MIS 5e sea surface temperature estimation;a multi-proxy approach using a marine macrofossil assemblage(Mar Piccolo,Gulf of Taranto,Southern Italy)

It is reported a multi-proxy palaeoclimatic study conducted on a MIS 5e calcarenite from the Mar Piccolo Basin(MP),Gulf of Taranto(GT)(Central Mediterranean).The calcarenite returned a rich malacofauna consisting of 120 extant species,including four of the tropical Senegalese Fauna,today absent in the *** biogeographic-climatic affinity of the assemblage shows,compared to today,a double percentage of warm affinity species,while the cold affinity species are nearly equally represented,indicating a warmer but not strictly tropical *** is confirmed by the most recurring preferred SST ranges of the assemblage,indicating an average of 20℃.The skeletal compositions of five well-preserved molluscan and coral specimens were analyzed for trace elements and stable isotopes for further mean SST *** the comparison of the results of several equations available in literature,it appears that only some SST estimations are realistic,converging into similar values of,on average,20.8±0.9℃.Considering all the used proxies,the MIS 5e SST difference compared to today falls in the range 1.2—2.0℃for the GT(being a more reasonable scenario)and 2.0—2.8℃for the *** is not a firmly tropical-like SST setting as suggested by the sole Senegalese fauna,indicating at least 2.7℃—3.5℃more than today’s GT and MP,*** approximations and assumptions made for obtaining SST values with any single proxy indicate the need of a multi-proxy approach to define the best SST estimation.

Noninfectious interstitial lung disease during infliximab therapy:Case report and literature review

Pulmonary abnormalities are not frequently encountered in patients with inflammatory bowel ***,lung toxicity can be induced by conventional medications used to maintain remission,and similar evidence is also emerging for *** present the case of a young woman affected by colonic Crohn’s disease who was treated with oral mesalamine and became steroid-dependent and refractory to azathioprine and *** was referred to our clinic with a severe relapse and was treated with infliximab,an antitumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)antibody,to induce *** an initial benefit,with decreases in bowel movements,rectal bleeding and C-reactive protein levels,she experienced shortness of breath after the *** interstitial lung disease was *** mesalamine and infliximab were discontinued,and steroids were introduced with slow but progressive improvement of symptoms,radiology and functional *** represents a rare case of interstitial lung disease associated with infliximab therapy and the effect of drug withdrawal on these lung *** the increasing use of anti-TNF-α therapies and the increasing reports of pulmonary abnormalities in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases,this case underlines the importance of a careful evaluation of respiratory symptoms in patients undergoing infliximab therapy.

Is there still a place for docetaxel rechallenge in prostate cancer?

Three-weekly docetaxel plus prednisone is the standard first-line cytotoxic treatment for patients with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer(m CRPC). Today, several new treatment options are available for patients with tumor progression after first-line docetaxel: Abiraterone, enzalutamide, cabazitaxel, sipuleucel-T immunotherapy, and the radionuclide radium-223. However, despite the evolving scenario in CRPC treatment, the optimal sequencing of the innovative therapies remains unclear. The reintroduction of docetaxel at the occurrence of disease progression after a drug holiday(docetaxel rechallenge) was often proposed, and this chemotherapeutic agent showed to maintain antitumor activity in m CRPC patients. Docetaxel rechallenge may still constitute a valid treatment option mainly for patients with favorable response to first-line docetaxel, at least > 3 mo progression-free interval, age less than 75 years, good performance status, and acceptable docetaxel toxicity. The risk of cumulative toxicity must be evaluated, since sensory neuropathy, nail disorders and fatigue might occur on docetaxel rechallenge.

Bartonella infection in asymptomatic horses and donkeys from Tuscany,Central Italy

Objective: To investigate the occurrence of Bartonella sp. infection in asymptomatic horses and donkeys living in Tuscany, Central ***: Blood samples were collected from 77 horses and 15 donkeys and tested by indirect immunofluorescent test to detect antibodies against Bartonella sp. and by PCR to detect the ***: Fifty-four(58.69%; 95% CI: 47.95%–68.87%) animals, 9 donkeys and 45 horses, were seropositive with antibody titers ranging from 1:64 to 1:512. PCR assays detected 9 horses positive for Bartonella sp. and 3 donkeys for Bartonella henselae genotype ***: The detected sero-prevalence suggests a common and frequent exposure of equids living in Central Italy to bartonellae and PCR results show that Bartonella *** is possible both in horses and donkeys. At the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of Bartonella henselae infection in donkeys.

This study explores the essential issues pertaining to a landscape bridge based on a multi-scale methodology,in view of the paucity of design theories for contemporary landscape *** contribute to reinterpret landscape bridges on their physical temporal-spatial scales,instead of from perspectives of individual disciplines or their mechanical *** in a new systematized framework,we elaborate the dominant and their opposite counterparts of landscape bridges from a binary deconstruction point of view,i.e.,(1)Development and retrogression on the temporal scale,(2)connection and separation on the spatial topographic scale,(3)skyphilia and topophilia on the spatial landscape scale,and(4)extroversion and introversion on the spatial architectural *** deconstructed multifaceted scales are instrumental in understanding landscape bridges from various perspectives,with a pyramid model proposed afterward to mediate the discovered oppositions and stimulate the cross-scale *** possible design paths could be derived from this well-organized and openminded multiple system,which is initially expected in this study to inspire bridge designers with dissimilar backgrounds and calls for a wider ramification.

Phase Contrast Micro-Computed Tomography of Biological Sample at SSRF

In line X-ray phase contrast micro-computed tomography （IL-XPCT）, which can be implemented at third generation synchrotron radiation sources or by using a micro-focus X-ray tube, is a powerful technique for non-destructive, high-resolution investigations of a broad variety of materials. At the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility （SSRF）, the X-ray Imaging and Biomedical Applications Beamline was built and started regular user operation in May 2009. Both qualitative （without phase retrieval） and quantitative （with phase retrieval） three-dimensional IL-XPCT experimental techniques have been established at the beamline IL-XPCT experiments of a test sample （plastic pipes） used to evaluate the technique, and of a biological sample （locust） at the beamline are reported. Two series of images, qualitative and quantitative, including tomographic slices and three-dimensional rendering images were obtained. In qualitative images, there is a strong edge-enhancement which leads to very clear sample contours, while in quantitative images, the edge-enhancement fades but quantitative measurement of sample＇s phase information could be achieved. The experiments demonstrate that the combination of qualitative and quantitative images is useful for biological sample studies.
