeutic options,which are often limited because of additional morbidity with necessary concomitant drug therapy.
