The effects of an experimental drought on the ecophysiology and fruiting phenology of a tropical rainforest palm

Aims Anthropogenic climate change is predicted to increase mean temperatures and rainfall *** tropical rainforest species will respond to this climate change remains ***,we analysed the effects of a 4-year experimental throughfall exclusion(TFe)on an Australian endemic palm(Normambya normanbyi)in the Daintree rainforest of North Queensland,*** aimed to understand the impact of a simulated reduction in rainfall on the species’physiological processes and fruiting *** We examined the fruiting phenology and ecophysiology of this locally abundant palm to determine the ecological responses of the species to *** water availability was reduced overall by~30%under a TFe experiment,established in may *** monitored monthly fruiting activity for 8 years in total(2009–2018),including 4 years prior to the onset of the *** the most recent year of the study,we measured physiological parameters including photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance and carbon stable isotopes(δ13C,an integrated measure of water use efficiency)from young and mature leaves in both the dry and wet *** Findings We determined that the monthly fruiting activity of all palms was primarily driven by photoperiod,mean solar radiation and mean ***,individuals exposed to lower soil moisture in the TFe decreased significantly in fruiting activity,photosynthetic rate and stomatal *** found that these measures of physiological performance were affected by the TFe,season and the interaction of the *** of fruiting activity in the TFe palms was observed in 2018,when there was an increase in shallow soil moisture compared with previous years in the *** findings suggest that palms,such as the ***,will be sensitive to future climate change with long-term monitoring recommended to determine population-scale impacts.

effect of water on the performance of Pd-ZSm-5 catalysts for the combustion of methane

Palladium-based catalysts were prepared using impregnation （I） and ion-exchange method （e） with ZSm-5 as support. Pd-ZSm-5（I） and Pd-ZSm-5（e） catalysts presented the high activity for the combustion of methane. The order of activity was consistent with Brcnsted acidity of the catalysts： Pd-ZSm-5（I）〉Pd-ZSm-5（e）. It was shown by FT-IR that methane was adsorbed on the acidic bridging hydroxyl groups of ZSm-5-supported Pd catalysts. The effect of water on the activity of Pd-ZSm-5 was investigated. The inhibition effect of water on the conversion of methane was observed. However, water promoted the stability of Pd-ZSm-5 obviously during extended time periods. XPS measurement showed that Pd/Si ratio near the surface of Pd-ZSm-5（e） decreased more pronouncedly with time in dry stream than that of Pd-ZSm-5（I）, this is attributed to the dispersion of Pd into the micropores. The addition of water, however, retarded Pd dispersion. And high partial pressure of methane reduced this effect of water vapor. The decrease in activity during the stability test can be explained on the basis of the reduction of Pd/Si ratio.

Chlamydia trachomatis and sperm lipid peroxidation in infertile men

Aim: To relate the presence of anti-Chlamydial trachomatis IgA in semen with sperm lipid membrane peroxidation and changes in seminal parameters. methods: Semen samples of the male partners of 52 couples assessed for undiagnosed infertility were examined for the presence of IgA antibody against C. trachomatis. The level of sperm membrane lipid peroxidation was estimated by determining the malondialdehyde (mDA) formation. Results: Sperm membrane of infertile males with positive IgA antibodies against C. trachomatis showed a higher level of lipid peroxidation than that of infertile males with negative IgA antibody (Pere was a positive correlation (Petween the level of C. trachomatis antibody and the magnitude of sperm membrane lipid peroxidation. All the other tested semen parameters were found to be similar in the two groups. Conclusion: The activation of immune system by C. trachomatis may promote lipid peroxidation of the sperm membrane. This could be the way by which C. trachomatis affects fertility.

evaluation of Operating Domains in Power Systems

This paper presents the results of a recent major industry-supported study with the aim to provide power system operators with more meaningful and effective means to quickly identify feasible operating boundaries as well as more flexibility to select alternate operating scenarios. In this regard, the paper outlines the main theoretical basis and computational framework for the development of innovative computerized schemes capable of identifying and processing various system integrity domains. The novel framework allows system operators to determine – in a fast and reliable manner – the most favorable operating scenarios which maintain system security, reliability and operating performance quality. For demonstration purposes, and without loss of generality, an emphasis is given to the dynamic system security problem where the Transient energy Function (TeF) method is used to define quantitative measures of the level (degree) of system security for a given operating scenario. Nonetheless, the framework presented is applicable quite as well to other system performance functions and criteria that may be considered. A demonstrative application is presented for a 9-bus benchmark system, widely used in the literature. In addition, a practical application is also presented for the Saudi electricity Company (SeC) power system where the operating security domain was evaluated in the operating parameter space spanned by two major interface flows in the system.

Time evolution of the multicomponent Laser Plasma Parameters

The emission of CulnSe2-based laser ablation plasma has been investigated at a distance of I mm from the target surface. The plasma was formed by radiation of the neodymium laser （5 ×10^8 ***^-2; 1,064 nm; 20 ns; 12 Hz）. The temporal dynamics have been obtained for the plasma parameters, such as the population of excited states of atoms, electron temperature and density. Two peaks were observed in the temporal profile of the population of excited states. The temporal dependence of electron temperature was singly peaked. During the time interval of 0-300 ns, the electron temperature varied in the range of 1.6-1.2 eV and the density of electrons varied in the range of 1.3 × 10^16 cm^-3 to 9 × 10^14 cm^-3. It has been established that at the selected conditions of plasma formation saved ratio of copper and indium, which correspond to stoichoimetric target composition.

Neuromorphic vision sensors have been extremely beneficial in developing energy-efficient intelligent systems for robotics and privacy-preserving security *** is a dire need for devices to mimic the retina's photoreceptors that encode the light illumination into a sequence of spikes to develop such ***,we develop a hybrid perovskite-based flexible photoreceptor whose capacitance changes proportionally to the light intensity mimicking the retina's rod cells,paving the way for developing an efficient artificial retina *** proposed device constitutes a hybrid nanocomposite of perovskites(methyl-ammonium lead bromide)and the ferroelectric terpolymer(polyvinylidene fluoride trifluoroethylene-chlorofluoroethylene).A metal-insulator-metal type capacitor with the prepared composite exhibits the unique and photosensitive capacitive behavior at various light intensities in the visible light *** proposed photoreceptor mimics the spectral sensitivity curve of human photopic *** hybrid nanocomposite is stable in ambient air for 129 weeks,with no observable degradation of the composite due to the encapsulation of hybrid perovskites in the hydrophobic *** functionality of the proposed photoreceptor to recognize handwritten digits(mNIST)dataset using an unsupervised trained spiking neural network with 72.05%recognition accuracy is *** demonstration proves the potential of the proposed sensor for neuromorphic vision applications.

Intraventricular tuberculoma: A case report

Intracranial tuberculomas are one of the most serious formsof tuberculosis disease after meningitis tuberculosis. It incidence varies around 0.15% - 0.18% in the development world to 5% - 30% of intracranial masses in some under developments areas. These tuberculomas, of course ubiquitous, are mostly diagnosed in the adulthood and usually located in the cerebellum and the cerebral hemispheres. Intra ventricular involving is uncommon and just 10 cases had been described in the literature. We report a case of an intraventricular tuberculoma in a 26- year-old man and we discuss the pathogenesis and the radiological findings according this location.

Generation of edge-preserved noise-added phase-only hologram

Noise addition is a simple but effective method for generating a phase-only hologram （POH） of an object. Briefly, the intensity image of an object is added with random phase noise and converted into a digital Fresnel hologram. Subsequently, the phase component of the hologram is retained as the POH. Although the method is fast and the visual quality of the reconstructed image is acceptable, the edges and lines patterns are heavily fragmented. In this Letter, we propose a method to overcome this problem. An experimental evaluation based on numerical and optical reconstructions reveals that a hologram generated by our proposed method is capable of preserving line patterns with favorable quality.

We give an existence result of a renormalized solution for a class of nonlin- ear parabolic equations b（x,u）/ t-div （a（x,t,u, u））＋g（x,t,u,u ）＋H（x,t, u）=f,in QT, where the right side belongs to LP＇（0,T;W-1,p＇（Ω）） and where b（x,u） is unbounded function of u and where - div （ a （ x, t, u, u）） is a Leray-Lions type operator with growth ｜u ｜p- 1 in V u. The critical growth condition on g is with respect to u and no growth condition with re sp ect to u, while the function H （x, t, u） grows as｜ u ｜p - 1.
