Robust and high-sensitivity thermal probing at the nanoscale based on resonance Raman ratio (R3)

Raman spectroscopy-based temperature sensing usually tracks the change of Raman wavenumber,linewidth and intensity,and has found very broad applications in characterizing the energy and charge transport in nanomaterials over the last *** temperature coefficients of these Raman properties are highly material-dependent,and are subjected to local optical scattering *** a result,Raman-based temperature sensing usually suffers quite large uncertainties and has low ***,a novel method based on dual resonance Raman phenomenon is developed to precisely measure the absolute temperature rise of nanomaterial(nm WS_(2) film in this work)from 170 to 470 K.A 532 nm laser(2.33 eV photon energy)is used to conduct the Raman *** photon energy is very close to the excitonic transition energy of WS_(2) at temperatures close to room temperature.A parameter,termed resonance Raman ratio(R3)Ω=I_(A1g)/Ie_(2g) is introduced to combine the temperature effects on resonance Raman scattering for the A_(1g) and e_(2g) modes.Ω has a change of more than two orders of magnitude from 177 to 477 K,and such change is independent of film thickness and local optical *** is shown that when Ω is varied by 1%,the temperature probing sensitivity is 0.42 K and 1.16 K at low and high temperatures,*** on Ω,the in-plane thermal conductivity(k)of a∼25 nm-thick suspended WS_(2) film is measured using our energy transport state-resolved Raman(eT-Raman).k is found decreasing from 50.0 to 20.0 Wm^(−1) K^(−1) when temperature increases from 170 to 470 *** agrees with previous experimental and theoretical results and the measurement data using our *** R3 technique provides a very robust and high-sensitivity method for temperature probing of nanomaterials and will have broad applications in nanoscale thermal transport characterization,non-destructive evaluation,and manufacturing monitoring.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi（AMF） are important during revegetation of mining sites, but few studies compared AMF community in revegetated sites with pristine adjacent ecosystems. The aim of this study was to assess AMF species richness in a revegetated iron-mining site and adjacent ecosystems and to relate AMF occurrence to soil chemical parameters. Soil samples were collected in dry and rainy seasons in a revegetated iron-mining site（RA） and compared with pristine ecosystems of forest（FL）, canga（NG）,and Cerrado（Ce）. AMF species were identified by spore morphology from field and trap cultures and by LSU r DNA sequencing using Illumina. A total of 62 AMF species were recovered, pertaining to 18 genera and nine families of Glomeromycota. The largest number of species and families were detected in RA, and Acaulospora mellea and Glomus sp1 were the most frequent species. Species belonging to Glomeraceae and Acaulosporaceae accounted for 42%–48% of total species richness. Total number of spores and mycorrhizal inoculum potential tended to be higher in the dry than in the rainy season, except in RA. Sequences of uncultured Glomerales were dominant in all sites and seasons and five species were detected exclusively by DNA-based identification. Redundancy analysis evidenced soil p H,organic matter, aluminum, and iron as main factors influencing AMF presence. In conclusion, revegetation of the iron-mining site seems to be effective in maintaining a diverse AMF community and different approaches are complementary to reveal AMF species, despite the larger number of species being identified by traditional identification of field spores.

Landlocked Fall Chinook Salmon egg Storage for Delayed Fertilization

Delayed fertilization of salmonid eggs can be a useful option to enhance the efficiency of artificial spawning operations. This experiment examined the fertility of landlocked fall Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) eggs stored for various times after removal from female broodstock. Fertilization occurred either immediately after spawning or the eggs were stored with oxygen at 11°C and fertilized at 4, 6, 8, 12, or 20 hours post-spawn. Survival to the eyed stage of egg development was significantly greater in the eggs fertilized immediately or after four, six, or eight hours of storage compared to those eggs stored for 12 or 20 hours prior to fertilization (P = 0.024). Survival to hatch was also significantly different (P = 0.018) and followed the same pattern. This study is the first to document the successful fertilization of landlocked fall Chinook salmon eggs after eight hours of storage.

Non-pharmacological therapies for inflammatory bowel disease: Recommendations for self-care and physician guidance

We performed a scoping review on sought-after complementary therapies for patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD), specifically diet, physical activity and exercise(PA/e), and psychotherapy. We aim to update patients with IBD on therapies for self-care and provide physicians with guidance on how to direct their patients for the management of IBD. A search of MeDLINe, eMBASe, and PUBMeD was completed in Sept 2016. Studies on diet, PA/e, or psychotherapy in patients with IBD were included. Medical Subject Heading terms and Boolean operators were used. The search was limited to full-text english articles describing an adult population. This review included 67 studies: Diet(n = 19); PA/e(n = 19); and psychotherapy(n = 29). We have made the following recommendations:(1) Diet: Consumption of diets rich in vegetables, fruit and soluble fiber may be beneficial in IBD. A trial of a low FODMAP diet can be considered in those patients with functional gastrointestinal symptoms. Restrictive diets are lacking in evidence and should be avoided;(2) PA/e: Regular lowmoderate intensity activity, including cardiovascular and resistance exercise, has been shown to improve quality of life(QOL) and may improve inflammation; and(3) psychotherapy: Therapies such as cognitive-behavioural interventions, mindfulness, hypnosis, and stress management have been shown to improve QOL, but evidence is limited on their impact on anxiety, depression, and disease activity. Overall, these complementary therapies are promising and should be used to treat patients with IBD from a more holistic perspective.

Hydrologic modeling of the Heihe watershed by DLBRM in Northwest China

Water shortage is a chronic problem in arid Northwest *** rapid population growth and expanding urbanization as well as potential climate change impacts are likely to worsen the situation,threatening domestic,irrigation,and industrial supplies and even the survival of the ecosystems in Northwest *** paper describes the preliminary work of adapting the Distributed Large Basin Runoff Model(DLBRM) to the Heihe watershed(the second largest inland river in arid Northwestern China,with a drainage area of 128,000 km2) for understanding distribution of glacial-snow melt,groundwater,surface runoff,and evapotranspi-ration,and for assessing hydrological impacts of climate change and glacial recession on water supply in the middle and lower reaches of the *** simulation results show that the Qilian Mountain in the upper reach area produces most runoff in the Heihe *** simulated daily river flows during the period of 1990-2000 indicate that the Heihe River dis-charges about 1×109 m3 of water from the middle reach(at Zhengyixia Station) to lower reach,with surface runoff and interflow contributing 51 and 49 percent *** sandy lower soil zone in the middle reach has the highest evapotranspiration rate and also contributes nearly half of the river *** underway focuses on the DLBRM model improvement and incorporation of the climate change and management scenarios to the hydrological simulations in the watershed.

水资源短缺是中国西北干旱地区长期的问题,区域人口增加、城市化扩张,加之气候变化的影响进一步加剧了西北地区水资源短缺,也使生活用水、灌溉用水、工业用水和维持生态系统稳定的用水危险加剧.采用分布式大流域径流模型(DLBRM)模拟黑河流域水文(中国第二大内陆河,流域面积128 000 km2)来理解区域的冰川和积雪融化水、地下水、地表水、蒸散发等方面的分布,评估气候变化对水文的影响和冰川退缩对中游和下游来水量的影响.模拟结果表明,黑河流域的大部分产流那源于黑河上游地区的祁连山.模拟1990—2000年黑河河流日流量变化结果认为,黑河中游正义峡给下游的供水为10×108m3,其中地表径流占51%,层间流占49%.中游地区沙土具有较高的蒸腾发能力,近一半的地表水被蒸发掉.模拟实践证明,分布式大流域径流模型可以结合气候变化、水资源管理方面的成果,改进流域水文模拟的精度.

Objective:Parents may use various information sources to obtain information about sport-related concussions(SRC).This study examined SRCrelated information sources used by parents of United States middle school children(age:10-15 years).Methods:A panel of 1083 randomly selected ***,aged≥18 years and identifying as parents of middle school children,completed an online questionnaire capturing parental and child characteristics,and utilization and perceived trustworthiness of various sources of SRC-related *** logistic regression models identified factors associated with utilizing each *** odds ratios(OR)with 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)excluding 1.00 were deemed ***:Doctors/healthcare providers(49.9%)and other healthcare-related resources(e.g.,Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,WebMD)(37.8%)were common SRC-related information sources;64.0%of parents utilized≥1 of these *** sources were considered“very”or“extremely”trustworthy for SRC-related information among parents using these sources(doctors/healthcare providers:89.8%;other healthcare-related resources:70.9%).A 10-year increase in parental age was associated with higher odds of utilizing doctors/healthcare providers(adjusted odd ratio(OR_(adjusted))=1.09,95%CI:1.02-1.16)and other healthcare-related resources(OR_(adjusted)=1.11,95%CI:1.03-1.19).The odds of utilizing doctors/healthcare providers(OR_(adjusted)=0.58,95%CI:0.40-0.84)and other healthcare-related resources(OR_(adjusted)=0.64,95%CI:0.44-0.93)were lower among parents whose middle school children had concussion histories versus the parents of children who did not have concussion ***:One-third of parents did not report using doctors/healthcare providers or other healthcare-related resources for SRC-related *** associated with underutilization of these sources may be targets for future *** education for healthcare providers and e

Transient thermal response of micro-thermal conductivity detector (μTCD) for the identification of gas mixtures:An ultra-fast and low power method
