Mercury levels in human population from a mining district in Western Colombia

A biomonitoring study was carried out to examine the adverse impacts of total mercury in the blood（HgB）, urine（Hg U） and human scalp hair（HgH） on the residents of a mining district in Colombia. Representative biological samples（scalp hair, urine and blood） were collected from volunteered participants（n = 63） to estimate the exposure levels of THg using a Direct mercury analyzer. The geometric mean of THg concentrations in the hair,urine and blood of males were 15.98 μg/g, 23.89 μg/L and 11.29 μg/L respectively, whereas the females presented values of 8.55 μg/g, 5.37 μg/L and 8.80 μg/L. Chronic urinary Hg（HgU）levels observed in male workers（32.53 μg/L） are attributed to their long termed exposures to inorganic and metallic mercury from gold panning activities. On an average, the levels of THg are increasing from blood（10.05 μg/L） to hair（12.27 μg/g） to urine（14.63 μg/L）.significant positive correlation was found between hair and blood urinary levels in both male and female individuals. Thus the present biomonitoring investigation to evaluate the Hg levels and associated health issues would positively form a framework for further developmental plans and policies in building an ecofriendly ecosystem.

Piwi-interacting RNAs(piRNAs of 26-32 nt in length)regulate gene expression,epigenetics,and transcriptional and post-transcriptional processes.1 In humans,piRNAs are expressed in germline and somatic tissues,and generally have a uracil at the 5'-end(position+1),an adenine at the+10 position,and are 2'-0 methylated at the 3'-end.2 Onice piRNAs form the RNA-induced silencing complex(RIsC)with PIWl proteins,they serve as guides to find their complementary sequences of the target mRNA,thus initiating their *** Wuhan patient's genome is approximately 265 nucleotides(nts)in its 3'-UTR;piRNAs-like sequences have been reported in this region.3 Our objective was to search,through bioinformatics,for mRNA sequences that were homologous to the reverse complementary of the previously reported piRNA-like sequences from the 3'-UTR of sARs-Cov-2,3 and identify the possible interaction between them.

We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity *** data were obtained from several herbaria and specialized *** grid-cells appear to be important for fern species richness, as they contain 35 to 49 *** gridcells are located in the sierra Madre Oriental(sMO),Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt(TMVB) and the sierra Madre del sur(sMs).Mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TMVB and sMs.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as important from theperspective of endemism; most of them are located also in the sMO, TMVB and *** richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern part of the sMO, the eastern portion of the TMVB and the northern part of the sMs, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slopes facing the Gulf of *** important grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with Mexican Natural Protected *** beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, implying a high species replacement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the Mexican mountain *** the other hand, the spatial analysis suggested a pattern of phytogeographical regionalization comprising twomain areas: the Mexican Transition Zone and the Mexican Central *** play an important role in the Mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of Mexico.

Envita’s Precision Cancer Care: 35-Fold Improvement in Response Rates

New clinical approaches are imperative beyond the widely adopted National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, utilized by prominent cancer institutions. Cancer is the leading cause of death among individuals younger than 85 years within the United states. Despite significant technological advances, including the expenditure of hundreds of billions, treatment outcomes and overall survival have not notably improved for most types of advanced cancer over the last several decades. Over the past 24 years, Envita Medical Centers has pioneered a unique form of personalized treatment approach for late-stage and refractory cancer patients, introducing groundbreaking innovations in the field. Our integrated algorithm utilizes advanced genomics, transcriptomics, and highly tailored immunotherapy, resulting in remarkable outcome improvements. This study presents Envita’s innovative personalized treatment algorithms and examines the response outcomes of 199 late-stage cancer patients treated at Envita Medical Centers over a two-year period. Compared to standard of care and palliative chemotherapy, Envita’s treatment demonstrated a remarkable 35-fold improvement in overall response rates (Figure 1). Moreover, 88% of the patients, the majority presenting with stage 3 or 4 cancer, experienced a 43-fold improvement in quality of life with minimal side effects, as compared to standard of care chemotherapy and palliative care. This revolutionary success is attributed to Envita’s personalized therapeutic algorithms, which incorporate customized immunotherapy. Envita’s precision care approach has also achieved a 100% better response rate compared to over 65 global chemotherapy clinical trials with more than 2700 patients. The results from this study suggest that a wider utilization of Envita’s personalized approach can significantly benefit patients with late-stage and refractory cancer.

Aminoguanidine impedes human pancreatic tumor growth and metastasis development in nude mice

AIM:To study the action of aminoguanidine on pancreatic cancer xenografts in relation to cell proliferation,apoptosis,redox status and ***:Xenografts of PANC-1 cells were developed in nude mice. The animals were separated into two groups:control and aminoguanidine treated. Tumor growth,survival and appearance of metastases were determined in vivo in both groups. Tumors were excised and ex vivo histochemical studies were performed. Cell growth was assessed by Ki-67 expression. Apoptosis was studied by intratumoral expression of B cell lymphoma-2 protein (Bcl-2) family proteins and Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase biotin-dUTP Nick End Labeling (Tunel). Redox status was evaluated by the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOs),catalase,copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnsOD),manganese superoxide dismutase (MnsOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Finally,vascularization was determined by Massons trichromic staining,and by VEGF and CD34 ***:Tumor volumes after 32 d of treatment by aminoguanidine (AG) were significantly lower than in control mice (P survival of AG mice was significantly greater than control animals (P stases was significantly delayed in AG group. Cholangiocyte anion exchange and biliary bicarbonate excretion

Primary canalicular bile undergoes a process of fluidization and alkalinization along the biliary tract that is influenced by several factors including hormones, innervation/neuropeptides, and biliary constituents. The excretion of bicarbonate at both the canaliculi and the bile ducts is an important contributor to the generation of the so-called bile-salt independent flow. Bicarbonate is secreted from hepatocytes and cholangiocytes through parallel mechanisms which involve chloride efflux through activation of Cl- channels, and further bicarbonate secretion via AE2/sLC4A2-mediated Cl-/HCO3- exchange. Glucagon and secretin are two relevant hormones which seem to act very similarly in their target cells （hepatocytes for the former and cholangiocytes for the latter）. These hormones interact with their specific G protein-coupled receptors, causing increases in intracellular levels of cAMP and activation of cAMP-dependent Cl- and HCO3- secretory mechanisms. Both hepatocytes and cholangiocytes appear to have cAMP-responsive intracellular vesicles in which AE2/sLC4A2 colocalizes with cell specific Cl- channels （CFTR in cholangiocytes and not yet determined in hepatocytes） and aquaporins （AQP8 in hepatocytes and AQP1 in cholangiocytes）, cAMP-induced coordinated trafficking of these vesicles to either canalicular or cholangiocyte lumenal membranes and further exocytosis results in increased osmotic forces and passive movement of water with net bicarbonate-rich hydrocholeresis.

Investigation of Combustion of Emulated Biogas in a Gas Turbine Test Rig

Combustion of biogas in gas turbines is an interesting option for provision of renewable combined heat and power from biomass. Due to an increasing share of fluctuating renewable energies in the power grid(especially from wind and solar power), flexible power generation is of increasing importance. Additionally, with an increasing share of agricultural and municipal waste in biogas production, biogas composition is expected to be within a broader range. In this paper, the combustion of synthetic biogas(carbon dioxide and methane) in a combustion test rig with a swirl burner and a high pressure optical chamber is researched at different conditions. Results are compared to a CHEMKIN-PRO simulation using a detailed reaction mechanism. The results show that within the researched experimental matrix, stable biogas combustion for gas turbines can be achieved even with significantly changing gas composition and nominal power. Carbon dioxide concentration is varied from 0 to 60%. CO concentrations(normalized to 15% O_2) in the flue gas do not change significantly with increasing carbon dioxide in the fuel gas and, for the researched conditions, stayed below 10 ppm. NO_x concentration is below 10 ppm(normalized to 15% O_2) for pure methane, and is further decreasing with increasing carbon dioxide share in the fuel gas, which is mainly due to changing reaction paths as reaction analysis showed. Thermal load of the combustor is varied from 100% to 20% for the reference gas composition. With decreasing thermal load, normalized carbon monoxide flue gas concentration is further reduced, while NOx concentrations are remaining at a similar level around 5 ppm(normalized to 15% O_2).
