Introduction: Access to antiretroviral drugs has improved the survival of children infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). As they reach adolescence, they are confronted with various constraints related to the infection and its treatment, in addition to those of the growth period they are going through. The main aim of the study was to assess the acceptance and describe the experience of HIV infection by infected adolescents but also to investigate the factors associated with good acceptance and a positive experience. Methodology: The cross-sectional analytic study concerned HIV-infected adolescents aged 15 to 19 followed up at the Chantal Biya Foundation-Mother and Child Centre (CMe-FCB) and the Yaoundé University Hospital Centre (CHUY) between February 2020 and June 2020. The study saw participants complete a questionnaire containing socio-demographic data and assessing acceptance and experience with the infection. Data analysis was accomplished using epi info software version 7.***.2.6. Results: One hundred and thirteen HIV-infected adolescents were included in the study. The sex ratio was 0.68 and the mean age was 17 years. More than half of the adolescents had a good acceptance and positive experience with the infection. Related factors were the adolescent’s perception of good health and participation in an association with other infected adolescents. Conclusion: emphasizing the psychological and educational follow-up of infected adolescents and encouraging their participation in associations for adolescents living with HIV could reduce the consequences of poor acceptance and ensure a better transition to adulthood. .

Background:Urogenital schistosomiasis is a parasitic infection of public health importance that affects over 112 million people *** study aimed at assessing the urogenital schistosomiasis prevalence and risk factors of transmission around Mape dam suburds in Malantouen district,West,***:The study was conducted using semi-structured pretested questionnaires to collect socio-demographic and ecological *** samples were also collected and used to confirm the prevalence of schistosomiasis in consented school-aged children in four primary schools between March-July ***’samples around the dam surburbs were also collected for taxonomy characterization and species *** were compiled and quality control assessed and analysed using SPSS version 17 and epiinfo data 3.1.Pered statistical ***:Questionnaires were administered to 229 pupils,with gender ratio of 1.04(m/f).The prevalence of schistosomiasis haematobium was 16.6%.Mambonko school site,which is the closest to the dam suburbs,registered the greatest prevalence rate of 40%.The age group beween 10-13 years was the most infected(18.3%)and boys were more infested than girls(21.0%vs.15.5%).Haematuria,urination pain,school absentiesm and poor performance were the major recorded complications in 39.5 and 26.3%males to female *** rate gender disparity documented is still poorly understood and Bulinus truncatus collected from Mambonko suburb as potential snail intermediate host requires further ***:Authors advocated that schools and dam suburds sustained and innovative community-based surveillance and response targeted interventions implementation are needed to inform and support decisionmaking policy,but also in improving effective contextual behavioural communication changes and MDA improved uptake measures on national schistosomiasis control and elimination in Cameroon.

Rebuilding transformation strategies in post-ebola epidemics in West Africa requires long-term surveillance and strengthening health system preparedness to disease *** paper assesses reconstruction efforts from socio-cultural,economic and ecological transformation response approaches and strategies in improving sustainable survivors and affected communities livelihood and wellbeing.A comprehensive approach is required in the recovery and rebuilding *** in rebuilding transformation requires fostering evidence-based and effective engaging new investors partnership strengthening,financing community-based programmes ownership,novel socio-economic innovations strategies and tools against the evolving and future ebola ***,there should be improved community partnership,health and economic rebuilding programmes to address mistrust and care underutilization,poverty and care access inequity at all *** effective post-ebola national‘One Health’approach coupled with climate change mitigation and adaptations strategies is urgent public health needs aiming at improving the quality healthcare access,delivery trust and uptake in anticipation of eVD immunization program,productivity and emerging economy.

Relationship between Angiogenic and Inflammatory Biomarkers and Diabetic Retinopathy

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus and a major cause of vision loss in the working age population. Its pathogenesis is poorly understood but may involve low grade chronic inflammation and angiogenesis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between serum levels of one inflammatory (IL-6) and angiogenic cytokine (VeGF-A) with the presence and severity of DR in type 2 diabetic mellitus patients. Methods: From January to June 2019, we conducted a cross-sectional analytical study on 84 patients out of which 31 developed DR and 53 did not. All patients underwent complete ophthalmological examination and laboratory analysis for IL-6 and VeGF-A with eLISA Technique. We studied the relation of IL-6 and VeGF-A with the presence and severity of DR, HBA1c, the duration of diabetes. Results: The group with DR had statistically significant higher levels of VeGF-A compared to the control group (390.5 pg/ml vs. 173.1 pg/ml;p = 0.007). There was no significant difference in IL-6 levels between both groups (42.8 pg/ml vs. 31.7 pg/ml;p = 0.10). equally there was no association between these 2 cytokines and macular oedema or with the severity of DR. The level of IL-6 was associated to the balance of diabetes (p = 0.006) although VeGF-A was not (p = 0.15). Moreover, Il-6 (p = 0.31) and VeGF-A (p = 0.24) were not linked to the duration of diabetes. Conclusion: Serum concentrations of VeGF-A have an effect on the development of DR. They correlate with the presence of the disease but IL-6 does not. However, IL-6 was associated to the balance of diabetes. These 2 biomarkers may play a role in the pathophysiology of diabetes and the diabetic retinopathy. Findings on Il-6 and VeGF-A may therefore contribute to the development of the diagnosis tools and caretaking of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy.

Introduction: The management of hypertension is mostly based on pharmacotherapy and hygienic and dietary measures (HDMs) for which little data is available in Cameroon. The concern to improve the quality of life of hypertensive patients led us to study the knowledge, compliance and effect of HDMs among Cameroonian hypertensive patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out at the Douala General Hospital;the census of patients was carried out from 05 March to 10 May 2018. The data evaluated were knowledge and compliance with HDMs with an inference of their effect on blood pressure control. Results: We recruited 330 participants at mean age of 60 ± 11 years, 37.9% men;57.3% with blood pressure (BP) controlled. Out of 330 subjects, 308 (93.3%) who had been educated about dietary health measures for hypertension were assessed on knowledge, compliance and effect of these measures against 22 (6.7%) who had never heard about them. Around 85.7% of participants had good knowledge of HDMs and 78.9% had good compliance with them. There was no statistically significant influence of knowledge and compliance with HDMs on blood pressure control. Conclusion: The level of knowledge and adherence to HDMs of hypertensive patients at the Douala General Hospital was appreciable. It is however appropriate for physicians to intensify patient education on HDMs and BP control.
