BACKGROUND Survival in patients with autoimmune liver disease overlap syndromes(AILDOS)compared to those with single autoimmune liver disease is *** To investigate the survival of patients with AILDOS and assess the accuracy of non-invasive serum models for predicting liver-related *** Patients with AILDOS were defined as either autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis overlap(AIH-PBC)or autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis overlap(AIH-PSC)and were identified from three tertiary centres for this cohort ***-related death or transplantation(liver-related mortality)was determined using a population-based data linkage *** scores for liver-related death were compared for accuracy[including liver outcome score(LOS),Hepascore,Mayo Score,model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score and MELD incorporated with serum sodium(MELD-Na)score].RESULTS Twenty-two AILDOS patients were followed for a median of 3.1 years(range,0.35-7.7).Fourteen were female,the median age was 46.7 years(range,17.8 to 82.1)and median Hepascore was 1(range,0.07-1).At five years post enrolment,57%of patients remained free from liver-related mortality(74%AIH-PBC,27%AIH-PSC).There was no significant difference in survival between AIH-PBC and *** was a significant predictor of liver-related mortality(P<0.05)in patients with AIH-PBC(n=14)but not AIH-PSC(n=8).A LOS cut-point of 6 discriminated liver-related mortality in AIH-PBC patients(P=0.012,log-rank test,100%sensitivity,77.8%specificity)(Harrell's C-statistic 0.867).The MELD score,MELD-Na score and Mayo Score were not predictive of liver-related mortality in any *** Survival in the rare,AILDOS is *** current study supports the LOS as a predictor of liver-related mortality in AIH-PBC *** trials investigating predictors of survival in AILDOS are required.

Modelling surface runoff using the soil conservation service-curve number method in a drought prone agro-ecological zone in Rwanda

Runoff farming is reported to improve land productivity and crop yields in hot and dry *** study was conducted to assess the available rainwater that can be harvested in a conserved catchment in a drought prone agro-ecological *** study was carried out in the Cyili sub-catchment,southern province of Rwanda,which has an irregular rainfall pattern and unexploited runoff *** Conservation Service-Curve Number method (SCS-CN),CROPWAT model version 8 and Hazen model with an average daily rainfall data recorded from 1971 to 2016 were applied to estimate the runoff and water requirements in the study *** of the study revealed that more than half rainfall water received in the catchment was lost through runoff (229.8 mm) and effective rainfall was lower (246.9 mm) than the actual crop water requirement for maize (330 mm).The expected seasonal surface runoff volume to be harvested by the farmers was 3008 m3 ha-1 per season and 1.29 × 106 m3 per season for the entire whole sub-catchment (430 ha).Based on Hazen model,the return period of low rainfall (dry spell) event would be expected every 2 years with a 98% probability of *** sub-catchment has higher potential runoff volume to stabilize the deficit of water demand in the period of short rainy *** suggests that rainwater harvesting through supplementary irrigation is an option to improve the crop yield in the dry period as well as in the annual dry season.

Human bodily movements are primarily controlled by the contractions of skeletal muscles. Unlike joint or skeletal movements that are generally performed in the large displacement range, the contractions of the skeletal muscles that underpin these movements are subtle in intensity yet high in frequency. This subtlety of movement makes it a formidable challenge to develop wearable and durable so?t materials to electrically monitor such motions with high fidelity for the purpose of, for example, muscle/neuromuscular disease diagnosis. Here we report that an intrinsically fragile ultralow-density graphene-based cellular monolith sandwiched between silicone rubbers can exhibit a highly effective stress and strain transfer mechanism at its interface with the rubber, with a remarkable improvement in stretchability(>100%). In particular, this hybrid also exhibits a highly sensitive, broadband-frequency electrical response(up to 180 Hz) for a wide range of strains. By correlating the mechanical signal of muscle movements obtained from this hybrid material with electromyography, we demonstrate that the strain sensor based on this hybrid material may provide a new, so?t and wearable mechanomyography approach for real-time monitoring of complex neuromuscular–skeletal interactions in a broad range of healthcare and human–machine interface applications. This work also provides a new architecture-enabled functional so?t material platform for wearable electronics.

中国东部陆相渤海湾盆地东营凹陷古近系沙河街组油页岩中有机质的富集机制一直是研究热点,但关于异养生物及硫循环对有机质富集过程影响的研究较少.通过有机地球化方法对东营凹陷沙河街组第三、四段富有机质烃源岩进行精细研究,认为伴随着明显的水体分层,藻类勃发进一步加剧了底水缺氧的条件,海水带来了丰富的硫酸盐促进了强烈的细菌硫还原(Bacterial Sulfur Reduction,BSR)作用,将这种缺氧条件进一步扩展到水柱上部形成透光层缺氧(Photic Zone Euxinia,PZE),而PZE有利于光合自养绿硫菌的剧烈活动.强烈的BSR作用及间歇性的PZE控制东营凹陷古湖盆中藻类等水生生物的组成,原核细菌及海相金藻类对有机质富集有一定贡献.通过分析海相藻类生物标志物C3024-正丙基胆甾烷和透光层缺氧生物标志物异海绵烷与有机碳丰度的关系,研究认为在相对丰富的外源硫酸盐输入、厌氧异养细菌作用、光能自养细菌作用和透光层缺氧条件下形成的硫循环,对东营古湖盆沙河街组烃源岩有机质的富集起主要控制作用.

ANALYSIS OF FREEMIUM BUSINESS MODEL CONSIDERING NETWORK EXTERNALITIES AND CONSUMER UNCERTAINTY

An emerging business model increasingly used by companies in the online software market is to provide both a free basic version and a paid premium version for a service or a product to customers. Such a setting is often called freemium model. The existence of the free version can reduce the customer uncertainty regarding the evaluation of the commercial software and make use of network effect to improve the firm＇s profit. However, the freemium model may also have the cannibalization effect which can hurt the profit. Hence, the from needs to determine the optimal content for the free version and the optimal price for the premium version to maximize its profit. In this paper, thst, we obtain the optimal decisions of the freemium model and their properties. Second, we compare the freemium model with the traditional charge-for-everything model that all content of the product need to be charged in terms of the profit, customer welfare, and social welfare. The results show that when customer underestimates the value of the software significantly and the true value of the software is high enough, the freemium model can generate higher profit, higher customer welfare, and higher social welfare. Otherwise, the freemium model may not deliver the desired results.

Observations on Arrhenius Degradation of Lithium-Ion Capacitors

Earlier research determined that lithium-ion capacitor (LIC) cycle life degradation can be accelerated by elevated temperature. LIC cycle life degradation can be described by an Arrhenius equation. This study performed cycle life testing at a constant temperature but varied cycle current. The results were described by an Arrhenius equation relying upon the number of cycles and a constant, which was determined by cycle current. Using mathematical derivations and experimental results, the researchers quantified the effects of activation energy and temperature upon this constant. Because cell temperature is nearly constant during cycles, it was deduced that elevated cycle current decreases activation energy. This lower activation energy then accelerates degradation. Thus this research demonstrates that cycle current ages LICs through its effects on their activation energies.

A Conceptual Framework for Threat Assessment Based on Organization’s Information Security Policy

The security breaches of sensitive information have remained difficult to solve due to increased malware programs and unauthorized access to data stored in critical assets. As risk appetite differ from one organization to another, it prompts the threat analysis tools be integrated with organization’s information security policy so as to ensure security controls at local settings. However, it has been noted that the current tools for threat assessment processes have not encompassed information security policy for effective security management (i.e.?confidentiality, integrity and availability) based on organization’s risk appetite and culture. The information security policy serves as a tool to provide guidance on how to manage and secure all business operations including critical assets, infrastructure and people in the organization. This guidance (e.g. usage and controls) facilitates the provisions for threat assessment and compliance based on local context. The lack of effective threat assessment frameworks at local context have promoted the exposure of critical assets such as database servers, mails servers, web servers and user smart-devices at the hand of attackers and thus increase risks and probability to compromise the assets. In this paper we have proposed a conceptual framework for security threat assessment based on organization’s information security policy. Furthermore, the study proposed the policy automation canvas for provision of a methodology to alert the security managers what possible threats found in their organizations for quick security mitigation without depending on security expertise.
