Role of forests in headwater control with changing environment and society

Forest practices in headwater catchments are related to environmental and social *** aim of this study is to analyse the changing protective functions of forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.(North Bohemia,Czech Republic)since the second half of the 19th *** time,forests have gradually changed from native stands to spruce plantations(Picea abies),introducing exotic conifers(more resistant to air pollution),and,recently,back to more diverse mixed *** priority in pro-tective forest functions there shifted from flood protection to integrated control of water resources(quantity and quality).In the 1980s,forest-water interactions were degraded by consequences of extreme acid atmospheric deposition,forest die-back,and extensive *** the Jizerka catchment,first signs of recovery were observed in the early *** waters there are still affected by prolonged *** reconstruction of stream water chemistry at Jizerka follows the drop of the acid deposition in some 5 years,the revival of stream biota takes 10-15 *** 2071-2100,the pro-jected climate change shows rising annual air temperatures by 3.0-4.6℃,decreasing water yield by 65-123 mm,60%drop in'minimum residual discharge',and 20-30%rise in ***,these projected environmental changes cannot substantially decline the high potential in water resource recharge,or,start reverse processes in recent recovery from acidification and radically affect the exis-tence of planned mixed forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.

This study considers a principal possibility of creating a nuclear light source of the vacuum ultra violet(VUV) range based on the ^(229)Th *** nuclear light source can help solve two main problems—excitation of the low-lying^(229m)Th isomer and precision measurement of the nuclear isomeric transition *** thorium nuclear light source is based on the nuclei implanted in a thin dielectric film with a large *** passing an electric current through the sample,the^(229)Th nuclei are excited to the low energy isomeric state 3/2^(+)(8.19±0.12ev) through the process of inelastic scattering of conduction *** subsequent spontaneous decay of^(229m)Th is followed by the emission of γ quanta in the VUV *** luminosity of the thorium nuclear light source is approximately 10^(5)photons/s per 1 A of current,per 1 ng of^(229)*** suggested scheme to obtain γ radiation from the^(229m)Th isomer can be considered as a type of nuclear analogue of the optical radiation from the usual metal-insulator-semiconductor(MIS) junction.

effect of Polymer Chain Regularity on the Photovoltaic Performance of Organic Solar Cells

In this work,regio-regular and random polymers(reg-PTF and ran-PTF)comprising benzodithiophene and 3-fluorothiophene units are developed to investigate the influence of polymer chain regularity on the photovoltaic ***,reg-PTF exhibits higher HOMO energy level(∼0.2 ev)than that of ran-PTF due to the more ordered molecular structure and higher *** the result,the HOMO energy level offset between donor and acceptor can be well controlled by selecting different *** BTP-ec9-4F with a much deep HOMO energy level as acceptor,reg-PTF-based devices display an inferior PCe of 7.66%compared with ran-PTF based ones(11.78%)due to the too large HOMO energy levels *** blending with Y18-1F,the PCe of reg-PTF-based devices is increased to 13.23%due to the appropriate energy *** comparison,the ran-PTF-based devices nearly do not work because of the negative HOMO energy levels *** work indicates that both the polymer chain regularity and the energy level offset between the donor and acceptor material are important to the performance of organic solar cells.

Leptospirosis distribution related to freshwater habitats in the Vojvodina region (Republic of Serbia)

The retrospective study (2002-2007) for human leptospirosis in Vojvodina was undertaken in order to describe the distribution of the disease in relation with some environmental factors. Regarding the presented results, the major detected number of leptospirosis cases concurs with stagnant waters, wetlands, fish pond areas and protected regions, which comprised the basis for mapping of the region in three risk zones: very high risk (incidence rate higher than 5.0), high risk (2.5-5.0) and medium risk of leptospirosis infection (1.0-2.5). During the investigated period, 97 cases were registered with an average of 13.85 cases per year: 2002, 32 cases; 2003, 7; 2004, 22; 2005, 16; 2006, 4 and 2007, 16. Out of these 97 cases only 5 were women. Serovars from 11 presumptive serogroups caused infection, with a predominance of Icterohaemorrhagiae and Bratislava, accounting for 72.72% of cases together. Icterohaemorrhagiae was the commonest infecting serogroup mostly connected with fish ponds. Case fatality ratio was 9.4%.
