Soil is an integral component of the global environmental system which supports the quality and diversity of terrestrial life on ***,it is vital to consider the processes and impacts of soil degradation on society,especially on the provision of environmental goods and services,including food security and climate change mitigation and *** societies devoted to soil science play significant roles in reducing soil degradation and promoting soil conservation by advancing scientificknowledge,education and environmental *** ESSC was founded on 4 November 1988,with the aims to:*** research on soil degradation,soil protection and soil and water *** a network for the exchange of knowledge about soil degradation processes and soil conservation research and *** publications on major issues relating to soil degradation and soil and water *** regulators and policy-makers on soil issues,especially soil degradation,protection and *** societal challenges that can be addressed through better soil protection,advancing knowledge and scientific approaches to soil protection and sustainable management,mean the ESSC embraces the on-going development,application,review and constructive criticism of highly innovative scientific soil conservation methods,In this context,the ESSC analyses and publicizes the roles and functions of soil in natural and human-modified systems and the functional optimization of soils to ensure sustainable environmental protection.'The thin layer of soil that forms a patchy covering over the continents controls our awn existence and that of every other animal of the land' (Rachel Carson (1962) in'Silent Spring).

In recent years,unfalsified adaptive switching supervisory control（UASSC） has emerged as an effective technique for tackling the problem of controlling uncertain plants only on the basis of the plant I/O *** aim of this paper is to construct a novel switching logic,which,when combined with appropriate test functions,makes it possible to extend UASSC,so far restricted to time-invariant systems,to the case of systems whose dynamics are subject to infrequent but possibly large variations.

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration for suspected malignancies adjacent to the gastrointestinal tract

AIM:To investigate the impact of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration(EUS-FNA)in association with a multidisciplinary team evaluation for the detection of gastrointestinal ***:A cohort of 1019 patients with suspected malignant lesions adjacent to the gastrointestinal tract received EUS-FNA after a standardized multidisciplinary team evaluation(MTE)and were divided into 4 groups according to their specific malignant risk score(MRS).Patients with a MRS of 0(without detectable risk of malignancy)received only EUS without *** patients with a MRS score ranging from 1(low risk)-through 2(intermediate risk)-to 3(high risk),EUS-FNA cytology of the lesion was planned for a different time and was prioritized for those patients at higher risk for *** accuracy,efficiency and quality assessment for the early detection of patients with potentially curable malignant lesions were evaluated for the whole cohort and in the different classes of *** time to definitive cytological diagnosis(TDCD),accuracy,sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values,and the rate of inconclusive tests were calculated for all patients and for each MRS ***:A total of 1019 patients with suspected malignant lesions were evaluated by *** 515patients of 616 with true malignant lesions the tumor was diagnosed by EUS-FNA;421 patients with resectable lesions received early surgical treatment,and 94patients received *** overall diagnostic accuracy for the 1019 lesions in which a final diagnosis was obtained by EUS-FNA was *** patients were stratified by MTE into 4 classes of MRSs,a higher rate of patients in the group with higher cancer risk(MRS-3)received early treatment and EUSFNA showed the highest level of accuracy(1.0).TDCD was also shorter in the MRS-3 *** number of patients who received surgical treatment or chemo-radiotherapy was significantly higher in the MRS-3 patient group(36.3%in MRS-3,10

Lower Blepharoplasty Review, Transcon-junctival vs. Transcutaneous Approach

Currently in lower blepharoplasty, the transconjunctival approach indication has been limited to young patients without skin excess and prominence of bags;in our practice this access has become the preferred technique in most of our cases because it is simpler, faster, prevents bad scarring, produces less orbicularis muscle trauma, and decreases postoperative edema and possible retractions (ectropion) in patients with decreased lower palpebral tone. Objective: To identify important concepts when deciding this approach. Material and Methods: Retrospective review of 177 patients who underwent lower blepharoplasty by a single surgical group. Regarding techniques, the transconjunctival approach was selected in 42% of patients while the transcutaneous technique was preferred in 58%. Results: A lower rate of complications was observed by the transconjunctival approach, with greater patient satisfaction. Conclusions: In our experience, due to its simplicity and less traumatic effect on the patient, the transconjunctival approach is an ideal technique, except in cases where there is lower eyelid weakness and surgical resolution is needed.

Surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is considered a standard of care for patients with chronic liver disease who are at risk of developing this *** studies have shown that surveillance can improve the prognosis of patients diagnosed with HCC through an increased likelihood of application of curative or effective *** of liver ultrasonography(US)every 6 mo is the recommended surveillance program to detect early HCCs,and a positive US has to entrain a well-defined recall policy based on contrast-enhanced,dynamic radiological imaging or biopsy for the diagnosis of *** HCC fulfills the accepted criteria regarding cost-effective cancer screening and surveillance,the implementation of surveillance in clinical practice is defective and this has a negative impact on the cost-effectiveness of the *** of both physicians and patients is of paramount importance in order to improve the surveillance application and its benefits in patients at risk of *** promotion of specific educational programs for practitioners,clinicians and patients is instrumental in order to expand the correct use of surveillance in clinical practice and eventually improve HCC prognosis.

Abdominal panniculitis as a presentation of Munchausen Syndrome

Factitious disorders including Munchausen’s syn drome are encountered by all clinicians. A considerable number of cases of Munchausen’s syndrome are under-diagnosed in clinical practice. We present a 34-year-old man who was admitted with symptoms of epigastric pain, vomiting and peri-umbilical ecchymosis. Physical examination showed signs of inflammation in the abdominal wall with tenderness and guarding in the upper abdomen. However, various blood tests were unremarkable. Computed Tomography and demonstrated anterior abdominal wall panniculitis. After many investigations looking into various aetiological factors that could lead to fat necrosis, a diagnosis of Munchausen’s syndrome was made and the patient was discharged to the care of the local general doctor practice following psychiatric input.
