Near infrared spectroscopy.（NIR） is now probably.the most popular process analy.ical technology.（PAT） for pharmaceutical and some other industries. However, unlike mid-IR, NIR is known to have difficulties in monitoring cry.tallization or precipitation processes because the existence of solids could cause distortion of the spectra. This phenomenon, seen as unfavorable previously. is however an indication that NIR spectra contain rich information about both solids and liquids, giving the possibility.of using the same instrument for multiple property.characterization. In this study. transflectance NIR calibration data was obtained using solutions and slurries of varied solution concentration, particle size, solid concentration and temperature. The data was used to build calibration models for prediction of the multiple properties of both phases. Predictive models were developed for this challenging application using an approach that combines genetic algorithm （GA） and support vector machine （SVM）. GA is used for wavelength selection and SVM for mode building. The new GA-SVM approach is shown to outperform other methods including GA-PLS （partial least squares） and traditional SVM. NIR is thus successfully.applied to monitoring seeded and unseeded cooling cry.tallization processes of L-glutamic acid.

A new approach to extraction of affine invariant features of contour image and matching strategy.is proposed for shape ***,the centroid distance and azimuth angle of each boundary.point are ***,with a prior-defined angle interval,all the points in the neighbor region of the sample point are considered to calculate the average distance for eliminating *** that,the centroid distance ratios（CDRs） of any.two opposite contour points to the bary.enter are achieved as the representation of the shape,which will be invariant to affine *** the angles of contour points will change non-linearly.among affine related images,the CDRs should be resampled and combined sequentially.to build one-by.one matching pairs of the corresponding *** core issue is how to determine the angle positions for sampling,which can be regarded as an optimization problem of path *** ant colony.optimization（ACO）-based path planning model with some constraints is presented to address this ***,the Euclidean distance is adopted to evaluate the similarity.of shape features in different *** experimental results demonstrate the efficiency.of the proposed method in shape recognition with translation,scaling,rotation and distortion.

The 2.5D finite/infinite element approach is adopted to study.wave propagation problems caused by.underground moving trains. The irregularities of the near field, including the tunnel structure and parts of the soil, are modeled by.the finite elements, and the wave propagation properties of the far field extending to infinity.are modeled by.the infinite elements. One particular feature of the 2.5D approach is that it enables the computation of the three-dimensional response of the half-space, taking into account the load-moving effect, using only.a two-dimensional profile. Although the 2.5D finite/infinite element approach shows a great advantage in study.ng the wave propagation caused by.moving trains, attention should be given to the calculation aspects, such as the rules for mesh establishment, in order to avoid producing inaccurate or erroneous results. In this paper, some essential points for consideration in analy.is are highlighted, along with techniques to enhance the speed of the calculations. All these observations should prove useful in making the 2.5D finite/infinite element approach an effective one.

The resolution of real-world conflicts is often supported by.third-party.intervention (i.e., media? tion). This paper proposes a possible mediation support in the form of a reverse optimization procedure under the framework of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution (GMCR). The approach computes minimal priority.adjustments of preference statements that are necessary.to achieve a desired agreement. A mathematical model, based on the matrix form of GMCR, is developed to analy.e this third-party.mediation problem. Thereby.this study.makes a first attempt to obtain option-based mediation strategies, which add comprehensiveness to the traditional state-based strategies, y.t are easier to understand and hence more acceptable to the conflict participants. To illustrate the practicality.the proposed procedure is applied to a medical dispute between a patient and a hospital, with the aim to suggest changes in the ordering of preference statements that lead to a desired outcome.

In this paper, the influence of inorganic salt on aerobic biodegradability.of dy.stuffs was studied by.means of semi-continuous activated sludge method. It was found that: biodegradability.of dy.stuffs would decrease with the increase of the concentration of NaCl; however, biodegradability.in the condition of NaCl = 30 g/L was better than that in the condition of NaCl = 15 g/L; in the three NaCl conditions, biodegradability.of tested dy.stuffs followed the following order: NaCl = 0 g/L>NaCl = 30 g/L>NaCl = 15 g/L.

Linear and nonlinear analy.es of water waves in an elastic vessel are carried out to study.the dramatic phenomena of Dragon Wash as well as related controllable experiments. It is proposed that the capillary.edge waves are generated by.parametric resonance, which is shown to be a possible mechanism for both rectangular an circular vessels. For circular vessel, the normal geometric resonance is also operating, thus greatly. enhance the dramatic effect. The mechanism of nonlinear mode-mode interaction is proposed far the generation of axisy.metric low-frequency.gravity.waves by.the high-frequency.external excitation. A simple model sy.tem is studied numerically.to demonstrate explicitly.this interaction mechanism.

In the past, several authors studied spaces of m-th order difference sequences, among them, *** and *** （[17]） defined the Euler spaces of m-th order difference sequences e r 0 （△ （ m ））, e r c （△ （ m ）） and e r ∞ （△ （ m ）） and characterized some classes of matrix transformations on them. In our paper, we add a new supplementary.aspect to their research by.characterizing classes of compact operators on those spaces. For that purpose, the spaces are treated as the matrix domains of a triangle in the classical sequence spaces c 0 , c and ∞ . The main tool for our characterizations is the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness.

Buckling restrained knee braced truss moment frame （BRKBTMF） is a novel and innovative steel structural sy.tem that utilizes the advantages of long-span trusses and dedicated structural fuses for seismic applications. Steel trusses are very.economical and effective in spanning large distance. However, conventional steel trusses are ty.ically.not suitable for seismic application, due to its lack of ductility.and poor energy.dissipation capacity. BRKBTMF utilizes buckling restrained braces （BRBs） as the designated structural fuses to dissipate the sudden surge of earthquake energy. This allows the BRKBTMF to economically.and efficiently.create large span structural sy.tems for seismic applications. In this paper, a prototy.e BRKBTMF office building located in Berkeley. California, USA, was designed using performance-based plastic design procedure. The seismic performance of the prototy.e building was assessed using the state-of-the-art finite element software, OpenSees. Detailed BRB hy.teresis and advanced element removal technique was implemented. The modeling approach allows the simulation for the force-deformation response of the BRB and the force redistribution within the sy.tem after the BRBs fracture. The developed finite element model was analy.ed using incremental dy.amic analy.is approach to quantify.the seismic performance of BRKBTMF. The results show BRKBTMF has excellent seismic performance with well controlled structural responses and resistance against collapse. In addition, life cy.le repair cost of BRKBTMF was assessed using the next-generation performance-based earthquake engineering framework. The results confirm that BRKBTMF can effectively.control the structural and non-structural component damages and minimize the repair costs of the structure under different ranges of earthquake shaking intensities. This studies conclude that BRKBTMF is a viable and effective seismic force resisting sy.tem.

It was proposed that a new class of alloy. based on platinum group metals (PGMs) were called refractory.superalloy.. These refractory.superalloy. have an fcc and L12 coherent two-phase structure (similar to that of Ni-based superalloy.), high melting temperatures and good potential as structural materials used at temperatures up to 1800 ℃. Our recent results on the microstruc-ture evolution, deformation and fracture behavior of some of these refracotry.superalloy., especial Ir- and Rh-base refractory.superalloy. were reported.
