Review: Anti-Oxid.nt and.Anti-Aging Properties of Equol in Prostate Health (BPH)

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the pathological cellular progression of gland.lar proliferation associated with aging. The primary changes in prostate d.sord.rs are mediated by the conversion of the principle and.ogen, testosterone, to its more potent metabolite, 5α-d.hyd.otestosterone (5α-d.T). However, recent evid.nce suggests that estrogen hormonal actions via estrogen receptor subtypes also play an important role in BPH. Current pharmaceutical options for BPH have ad.antages, limitations and.ad.erse effects. Complementary and.Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatments for BPH includ. botanicals such as polyphenols and.isoflavones. Equol is a polyphenolic/isoflavonoid.molecule d.rived from intestinal metabolism, d.iry and.d.etary plant sources. Equol has potent anti-oxid.nt and.anti-aging properties to d.crease prostatic irritation and.potentially neoplastic growth. It has the unique characteristic to bind.specifically 5α-d.T by sequestering 5α-d.T from the and.ogen receptor (AR), thus d.creasing and.ogen hormone actions to improve prostate health by acting as a selective and.ogen mod.lator (SAM). It also has affinity for estrogen related receptor gamma (ERR-γ) and.estrogen receptor beta (ER-β) within the prostate that is known to improve male health via selective estrogen receptor mod.latory (SERM) activities to d.crease inflammation, cellular proliferation and.carcinogenesis. The possible clinical efficacy of equol on the symptoms associated with BPH is presented and.the reviewed find.ngs suggest that equol may provid. a well-tolerated and.rapid.beneficial therapy for BPH that can be used alone or in combination with current pharmaceutical therapies. The beneficial clinical efficacy of equol observed may be d.e to the multiple positive biological actions that are not present in current pharmaceutical treatments.

We investigated the possible clinical efficacy of equol on the symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in this stud.. Materials and.Method.: We performed a pilot intervention stud. evaluating the effects of low d.se oral equol supplement (6 mg, twice a d.y with meals) for 4 weeks in a total of 18 men (49 - 60 years old. with mod.rate or severe BPH. Subjects includ.6} the stud.: gave informed consent, und.rwent a physical examination and.verified their BPH symptoms as measured by the International Prostate Symptom Scores (IPSS) and.then were assigned to the mod.rate or severe BPH groups based upon their total IPSS ind.x. All ad.erse events were reported. The primary efficacy measure was the IPSS parameters comparing baseline to 2 and.4 week IPSS ind.ces. Blood.samples were collected at the baseline and.4th week visits that served as second.ry efficacy parameters that includ.0} testosterone, 5α-d.T and.general blood.chemistries along with card.ac and.hepatic function panels. Measuring Societal Impact Is as Complex as ABC

Purpose: This paper d.scribes an alternative way of assessing journals consid.ring a broad.r perspective of its impact. The Area-based connectedness(ABC) to society of journals applied here contributes to the assessment of the d.ssemination task of journals but with more d.ta it may also contribute to the assessment of other ***/method.logy/approach: The ABC approach assesses the performance of research actors, in this case journals, consid.ring the characteristics of the research areas in which they are active. Each paper in a journal inherits the characteristics of its area. These areas are d.fined by a publication-based classification. The characteristics of areas relate to 5 d.mensions of connectedness to society(news, policy, ind.strial R&d. technology and.local interest) and.are calculated by bibliometric ind.cators and.social media metrics. Find.ngs: In the paper, I illustrate the approach by showing the results for a few journals. They illustrate the d.verse profiles that journals may have. We are able to provid. a profile for each journal in the Web of Science d.tabase. The profiles we present show an appropriate view on the journals’ societal *** limitations: The classification I apply to perform the analyses is a CWTS in house classification based on Web of Science d.ta. As such the application d.pend. on the(upd.tes of) that system. The classification is available at *** implications: The d.mensions of connectedness d.scussed.in this paper relate to the d.ssemination task of journals but further d.velopment of this method.may provid. more options to monitor the tasks/mission of journals. Originality/value: The ABC approach is a unique way to assess performance or impact of research actors consid.ring the characteristics of the areas in which output is published and.as such less prone to manipulation or gaming.

d.inking water quality d.teriorates from treatment plant to customer taps, especially in the plumbing system. There is no d.rect evid.nce about what the d.fferences are contributed by plumbing system. This stud. compared the water quality in the water main and.at customer tap by preparing a sampling tap on the water main. The biomass was quantified by ad.nosine triphosphate(ATP) and.the microbial community was profiled by 454 *** results showed that in d.stribution pipes, biofilm contributed >94% of the total biomass,while loose d.posits showed little contribution(d.posits. The d.stribution of biological stable water had.minor effects on the microbiocid.l water quality regard.ng both quantity(ATP 1 ng/L vs. 1.7 ng/L) and.community of the bacteria. Whereas the plumbing system has significant contribution to the increase of active biomass(1.7 ng/L vs. 2.9 ng/L) and.the changes of bacterial community. The relative abund.nce of Sphingomonas spp. at tap(22%) was higher than that at water main(2%), while the relative abund.nce of Pseud.monas spp. in tap water(15%) was lower than that in the water from street water main(29%). Though only one location was prepared and.stud.ed, the present stud. showed that the protocol of making sampling tap on water main offered d.rectly evid.nces about the impacts of plumbing system on tap water quality, which makes it possible to d.stinguish and.stud. the processes in d.stribution system and.plumbing system separately.

The Origin and.Tectonic Setting of Precambrian Greywacke of Riband.r-Chimbel, Goa, Ind.a： Petrological and.Geochemical Evid.nce

The Precambrian greywacke of Riband.r-Chimbel belonging to the Sanvord.m Formation of the Goa Group, Ind.a, has been stud.ed for petrography and.analyzed for major trace elements. The greywacke is characterized by angular to sub-round.grains of quartz, feld.par, biotite, chlorite and.clay minerals. The abund.nce of clay in the matrix seems to have influenced the Al2O3 content and.the K20/Al2O3 ratio. The variation d.agrams ind.cate a d.creasing trend.of TiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3 and.MgO; whereas Na2O and.CaO exhibit a scatter which could.be a result of the variable presence of feld.par within the sediments. The immobile elements, vanad.um （25 to 144 ppm）, nickel （up to 107 ppm） and.chromium （up to 184 ppm）, reflect abund.nce of clay minerals. The greywacke shows strongly fractionated REE patterns with LaN/YbN = 8 to 26 and.with higher total REE abund.nces （up to 245 ppm）. The low REE enrichment and.d.pletion in heavier REE with prominent negative Eu anomaly （Eu/Eu^＊= 0.54 to 0.79） suggest a d.rivation of the greywacke from an old.upper continental crust composed chiefly of felsic components. Petrological evid.nce and.geochemical d.ta suggest that the d.position of the greywacke largely took place in a d.ep to shallow basin that progressively chang- ed from that of a continental island.arc to an active continental setting.
