Interest in renewable energy sources has increased in recent years due to environmental concerns about global warming and air pollution,reduced costs and improved efficiency of *** the european Union（eU）energy directive,biomass is a suitable renewable *** aim of this study was to experimentally quantify and characterize the emission of particulate matter（PM（2.5））resulting from the combustion of two biomass fuels（chipped residual biomass from pine and eucalypt）,in a pilot-scale bubbling fluidized bed（BFB）combustor under distinct operating *** variables evaluated were the stoichiometry and,in the case of eucalypt,the leaching of the *** CO and PM（2.5）emission factors were lower when the stoichiometry used in the experiments was higher（0.33±0.1 g CO/kg and 16.8±1.0 mg PM（2.5）/kg,dry gases）.The treatment of the fuel by leaching before its combustion has shown to promote higher PM（2.5）emissions（55.2±2.5 mg/kg,as burned）.Organic and elemental carbon represented 3.1 to 30 wt.% of the particle mass,while carbonate（CO3^（2-））accounted for between 2.3 and 8.5 wt.%.The particulate mass was mainly composed of inorganic matter（71% to 86% of the PM（2.5）mass）.Compared to residential stoves,BFB combustion generated very high mass fractions of inorganic *** was the water soluble ion in higher concentration in the PM（2.5）emitted by the combustion of eucalypt,while calcium was the dominant water soluble ion in the case of pine.

Catalytic hydrogenation of CO_(2)to ethanol is a promising solution to address the greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,but many current catalysts face efficiency and cost *** based catalysts are frequently examined due to their abundance,cost-efficiency,and effectiveness in the reaction,where managing the Co^(0)to Co^(δ+)ratio is *** this study,we adjusted support nature(Al_(2)O_(3),MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4),and MgO)and reduction conditions to optimize this balance of Co^(0)to Co^(δ+)sites on the catalyst surface,enhancing ethanol *** selectivity of ethanol reached 17.9%in a continuous flow fixed bed micro-reactor over 20 mol%Co@MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)(CoMgAl)catalyst at 270°C and 3.0 MPa,when reduced at 400°C for 8 *** results coupled with activity analysis confirmed that mild reduction condition(400°C,10%H_(2)balance N_(2),8 h)with intermediate metal support interaction favoured the generation of partially reduced Co sites(Co^(δ+)and Co^(0)sites in single atom)over MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)surface,which promoted ethanol synthesis by coupling of dissociative(CHx^(∗))/non-dissociative(CHxO^(∗))intermediates,as confirmed by density functional theory ***,the CoMgAl,affordably prepared through the coprecipitation method,offers a potential alternative for CO_(2)hydrogenation to yield valuable chemicals.

Although many causes of Alzheimer’s disease(Ad)may exist,both the original amyloid cascade and tau hypotheses posit that abnormal misfolding and accumulation of amyloid-β(Aβ)and tau protein is the central event causing the ***,that conclusion could be only partly true,and there is conflicting evidence about the role of both proteins in Ad,being able to precede and influence one *** researchers argue that these proteins are mere executors rather than primary causes of ***,there have been continuing refinements of both hypotheses,with alternative explanations proposed.Aβand tau proteins may be independently involved in specific neurotoxic pathways;yet there may be other crucial processes going on in early ***,accumulating evidence suggests that Aβand tau act synergistically,rather than additively in disease onset(Jeremic et al.,2021,2023a).

Finding the balance: Modifying the cholesterol and steroidal glycoalkaloid synthesis pathway in tomato(Solanum lycopersicum L.) for human health, fruit flavor, and plant defense

Unlike most plants, members of the genus Solanum produce cholesterol and use this as a precursor for steroidal glycoalkaloids. The production of the compounds begins as a branch from brassinosteroid biosynthesis, which produces cholesterol that is further modified to produce steroidal glycoalkaloids. during the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, genetic engineering could alter the formation of cholesterol from provitamin d3(7-dehydrocholesterol) and produce vitamin d3. Cholesterol is a precursor for many steroidal glycoalkaloids, including a-tomatine and esculeoside A. Alpha-tomatine is consumed by mammals and it can reduce cholesterol content and improve LdL:HdL ratio. When there is a high a-tomatine content, the fruit will have a bitter flavor, which together with other steroidal glycoalkaloids serving as protective and defensive compounds for tomato against insect, fungal, and bacterial pests. These compounds also affect the rhizosphere bacteria by recruiting beneficial bacteria. One of the steroidal glycoalkaloids, esculeoside A increases while fruit ripening. This review focuses on recent studies that uncovered key reactions of the production of cholesterol and steroidal glycoalkaloids in tomato connecting to human health, fruit flavor, and plant defense and the potential application for tomato crop improvement.

BACKGROUNd Skeletal muscle alterations(SMAs)are being increasingly recognized in patients with metabolic dysfunctionassociated steatotic liver disease(MASLd)and appear to be associated with deleterious outcomes in these ***,their actual prevalence and pathophysiology remain to be *** To determine the prevalence of SMAs and to assess the significance of circulating myokines as biomarkers in patients with *** Skeletal muscle strength and muscle mass were measured in a cross-sectional study in a cohort of 62 patients fulfilling MASLd criteria,recruited from the outpatient clinics of a tertiary level *** degree of fibrosis and liver steatosis was studied using abdominal ultrasound and transitional *** and metabolic characteristics as well as serum levels of different myokines were also determined in the MASLd *** analysis was performed comparing results according to liver fibrosis and *** No significant differences were found in both skeletal muscle strength and skeletal muscle mass in patients with MASLd between different stages of liver ***,serum levels of fibroblast growth factor-21(FGF21)were significantly higher in patients with MASLd with advanced hepatic fibrosis(F3-F4)than in those with lower fibrosis stages(F0-F2)(197.49±198.27 pg/mL vs 95.62±83.67 pg/mL;P=0.049).In addition,patients with MASLd with severe hepatosteatosis(S3)exhibited significantly higher serum levels of irisin(1116.87±1161.86 pg/mL)than those with lower grades(S1-S2)(385.21±375.98 pg/mL;P=0.001).CONCLUSION SMAs were uncommon in the patients with MASLd *** serum levels of irisin and FGF21 were detected in patients with advanced liver steatosis and fibrosis,respectively,with potential implications as biomarkers.
