In present,there are increasing interests in the research on mechanical and control system of underwater *** ongoing research efforts are motivated by more pervasive applications of such vehicles including seabed oil and gas explorations, scientific deep ocean surveys,military purposes,ecological and water environmental studies,and also entertainments. However,the performance of underwater vehicles with screw type propellers is not prospective in terms of its efficiency and *** main weaknesses of this kind of propellers are the production of vortices and sudden generation of thrust forces which make the control of the position and motion difficult. On the other hand,fishes and other aquatic animals are efficient swimmers,posses high maneuverability,are able to follow trajectories,can efficiently stabilize themselves in currents and surges,create less wakes than currently used underwater vehicle, and also have a noiseless *** fish's locomotion mechanism is mainly controlled by its caudal fin and paired pectoral *** are classified into Body and/or Caudal Fin(BCF)and Median and/or paired Pectoral Fins(MPF).The study of highly efficient swimming mechanisms of fish can inspire a better underwater vehicles thruster design and its mechanism. There are few studies on underwater vehicles or fish robots using paired pectoral fins as *** work presented in this paper represents a contribution in this area covering study,design and implementation of locomotion mechanisms of paired pectoral fins in a fish *** performance and viability of the biomimetic method for underwater vehicles are highlighted through in-water experiment of a robotic fish.

Two field observations were conducted around the Lembeh Strait in September 2015 and 2016, *** indicate that seawater around the Lembeh Strait is consisted of North Pacific Tropical Water(NPTW),North Pacific Intermediate Water(NPIW), North Pacific Tropical Intermediate Water(NPTIW) and Antarctic Intermediate Water(AAIW). Around the Lembeh Strait, there exist some north-south differences in terms of water mass properties. NPTIW is only found in the southern Lembeh Strait. Water mass with the salinity of 34.6 is only detected at 200–240 m between NPTW and NPTIW in the southern Lembeh Strait, and results from the process of mixing between the saltier water transported from the South Pacific Ocean and the lighter water from the North Pacific Ocean and Sulawesi Sea. According to the analysis on mixing layer depth, it is indicated that there exists an onshore surface current in the northern Lembeh Strait and the surface current in the Lembeh Strait is *** dramatic differences of water masses demonstrate that the less water exchange has been occurred between the north and south of Lembeh Strait. In 2015, the positive wind stress curl covering the northern Lembeh Strait induces the shoaling of thermocline and deepening of NPIW, which show that the north-south difference of airsea system is possible of inducing north-south differences of seawater properties.

This paper focuses on the study of the effect of modification of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch(OPEFB)and sugarcane bagasse(SCB)biomass as potential reinforcement for composites panel and thermal *** fibres were treated with three types of chemicals:2%silane,4%H2O2 and 4%H2O2-2%silane for 3 *** influence of modified fibres content in composites was examined by structural changes using image analyser,Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),tensile,interracial shear strength(IFSS)and thermal *** diameter of both fibres was reduced after treatment and showed decreasing of lignin and hemi-cellulose in *** strength has been increased by 2%silane treatment for both fibres and 4%H2O2 treatment displays higher result for *** properties of treated SCB fibre with silane display higher residual content and better thermal *** charac-terization showed that 2%silane treatment removed silica bodies of OPEFB fibre while 4%H2O2 treatment uniformly filled porosity of SCB ***,results revealed that treated OPEFB fibre is enough to improve compatibility and mechanical properties,while treated SCB fibre was effective in thermal stability for fabrication of composite materials.

This paper presents the design of decentralized repetitive control （RC） for multi-input multi-output （MIMO） systems. An optimization method is used to obtain a RC compensator that ensures system stability and good tracking performance. The designed compensator is in the form of a stable, low order, and causal filter, in which the compensator can be implemented separately without being merged with the RC internal model. This will reduce complexity in the implementation. Simulation results and comparison study are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design. The novelty of design is also verified in experiments on a 2 degrees of freedom （DOF） robot.

Analysis of Turbulence and Surface Growth Models on the Estimation of Soot Level in Ethylene Non-Premixed Flames

Soot prediction in a combustion system has become a subject of attention, as many factors influence its accuracy. An accurate temperature prediction will likely yield better soot predictions, since the inception, growth and de- struction of the soot are affected by the temperature. This paper reported the study on the influences of turbulence closure and surface growth models on the prediction of soot levels in turbulent flames. The results demonstrated that a substantial distinction was observed in terms of temperature predictions derived using the k-c and the Rey- nolds stress models, for the two ethylene flames studied here amongst the four types of surface growth rate model investigated, the assumption of the soot surface growth rate proportional to the particle number density, but inde- pendent on the surface area of soot particles,f（As） = pNs, yields in closest agreement with the radial data. Without any adjustment to the constants in the surface growth term, other approaches where the surface growth directly proportional to the surface area and square root of surface area, f （As） = As and f （A,） = √As, result in an un- der-prediction of soot volume fraction. These results suggest that predictions of soot volume fraction are sensitive to the modelling of surface growth.

Comparison of three processing methods for laminated bamboo timber production

Three processing techniques, split-squaring(SS),V-grooving(VG), and split-edging(SE), were evaluated and compared in terms of their processing time and recovery. Semantan bamboo(Gigantochloa scortechinii Gamble) was used as a raw material and the results showed that the VG-method required the longest processing time(32.1 min), followed by the SS-method(18.2 min), and the SE-method(17.9 min). However, the VG-method showed the highest recovery(82.0%) compared to the SS-method and SE-method, 31.0 and 49.4%, respectively. When both processing time and recovery factors were combined with the same weighing factor, the highest value was recorded with the VG-method(49.1), while the SE-method had values of 31.1 and the SS-method 12.8. The results suggest that the VG-method is the best option. However, the V-grooving machine is still a prototype and therefore the SE-method could be an alternative option until the improved V-grooving machine is available.

The behavioral responses of virgin and mated female Anastrepha striata Schiner （Diptera： Tephritidae） to guava （Psidium guajava L.） or sweet orange （Citrus sinensis L.） were evaluated separately using multilure traps in two-choice tests in field cages. The results showed that flies were more attracted to guava and sweet orange volatiles than to control （unbaited trap）. The physiological state （virgin or mated） of females did not affect their attraction to the fruit volatiles. Combined analysis of gas chromatography coupled with electroantennography （GC-EAD） of volatile extracts of both fruits showed that 1 and 6 compounds from orange and guava, respectively elicited repeatable antennal responses from mated females. The EAD active compounds in guava volatile extracts were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS） as ethyl butyrate, （Z）-3-hexenol, hexanol, ethyl hexanoate, hexyl acetate, and ethyl octanoate. Linalool was identified as the only antennal active compound in sweet orange extracts. In field cage tests, there were no significant differences between the number of mated flies captured by the traps baited with guava extracts and the number caught by traps baited with the 6-component blend that was formulated according to the relative proportions in the guava extracts. Similar results occurred when synthetic linalool was evaluated against orange extracts. From a practical point of view, the compounds identified in this study could be used for monitoring A. striata populations.
