Legume Green Manure and Intercropping for High Biomass Sorghum Production

Before the advent of cheap, synthetic fertilizers, legumes were commonly used as green manure crops for their ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX examined legume integration into high-biomass sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) production systems on a Lilbert loamy fine sand recently cultivated after a fertilized bermudagrass [cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] pasture. In this split-split plot design, ‘Dixie’ crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) and ‘Iron and clay’ cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) were integrated into a high-biomass sorghum production system to evaluate impacts on N concentration, c concentration, and yield of high-biomass sorghum and their impacts on soil total N and soil organic carbon (SOc). Main plots were split into crimson clover green manure (cLGM) and winter fallow (FALL) followed by three sub-plots split into warm-season crop rotations: cowpea green manure (cPGM), cowpea-sorghum intercrop (cPSR), and sorghum monocrop (SORG). Three N fertilizer treatments (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were randomized and applied as sub-sub plots. The cLGM increased (P sorghum biomass yield (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the first two years. The cPSR treatment reduced sorghum yield up to 62% compared to SORG;whereas cPGM increased sorghum yield 56% and 18% the two years following cowpea incorporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effect on sorghum biomass yield. Decrease in SOc and soil N over time indicated mineralization of organic N and may explain why no N fertilizer response was observed in sorghum biomass yield. cowpea showed strong potential as a green manure crop but proved to be too competitive for successful intercropping in high-biomass sorghum production systems.

In this study,we implemented the type Ⅱ seesaw mechanism into the framework of the U(l)B-L gauge *** achieve this,we added a scalar triplet,A,to the canonical particle content of the U(l)B-Lgauge *** imposing that the U(l)B-L gauge symmetry be spontaneously broken at TeV scale,we show that the type Ⅱ seesaw mechanism is realized at an intermediate energy scale,more precisely,at approximately 109 *** prevent heavy right-handed neutrinos from disturbing the mechanism,we evoke a Z2 discrete ***,as a result,we have standard neutrinos with mass around eV scale and right-handed neutrinos with mass in TeV scale,with the lightest one fulfilling the condition of dark *** developed all of these in this *** addition,we show that the neutral component of Δ may perform unproblematic non-minimal inflation with loss of unitarity.

A cloud-ocean planetary boundary layer (OPBL) feedback mechanism is presented and tested in this paper. Water vapor, evaporated from the ocean surface or transported by the large-scale air flow, often forms convective clouds under a conditionally unstable lapse rate. The variable cloud cover and rainfall may have positive and negative feedback with the ocean mixed layer temperature and salinity structure. The coupling of the simplified Kuo's (1965) cumulus cloud model to the Kraus-Turner's (1967) ocean mixed layer model shows the existence of this feedback mechanism. The theory also predicts the generation of low frequency oscillation in the atmosphere and oceans.

We assessed the rates of sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes, including the neonatal profile of infants conceived, in men with testicular failure. Three-hundred and sixty-five men with testicular failure who underwent micro-dissection testicular sperm extraction were included in this study. We compared their outcomes with 40 men with testicular failure who used donor sperm for injections due to failed retrieval, and 146 men with obstructive azoospermia who underwent percutaneous sperm retrieval. The retrieval rate in testicular failure was 41.4%, and the results were lower than the obstructed azoospermia （100%; adjusted odds ratio： 0.033; 95% ch 0.007-0.164; P 〈 0.001）. Live birth rates after sperm injections were lower in men with testicular failure （19.9%） compared with donor sperm （37.5%; adjusted OR： 0.377 （95% ch 0.233-0.609, P 〈 0.001）） and obstructive azoospermia （34.2%; adjusted OR： 0.403 （95% cI： 0.241-0.676, P= 0.001）. Newborn parameters of infants conceived were not significantly different among the groups. We concluded that the chances of obtaining sperm on retrieval and achieving a live birth after intracytoplasmic sperm injection （IcSI） are reduced in men with testicular failure. The profile of infants conceived after sperm injection does not seem to be negatively affected by testicular failure.

This paper deals with a reinforced cumulative probability distribution approach (cPDA) based method for extracting classification *** method includes two phases:(1) automatic generation of the membership function,and (2) use of the corresponding linguistic data to extract classification *** proposed method can determine suitable interval boundaries for any given dataset based on its own characteristics,and generate the fuzzy membership functions *** results show that the proposed method surpasses traditional methods in accuracy.

This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of six stem taper models on four tropical tree species, namely celtis luzonica(Magabuyo),Diplodiscus paniculatus(Balobo), Parashorea malaanonan(Bagtikan), and Swietenia macrophylla(Mahogany) in Mount Makiling Forest Reserve(MMFR), Philippines using fit statistics and lack-of-fit statistics. Four statistical criteria were used in this study, including the standard error of estimate(SEE),coefficient of determination(R^2), mean bias( E),and absolute mean difference(AMD). For the lack-offit statistics, SEE, E and AMD were determined in different relative height classes. The results indicated that the Kozak02 stem taper model offered the best fit for the four tropical species in most statistics. The Kozak02 model also consistently provided the best performance in the lack-of-fit statistics with the best SEE, E and AMD in most of the relative height classes. These stem taper equations could help forest managers and researchers better estimate the diameter of the outside bark with any given height,merchantable stem volumes and total stem volumes of standing trees belonging to the four species of thetropical forest in MMFR.

Electron cyclotron emission imaging（EcEI） can provide measurements of 2D electron temperature fluctuation with high temporal and spatial resolution in magnetic fusion plasma devices. Two EcEI systems located in different toroidal ports with 67.5 degree separation have been implemented on J-TEXT to study the 3D structure of magnetohydrodynamic（MHD） instabilities. Each system consists of 12（vertical） × 16（horizontal） = 192 channels and the image of the 2nd harmonic X-mode electron cyclotron emission can be captured continuously in the core plasma region. The field curvature adjustment lens concept is developed to control the imaging plane for receiving optics of the EcEI systems. Field curvature of the image can be controlled to match the emission layer. consequently, a quasi-3D image of the MHD instability in the core of the plasma has been achieved.

cu–Zn–Sn shape memory alloys(SMAs)with an average composition of 56.0 at%,36.1 at%,and 7.9 at%for cu,Zn,and Sn,respectively,were successfully fabricated via an electrodeposition–annealing *** produced SMAs were assessed for shape memory response in terms of percent displacement(martensite phase recovery)by subjecting the ternary alloys to flame tests and subsequently characterizing them via differential scanning calorimetry(DSc),optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy in conjunction with energy-dispersive spectroscopy(SEM-EDS),and X-ray diffraction(XRD)*** flame tests showed that the highest displacement was ca.93%,with average austenite and martensitic start transformation temperature of 225°c and 222°c,*** analysis revealed that the intermetallic phases responsible for the observed shape memory properties have substitutional Zn in the lattice occupied by cu and Sn,leading to the formation of cu(Zn,Sn)and cu6(Zn,Sn)5 *** formation of these variants was attributed to the faster interdiffusion of cu into Sn,driven by an activation energy of 34.82 kJ·mol^-*** cycles of repeated torching–annealing revealed an essentially constant shape memory response,suggesting that the fabricated SMAs were consistent and sufficiently reliable for their intended service application.
