Melatonin is a versatile indolamine synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland in response to the photoperiodic information received by the retinohypothalamic signaling *** has many benefits,such as organizing circadian rhythms and acting as a powerful *** aimed to show the antitumor effects of melatonin in both in vivo and in vitro models through the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling pathway and the Argyrophilic Nucleolar Regulatory Region(AgNOR),using the Microcomputed Tomography(Micro CT).Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)cells were administered into the mice by subcutaneous *** with solid tumors were injected intraperitoneally with 50 and 100 mg/kg melatonin for 14 *** measurements for the taken tumors were made with micro-CT imaging,immunohistochemistry(IHC),real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and ***,the tumor tissue volume in the Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin group was significantly lower than that in the other groups in the data obtained from micro-CT *** the IHC analysis,the groups treated with Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin were compared when the mTOR signaling pathway and factor 8(F8)expression were compared with the control *** was determined that there was a significant decrease(psignificant differences were found in the total AgNOR area/nuclear area(TAA/NA)ratio in the treatment groups(psignificant differences between the amount of mTOR mRNA for the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K),AKT serine/Threonine Kinase(PKB/AKT)genes(psis was evaluated with Annexin V in an in vitro study with different doses of melatonin;It was observed that 100µg/mL melatonin dose caused an increase in the apoptotic cell *** this study,we have reported anti-tumor effects of melatonin in cell culture studies as well as in mice *** characterization of the melatonin-mediated cancer inhibitory effects will be valuable in advanc

synthesis and characterization of monosize magnetic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) beads

Monosize, 1.6 μm, magnetic beads of poly（glycidyl methacrylate） [M-poly（GMA）], were prepared by dispersion polymerization in the presence of Fe3O4 nano-powder. Monosize M-poly（GMA） beads were characterized by swelling tests, density measurements, electron spin resonance （EsR）, vibrating sample magnetometer （VsM） and scanning electron microscopy （sEM）. The characteristic functional groups of M-poly（GMA） beads were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer （FTIR）. The M-poly（GMA） beads are highly uniform in size and have a spherical shape and non-porous structure. Polydispersity index （PDI） of M-poly（GMA） beads was calculated to be around 1.008. The hydrated density of the M-poly（GMA） beads measured at 25 ℃ was 1.14 g/cm^3. The content of oxirane groups on the surface of the M-poly（GMA） sample was found to be 3.46 mmol/g by using perchloric acid titration. The specific surface area of the M-poly（GMA） beads was determined to be 3.2 m^2/g. The equilibrium swelling ratio was 52%. The volume fraction of magnetite nanopowder in the M-poly（GMA） beads was found to be 4.5%. The g factor, that can be considered as a quantity characteristic of the molecules in which the unpaired electrons are located, was found to be 2.28 for M-poly（GMA）. The external magnetic field at resonance was calculated to be 2055 Gs which was found sufficient to excite all of the dipole moments present in 1.0 g of M-poly（GMA） sample.

A Research on QFD-＂House of Brand＂ in Fashion Industry

Fashion continues to be an area that reflects the increasing popularity of different theoretical and practical approaches of researchers from different disciplines. Due to the rapid cycles of fashion, sustainable products and processes in terms of technical creativity and innovative approach are needed. In this context, fashion marketing emerges as an integrative marketing application with its both technical and social aspects by taking potential customers center that symbolize rapid change and creativity of fashion products. In this study, QFD-House of Brand was designed with Quality Function Deployment （QFD） approach. In this context, the experts （focus group） in Fashion Industry evaluated the selected fashion brand and its selected products by prioritizing the criteria. These evaluations were used in QFD-House of Brand. Thus, technical and social aspects of fashion industry were analysed together. By this technique, QFD-House of Brand established in relation to products and brand was interpreted and optimization suggestions were presented in accordance with the findings of the research. In addition, suggestions on sustainability and optimization of brand equity in fashion industry were provided.

Conduction Mechanism Analysis of Inversion Current in MOs Tunnel Diodes

self inversion issue and excess capacitance phenomenon were observed for the first time in relatively thick silicon dioxide (siO2) in the form of MOs (metal(Al)/siO2/p type crystalline silicon) structure. Both phenomena were based on minority carriers (electrons in this case) and studied through DC current-applied bias voltage (I-V) and AC admittance measurements in dark/light condition as a function of ambient temperature (295 - 380 K). Either of the cases was the departure of traditional MOs analysis, manifesting themselves in the inversion regime of MOs diode. Increase in frequency/temperature/light intensity within dark and light conditions led to weaken the maxima of hump in C-V curves and finally turned into deep depletion mode after exceeding threshold value of frequency/temperature/light intensity. In resumed conditions, supplementary I-V measurements were carried out to describe the generation and conduction mechanism(s) for minority carriers (electrons).

Crescentic glomerulonephritis in children:a single centre experience

Background:Crescentic glomerulonephritis(CsGN)is characterized by crescents in 50%or more of glomeruli and clinically by a sudden and progressive decline in renal ***:We evaluated the etiology,clinical features,prognostic factors and long-term outcome of *** January 2000 and December 2010,45 children(26 girls,19 boys)with biopsy-proven CsGN(>50%crescents)were investigated ***:The mean age of the patients was 130.86±33.77 *** mean duration of symptoms prior to diagnosis was 26±12 days(4-40 days).Most of the children had hypertension(62.2%),macroscopic hematuria(73.3%),oligoanuria(44.4%),edema(51.1%)and purpuric rash(40%)at *** final clinical status of the patients was complete remission(n=21),partial remission(n=5)or chronic kidney disease(n=19).Adverse outcomes were significantly associated with a long duration between the onset of symptoms and treatment(P=0.038),the presence of oligoanuria(P=0.006),a severe decreased glomerular filtration rate(GFRsis(P=0.003)on admission,the ratio of crescents(>75%)(P=0.03),and the ratio of fi brous crescents(P=0.015).Conclusion:The outcome of CsGN in children continues to be poor,and it should be treated as a renal emergency.

Goal-directed fluid therapy in gastrointestinal cancer surgery:A prospective randomized study

A Modified selective Medium Containing Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC) for the Isolation of <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i>from Raw Milk

A modified selective medium (modified Cetrimide Agar, mCA) consisting of 200 μg/mL benzalkonium chloride (BKC) was developed for the isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from raw milk. Initially, a total of 55 isolates were obtained from 14 raw milk samples collected from several dairy plants in Ankara, Turkey. Among these isolates, 19 were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 28 as Pseudomonas fluorescens, 4 as Acinetobacter baumannii, 2 as Enterobacter intermedium, 1 asEnterobacter agglomerans, and 1 as Escherichia coli using Microbact biochemical test kit. BKC was chosen as a selective agent to suppress growth of competitive flora because it is very effective against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria while P. aeruginosa is resistant. MICs (minimum inhibitory concentration) for BKC were determined by agar dilution method. The concentration of 200 μg/mL BKC inhibited competitive flora, while 90% of P. aeruginosa strains were resistant. When the results of enumeration of P. aeruginosa and other Gram (-) bacteria in Cetrimide Agar (CA) and mCA were compared, it was observed that mCA was more selective than the standard CA in preventing the growth of competitive flora especially of P. fluorescens.

This paper presents an application of the rock mass classification systems,namely,Geomechanics Classification system(RMR), Geological strength Index(GsI) and the newly adapted A-RMR for the characterization of the rock masses surrounding the portals of the Ordu Peripheral Highway *** order to characterize the rock masses,which mainly consist of flysch(mostly alternation of sandstone,marl and siltstone) and pyroclastics(agglomerate and tuft),engineering geological investigations have been carried out in three stages as surface,subsurface and laboratory investigations along the tunnel *** boreholes with a total length of 1497 m drilling have been drilled along the tunnel route to assist and verify rock mass classifications. Approximately,seventy five rock core samples have been obtained for rock mechanics *** shear strength and geomechanical properties of the rock masses were assigned as a result of a synthesis of the results of laboratory testing,GsI, RMR and the newly adapted A-RMR *** information provided from all investigations has been gathered and handled for the characterization of the rock masses governing the slope stability of portal open-cut excavations of the *** and limit equilibrium analyses of the tunnel portals have been employed for portal slope stability considerations.

Objectives: The study was conducted retro-spectively to evaluate the services offered at the Premarital Counseling Center (PCC) and the characteristics of the individuals who obtained counseling at the center in Kayseri. Methods: A retrospective review is based on data from the Premarital Counseling Center (PCC) in Kayseri. seven hundred fifty four (754) individuals who attended the Center were included in the study sample. Data were collected from the Center’s records. Records of all people were reviewed by the researchers. Differences in proportions were analyzed by Chi square test and t test. Results: The age-average of the individuals who consulted the PCC was 26.2 ± 8.3, 91.1% of the individuals had Rh (+), 99.5% of them had VDRL (-), 3.9% had Hbs Ag (+), 0.8% had HCV (+) while none of the individuals was HIV (+) affected. It’s shown that 90.6% of the individuals who were between the ages of 15 - 19 were women, 9.4% of them were men. The difference between the age and the gender of the individuals who came to the center was considered significant. It was determined that the individuals who received counseling services at the PCC were not given any kind of educational and consulting services before.
