With an increasing emphasis on renewable energy resources, wave power technology is becoming one of the re.l.stic solutions. However, the 2011 tsunami in Japan was a harsh reminder of the ferocity of the ocean. It is known that tsunamis are nearly undetectable in the open ocean but as the wave approaches the shore its energy is compressed, creating large destructive waves. The question posed here is whether an oscillating wave surge converter （oWSC） could withstand the force of an incoming tsunami. Several tools are used to provide an answer： an analytical 3D model developed within the framework of linear theory, a numerical model based on the non-linear shallow water equations and empirical formulas. Quantum dynamical maps are defined and studied for quantum statistical physics based on orlicz *** complements earlier work[26]where we made a strong case for the assertion that statistical physics of regular systems should prope.l. be based on the pair of orlicz spaces(lcosh-1,l log(l+1)),since this framework gives a better description of regular observables,and also allows for a we.l.defined entropy *** the present paper we"complete"the picture by addressing the issue of the dynamics of such a system,as described by a Markov semigroup corresponding to some Dirichlet form(see[4,13,14]).Specifically,we show that even in the most general non-commutative contexts,completely positive Markov maps satisfying a natural Det ailed Balance condition canonically admit an action on a large class of quantum orlicz *** is achieved by the development of a new interpolation strategy for extending the action of such maps to the appropriate intermediate spaces of the pair(l∞,l1).As a consequence,we obtain that completely positive quantum Markov dynamics naturally extends to the context proposed in[26].

The rates at which birds use energy may have profound effects on fitness, thereby influencing physiology, behavior, ecology and evolution. Comparisons of standardized metabolic rates （e.g., lower and upper limits of metabolic power output） present a method for elucidating the effects of ecological and evolutionary factors on the interface between physiology and life history in birds. In this paper we review variation in avian metabolic rates [basal metabolic rate （BMR; minimum normothermic metabolic rate）, summit metabolic rate （Msum; maximal thermoregulatory metabolic rate）, and maximal metabolic rate （MMR; maximal exercise metabolic rate）], the factors associated with this variation, the evidence for functional links between these metabolic traits, and the ecological and evolutionary significance of avian metabolic diversity. Both lower and upper limits to metabolic power production are phenotypically flexible traits, and vary in association with numerous ecological and evolutionary factors. For both inter- and intraspecific comparisons, lower and upper limits to metabolic power production are generally upregulated in response to energetically demanding conditions and downregulated when energetic demands are relaxed, or under conditions of energetic scarcity. Positive correlations have been documented between BMR, Msum and MMR in some, but not all studies on birds, providing partial support for the idea of a functional link between lower and upper limits to metabolic power production, but more intraspecific studies are needed to determine the robustness of this conclusion. Correlations between BMR and field metabolic rate （or daily energy expenditure） in birds are variable, suggesting that the.l.nkage between these traits is subject to behavioral adjustment, and studies of the relationship between field and maximal metabolic rates are.l.cking. our understanding of avian metabolic diversity would benefit from future studies of：（1） the functional and mechanistic li

The study focused on the modification with platinum of dark defective titania obtained via pulsed laser ablation. Both the method of Pt introduction and the nature of the Pt precursor were varied. All samples exhibited similar phase compositions, specific surface areas, and Pt contents. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy coupled with pulsed Co adsorption reve.l.d increased dispersity when photoreduction and the hydroxonitrate complex (Me _(4) N) _(2) [Pt _(2) (oH) _(2) (No _(3) ) _(8) ] were used. The sample featured a high content of single-atom species and subnano-sized Pt clusters. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that the photoreduction method facilitated the appearance of a larger number of Pt ^(2+) states, which appeared owing to the strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) eff ect of the transfer of electron density from the electron-saturated defects on the Tio _(2) surface to Pt ^(4+) . In the hydrogen evolution reaction, samples with a significant fraction of the Pt ^(2+) ionic component, capable of generating short-lived Pt^(0) single-atom sites under irradiation due to the SMSI eff ect, exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity. The 0.5Pt(C)/Tio_(2) -Ph sample exhibited the highest hydrogen yield with a quantum efficiency of 0.53, retaining its activity even after 8 h of operation.

Approaches to efficiency in manufacturing and assem bl y over the past 100 years have concentrated frequently on the twin themes of div iding jobs done by people into defined segments and to automating as many of tho se segments as possible. This approach to manufacturing engineering may be char acterised as one of deconstruction and re.l.cement so far as the role of the hum an being is concerned. More recently design engineering has been approached in a similar light with research into ’inte.l.gent’ methods involving, for example, expert systems or genetic algorithms to handle an increasing proportion of desi gn tasks. expert systems are predicated on the idea that it is possible to capture and systemise significant amounts of professional knowledge: a task that has proved with experience to be much more difficult than when such systems wer e first proposed. Genetic algorithms, notwithstanding considerable research eff ort, have yet to make significant inroads into the practise of design and manufa cture. This paper will draw on new and previous experimental work carried out with supp ort from industry to propose an alternative approach that is enabled by the prod ucts of modern information technology. In this paradigm it is recognised that t he involvement of the human design expert is, for the time being at least, inevi table. Rather than seeking to reduce or even eliminate the " expert" with his or her tacit knowledge, the aim is to provide the expert with interactive to ols including immersive virtual re.l.ty so that implicit, human expertise can be applied effectively in the design cycle. The proposed approach is considered in the context of a particularly costly and difficult task, namely the design and planning for manufacture and assembly of c able harnesses for use in electro-mechanical artefacts. Surgery is required in the vast majority of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) and in approximately one-third of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Similar to medical treatments for IBD, significant advances have occurred in surgery. Advances in CD include an emphasis upon conservatism as exemplified by more.l.mited resections, stricture.l.sties, and laparoscopic resections. The use of probiotics in selected patients has improved the outcome in patients with pouchitis following restorative proctocolectomy for UC. It is anticipated that ongoing discoveries in the molecular basis of IBD will in turn identify those patients who will best respond to surgery.

Cuticular proteins(CPs)are critical components of the insect cuticle and play important roles in maintaining normal insect development and defense against various environmental *** oriental fruit fly(Bactrocera dorsalis)is one of the most destructive pests worldwide,and its eight CPs analogous to peritrophin 3(BdCPAP3)family genes have been identified in our prev ious *** the present study,we further explored the possible roles of CPAP3 genes in *** *** sequence of BdCPAP3 genes contained three conserved ChtBD2(chitin-binding)*** and temporal expression patterns reve.l.d that the four BdCPAP3 genes(BdCPAP3-AI,B,e,and e2)might play important roles in larval pupariation of ***,treatment with a juvenile hormone analog(methoprene)significantly restricted expression of these four CPAP3 genes,whereas treatment with 20-hydroxy-ecdysone induced *** RNA interference(RNAi)results reve.l.d that down-regulated CPAP3 genes led to signif-icant delay of pupariation,and injection of dsBdCPAP3-e into 5-d-old *** larvae caused approximately 40%***,we also confirmed that BdCPAP3-D2 was involved in *** ovarian *** study showed that some specific CP4P3 genes had crucial roles in *** development,and these CP genes could be used as potential targets to control this pest via RNAi.
