We propose a.simple integra.ed na.rowba.d filter consisting of two grooves on the surfa.e of a.sla. *** filtering is performed in tra.smission a. oblique incidence due to excita.ion of a. eigenmode of the structure loca.ized a. a.ridge ca.ity between the grooves. For the considered pa.a.eters, zero reflecta.ce a.d unity tra.smitta.ce a.e a.hieved a. resona.t conditions. The width a.d loca.ion of the tra.smitta.ce pea. ca. be controlled by cha.ging the widths of the grooves a.d of the ridge, respectively. The proposed filter ma. find a.plica.ion in wa.eguide-integra.ed spectrometers.

We propose a.d theoretica.ly a.d numerica.ly investiga.e na.rowba.d integra.ed filters consisting of identica. resona.t dielectric ridges on the surfa.e of a.single-mode dielectric sla. wa.eguide. The proposed composite structures opera.e nea. a.bound sta.e in the continuum(BIC) a.d ena.le spectra. filtering of tra.sverseelectric-pola.ized guided modes propa.a.ing in the wa.eguide. We demonstra.e tha. by proper choice of the dista.ces between the ridges, fla.-top reflecta.ce profiles with steep slopes a.d virtua.ly no sidelobes ca. be obta.ned using just a.few ridges. In pa.ticula., the structure consisting of two ridges ca. optica.ly implement the second-order Butterworth filter, wherea. a. a.la.ger number of ridges, excellent a.proxima.ions to higher-order Butterworth filters ca. be a.hieved. Owing to the BIC supported by the ridges constituting the composite structure, the fla.-top reflection ba.d ca. be ma.e a.bitra.ily na.row without increa.ing structure size. In a.dition to the filtering properties, the investiga.ed structures support a.other type of BIC-the Fa.ry–Perot BIC-a.ising when the dista.ces between a.ja.ent ridges meet the Fa.ry–Perot resona.ce condition. In the vicinity of the Fa.ry–Perot BIC, a. effect simila. to electroma.netica.ly induced tra.spa.ency is observed, na.ely, sha.p tra.smitta.ce pea.s a.a.nst the ba.kground of a.wide tra.smitta.ce dip.

We investiga.e the diffra.tion of the guided modes of a.dielectric sla. wa.eguide on a.simple integra.ed structure consisting of a.single dielectric ridge on the surfa.e of the wa.eguide. Numerica. simula.ions ba.ed on a.eriodic rigorous coupled-wa.e a.a.ysis demonstra.e the existence of sha.p resona.t fea.ures a.d bound sta.es in the continuum(BICs) in the reflecta.ce a.d tra.smitta.ce spectra.occurring a. the oblique incidence of a.tra.sverseelectric(TE)-pola.ized guided mode on the ridge. Using the effective index method, we expla.n the resona.ces by the excita.ion of cross-pola.ized modes of the ridge. Forma.ion of the BICs a.e confirmed using a.theoretica. model ba.ed on coupled-wa.e theory. The model suggests tha. the BICs occur due to the coupling of qua.i-TE a.d qua.i-tra.sverse-ma.netic modes of the structure. Simple a.a.ytica. expressions for the a.gle of incidence a.d the ridge width predicting the loca.ion of the BICs a.e obta.ned. The existence of high-Q resona.ces a.d BICs ena.les using the considered integra.ed structure for sensing, tra.sforma.ion of optica. signa.s, a.d enha.cing nonlinea. light–ma.ter intera.tions. Due to the Lorentzia. line sha.e of the resona.ces nea. the BICs, the structure is a.so promising for filtering a.plica.ions.
