The emeishan large igneous province:A synthesis

The late Permian emeishan large igneous province （eL1P） covers -0.3× 10-6 kmL of the western margin of the Yangtze Block and Tibetan Plateau with displaced, correlative units in northern Vietnam （Song Da zone）. The eLIP is of particular interest because it contains numerous world-class base metal deposits and is contemporaneous with the late Capitanian （-260 Ma） mass extinction. The flood basalts are the signature feature of the eLIP but there are also ultramafic and silicic volcanic rocks and layered mafic- ultramafic and silicic plutonic rocks exposed. The eL1P is divided into three nearly concentric zones （i.e. inner, middle and outer） which correspond to progressively thicker crust from the inner to the outer zone. The eruptive age of the eLIP is constrained by geological, paleomagnetic and geochronological evidence to an interval of 〈3 Ma. The presence of picritic rocks and thick piles of flood basalts testifies to high temperature thermal regime however there is uncertainty as to whether these magmas were derived from the subcontinental lithospheric mantle or sub-lithospheric mantle （i.e. asthenosphere or mantle plume） sources or both. The range of Sr （Isr ≈ 0.7040-0.7132）, Nd （eNd（t） ≈ -14 tO ＋8）, Pb （206-pb/204-pb1 ≈ 17.9-20.6） and Os （Yos ≈ -5 to ＋11） isotope values of the ultramafic and mafic rocks does not permit a conclusive answer to ultimate source origin of the primitive rocks but it is clear that some rocks were affected by crustal contamination and the presence of near-depleted isotope compo- sitions suggests that there is a sub-lithospheric mantle component in the system. The silicic rocks are derived by basaltic magmas/rocks through fractional crystallization or partial melting, crustal melting or by interactions between mafic and crustal melts. The formation of the fe-Ti-V oxide-ore deposits is probably due to a combination of fractional crystallization of Ti-rich basalt and fluxing of C02-rich fluids whereas the Ni-Cu-（PGe） deposits are related

Hardening Characteristics of Plain Carbon Steel and Ductile Cast Iron Using Neem Oil as Quenchant

The hardening characteristics of medium carbon steel and ductile cast iron using neem oil as quenching medium has been investigated. The samples were quenched to room temperature in Neem oil. To compare the effectiveness of the neem oil samples were also quenched in water and SAe engine oil the commercial quenchants. The microstructures and mechanical properties of the quenched samples were used to determine the quench severity of the neem oil. The result shows that hardness value of the medium carbon steel increased from 18.30HVN in the as-cast condition to 21.60, 20.30and 20.70HVN while that of ductile cast iron samples increased from 18.90HVN in the as-cast condition to 22.65, 20.30 and 21.30HVN for water, neem oil and SAe40 engine oil respectively. The as-received steel sample gave the highest impact strength value and water quenched sample gave the least impact strength. The impact strength of the medium carbon steel samples is 50.84, 41.35, 30.50 and 45.15 joule and that of ductile iron is 2.71, 1.02, 0.68 and 1.70 joule for as-cast condition, neem oil, water and SAe 40 engine oil quenched respectively. The microstructure of the samples quenched in the Neem oil revealed the formation of martensite. Hence, neem oil can be used where cooling severity less than that of water but greater than SAe 40 engine oil is required for hardening of plain carbon steels and ductile cast iron.

Resonances in the reaction 19f (α ,p) 22Ne have been used to detect and depth profile 19f in solid targets. Incident alpha particles in the range 2100-2500 keV were used and protons were detected at θ=135° with a large solid angle surface barrier detector covered to stop elastically scattered alpha particles. This technique is a simple, nuclide specific probe and is particularly useful in detecting 19f in the presence of heavy elements such as GaAs where conventional Rutherford backscattering is ineffective. examples using this technique on epitaxially grown thin films containing Laf3 layers will be presented.

Throughput maximization in UWB-based ad-hoc networks

In this paper,we study the problem of radio resource allocation,both transmission rates and transmission powers,so as to maximize the throughput of UWB wireless ad-hoc *** analysis is based on the packet-success function(PSf),which is defined as the probability of a data packet being successfully received as a function of the receiver’s signal-to-interference-and-noise-ratio(SINR).We find an optimal link transmission rate,which maximizes the link’s throughput and is dependent on the all active links transmission *** each link transmission rate is adapted to this optimal link transmission rate,then,with single-link operation(i.e.,no other interference sources are present),the link’s throughput is directly proportional to the transmitter’s power and increases indefinitely with increasing transmission ***,with multiplelinks operation and interference each other,as each link transmitting power increases,so does the interference level,and the total network throughput approaches a constant other than ***,for sufficiently small transmission power,the total network throughput of the multiple-links case exceeds the throughput of the single-link case,but the reverse happens for high *** addition,this paper reveals that,as the number of concurrently transmitting links increases,regardless of the power level,the maximal total network throughput approaches a constant,with each link’s throughput approaching *** maximize the network throughput,for the case of small maximal transmission power with weak interference levels,the optimal transmission scheduling allocates simultaneous transmissions of multiple links,but for the case of large maximal transmission power with strong interference levels,the optimal policy assigns separate time for transmission on each *** breakpoint of when to use one link or multiple links is termed the critical *** an example of the analytical calculation of the critical link’s power,we present here so

Tango Controls and data pipeline for petawatt laser experiments

The Centre for Advanced Laser Applications in Garching, Germany, is home to the ATLAS-3000 multi-petawatt laser,dedicated to research on laser particle acceleration and its applications. A control system based on Tango Controls is implemented for both the laser and four experimental areas. The device server approach features high modularity,which, in addition to the hardware control, enables a quick extension of the system and allows for automated data acquisition of the laser parameters and experimental data for each laser shot. In this paper we present an overview of our implementation of the control system, as well as our advances in terms of experimental operation, online supervision and data processing. We also give an outlook on advanced experimental supervision and online data evaluation ± where the data can be processed in a pipeline ± which is being developed on the basis of this infrastructure.
