Malaria is a majo. health pro.lem in Nigeria that has as high as 25% o. all glo.al cases, and 30% o. deaths attributable to.malaria. In 2010, Wo.ld Health o.ganizatio. (WHo. reco.mended universal co.firmatio. o. diagno.is o. malaria thro.gh blo.d parasito.o.ical test, prio. to.initiatio. o. treatment. In additio. to.Micro.co.y, Malaria Rapid diagno.tic Tests (mRDTs) are blo.d tests fo. malaria. Early diagno.is o. malaria ensures that the co.rect treatment is co.menced in go.d time, and this subsequently impro.es the pro.no.is. The o.jective o. this study is to.assess the use o. mRDTs amo.g medical do.to.s wo.king in a tertiary ho.pital, So.theast Nigeria. This study was co.ducted in Enugu State Teaching ho.pital, So.theast Nigeria. The study was o. cro.s-sectio.al design, and co.ducted in o.to.er 2016 amo.g medical do.to.s wo.king in the General o.tpatient, Internal Medicine, and Paediatrics departments o. the Teaching ho.pital. Statistical Package fo. So.ial Sciences (SPSS) versio. 20.0 was used fo. data analysis. A to.al o. 86 medical do.to.s, o.t o. the eligible 91 in the three departments participated in the study, and were distributed as fo.lo.s;24 (27.9%) in the General o.tpatient, 30 (34.9%) in the Internal Medicine, and 32 (37.2%) in the Paediatrics departments. Mo.e medical do.to.s in the Paediatrics department (31.3%) used mRDTs in making diagno.is o. malaria, fo.lo.ed by Internal medicine (13.3%), then General o.tpatient Department (8.3%). Malaria rapid diagno.tic tests are co.t-effective, and useful to.ls in malaria co.tro. and eliminatio. pro.rammes. If tangible pro.ress o. the implementatio. o. the WHo.guidelines o. co.firming diagno.is o. malaria befo.e treatment;and the T3: Test, Treat, Track initiative is to.be made;then the go.ernment and the Management o. ho.pitals o.ght to.take mo.e determined effo.ts aimed at educating and info.ming health wo.kers, especially medical do.to.s o. the benefits o. mRDTs.

Zika virus is transmitted thro.gh the bite o. infected Aedesa egypti, o. Aedes albo.ictus mo.quito. and re-emerged as a disease o. glo.al public health impo.tance in March/April 2015 in Brazil. The o.jective o. this study is to.assess the fo.mal educatio. related pattern o. awareness, and basic kno.ledge o. Zika virus disease, amo.g wo.en visiting children immunizatio. unit in a tertiary ho.pital, in Nigeria. Study was co.ducted in 2016/2017 with 256 rando.ly selected respo.dents. Semi-structured questio.naire was used in the cro.s-sectio.al study. Findings including 77.8% o. respo.dents with po.tgraduate educatio.al qualificatio. were aware that there is a disease kno.n as Zika Virus Disease (ZVD), 62.0% fo. tertiary educatio. qualificatio., 53.8% fo. seco.dary educatio. level, 20.0% fo. primary educatio. level, while no.e o. the three respo.dents that had no.fo.mal educatio. were aware o. ZVD. The level o. awareness increased with increasing educatio.al qualificatio.. These findings were analyzed using the Likeliho.d Ratio.which was calculated to.be 28.329, with P-value o. o. was the co.mo.est so.rce o. first ZVD info.matio.. o.erall mean percentage kno.ledge level o. the different educatio.al gro.ps revealed as fo.lo.ed;no.fo.mal educatio. 22.2%, primary level 12.0%, seco.dary level 46.1%, tertiary level 54.4%, and po.tgraduate level was 51.5%. The mean fo. the stated sco.es was 37.2%. Students’ T-Test at 95.0% co.fidence interval was 0.012, sho.ing that the difference in the mean percentage sco.es between the gro.ps was significant. Respo.dents with tertiary and po.tgraduate educatio. qualificatio.s reco.ded o.erall mean sco.e abo.e 50.0% each, while seco.dary, primary, and no.fo.mal educatio. gro.ps reco.ded o.erall mean percentage sco.es belo. 50.0%. Patients’ satisfactio. with waiting time and the facilities in eye clinics is an impo.tant indicatio. o. the patients’ assessment o. the quality o. service in the eye clinic. In this study, waiting time was defined as time spent fro. arrival to.time when the patient is seen by a do.to.. So.e facto.s that affect patients’ waiting time in health clinics include: healthcare setting, availability o. adequate reso.rces and perso.nel, efficient deplo.ment o. available reso.rces and co.petence o. healthcare wo.kers, and punctuality o. healthcare wo.kers. The physical enviro.ment, co.fo.t o. patients, and level o. infrastructure in the ho.pital also.influence patients’ satisfactio.. This o.servatio.al, descriptive, cro.s-sectio.al study was co.ducted amo.g patients that attended an eye care clinic, in a tertiary ho.pital, and 348 respo.dents were interviewed. Mo.t o. the respo.dents were aged 40 years and abo.e (64.4%), females (63.5%), Igbo. by tribe (94.8%), married (63.2%), Christians (96.6%), and had at least a seco.dary level o. educatio. (78.4%). Mo.t perceived waiting time as being very lo.g o. lo.g (60.1%), and o.ly 48.8 were satisfied o. very satisfied with the waiting time. Mo.t also.perceived the cleanliness o. the eye clinic as being clean o. very clean (85.0%), and 70.7% perceived the ventilatio. as being adequate o. very adequate. The majo.ity repo.ted that a health talk was given (71.6%), and 62.7% were satisfied o. very satisfied with the talk. Mo.e respo.dents (46.8%) perceived the waiting space as very inadequate o. inadequate, as against 43.4% that perceived it as adequate o. very adequate. Mo.e repo.ted that prescribed drugs were co.pletely unavailable o. few available (48.0%), while 42.3% repo.ted drugs as being reaso.ably o. co.pletely available. It is impo.tant that management o. health facilities that o.fer eye care services, wo.k to.ards impro.ing patients’ perceptio. and satisfactio. with services pro.ided in the eye clinics.

Zika virus disease is a disease o. public health impo.tance and was declared a “Public Health Emergency o. Internatio.al Co.cern”, by the Wo.ld Health o.ganizatio. o. February 1, 2016. It is mo.tly transmitted thro.gh the bite o. Aedes aegypti and Aedes albo.ictus mo.quito.. Transmissio. can also.o.cur thro.gh blo.d transfusio. and sexual interco.rse. It co.ld cause micro.ephaly and o.her neuro.o.ical pro.lems in newbo.ns and adults, such as Guillain-Barre syndro.e. It co.ld also.lead to.abo.tio. and stillbirth in pregnant wo.en. Preventio. metho.s are essentially targeted at transmissio. ro.tes, which are mo.quito.bite, sexual interco.rse, and blo.d transfusio.. The study was o. o.servatio.al, descriptive, cro.s-sectio.al design, and co.ducted in a tertiary health institutio. in the So.theast geo.o.itical zo.e o. Nigeria. Two.hundred and fifty-six female caregivers participated in the study, with mo.t o. them being within the childbearing age gro.p, and educated up to.tertiary level. The o.jective was to.assess the kno.ledge o. Zika virus infectio. preventio. metho.s, amo.g female caregivers that bring babies fo. immunizatio. in a Teaching Ho.pital, So.theast Nigeria. o.t o. the eight questio.s that so.ght to.assess the kno.ledge level o. the respo.dents, they sco.ed 50% and abo.e o.ly in three, which were o. preventio. thro.gh pro.ectio. against mo.quito.bite (60.5%), avo.ding unnecessary blo.d transfusio. in endemic areas (53.9%), and avo.dance o. o.ly meals no. being a preventive measure (51.2%). Respo.dents in the childbearing age gro.p, and tho.e with higher educatio.al qualificatio.s, generally exhibited higher kno.ledge level than the o.her respo.dents. Malaria co.mo.ly causes fever in tro.ical Africa. In 2010, Wo.ld Health o.ganizatio. reco.mended parasito.o.ical diagno.is o. malaria befo.e treatment. Rapid Diagno.tic Test (RDT) aims at making malaria diagno.is mo.e accessible. The o.jective o. this study was to.assess kno.ledge, and perceptio. o. malaria rapid diagno.tic test (mRDT), amo.g do.to.s in a tertiary health facility. A descriptive, cro.s sectio.al study, co.ducted in o.to.er 2016, in a state University Teaching ho.pital, Enugu state, Nigeria. 86 do.to.s in the General o.tpatient, Internal Medicine, and Paediatrics departments participated. 90.7% o. respo.dents knew parasito.o.ical examinatio. o. blo.d is the certain metho. o. making malaria diagno.is, 89.5% knew micro.co.y and RDT are metho.s fo. parasito.o.ical diagno.is, 91.9% knew mRDT is quick blo.d test fo. malaria, 54.7% knew mRDT is usually specific fo. o.e o. mo.e species o. malaria, 46.5% knew mRDT detects circulating malaria parasite antigen, 29.1% knew mRDT is read 15 to.20 minutes after the test, 70.9% knew mRDT is no. superio. to.micro.co.y, 79.1% knew mRDT is no. 100% specific, 80.2% knew mRDT o.ght no. be do.e always by Labo.ato.y Scientists, and 66.3% knew mo.e than o.e type o. mRDT kit is available. o. perceptio., 64.0% tho.ght it was impo.tant to.co.firm diagno.is befo.e co.mencing treatment, 90.7% perceived mRDT as being very useful, 96.5% did no. perceive mRDT as endangering patients, 70.9% o.inio.ed that presumptive diagno.is o. malaria is no. a better way o. making diagno.is, 76.7% did no. believe malaria diagno.is is always clear o. listening to.the patient, 90.7% did no. perceive mRDT as being hazardo.s, 83.7% believe using mRDT can reduce the quantity o. anti-malaria drugs co.sumed, and 94.2% o.inio.ed that mRDT sho.ld be enco.raged and pro.o.ed. Training and re-training o. health wo.kers shall greatly enhance mRDT use in implementing the WHo.T3 Initiative, and ultimately eliminating malaria.

Misco.ceptio.s abo.t HIV/AIDS exist mo.tly in develo.ing co.ntries. The research was a cro.s-sectio.al study, co.ducted in Enugu state, Nigeria. o.jective was to.assess key HIV misco.ceptio.s amo.g rural co.munity dwellers. Interviewer administered questio.naire was used, and info.matio. was co.lected fro. 296 respo.dents, mo.t o. who. were abo.e 50 years o. age, married, had no.fo.mal educatio., and were farmers. Co.rect respo.ses to.the misco.ceptio.s investigated were: HIV infectio. fo.nd o.ly amo.g sinners (29.7%);HIV can be transmitted by eating fro. the same plate with an infected perso. (24.7%);HIV can be transmitted thro.gh handshake (29.7%);HIV can be transmitted by to.ching the urine o. faeces o. an infected perso. (24.0%);HIV can be transmitted by hugging o. to.ching an infected perso. (28.0%);HIV can be cured (19.9%);Praying daily can prevent HIV infectio. (20.3%);and Wo.shipping o.r ancesto.s can prevent HIV infectio. (27.0%). Inhabitants o. rural co.munities are mo.e likely to.ho.d misco.ceptio.s abo.t HIV. It is reco.mended that relevant go.ernments in develo.ing co.ntries design interventio.s aimed at addressing misco.ceptio.s abo.t HIV/AIDS.
