The.de.cription of various me.hods for e.hnicity classification can be.found in the.lite.ature. though the.r re.iability still re.ains uncle.r. We.e.amine. inte.-obse.ve. agre.me.t in de.ining the.e.hnic ide.tification of patie.ts in a bi-e.hnic population (Arab-Je.ish) in northe.n Israe., using place.of birth and re.ide.ce.in addition to give. and family name.. Data about 1006 conse.utive.patie.ts with acute.ische.ic stroke.we.e.gathe.e. from our stroke.re.istry. The.data we.e.analyze. by four inde.e.de.t obse.ve.s (authors MH, TD, HH, GT) aiming to assign patie.ts e.the. as Arabs or Je.s. Agre.me.t be.we.n all four obse.ve.s was e.ce.le.t, as asse.se. by Fle.ss’ Kappa statistic (κ = 0.96). We.conclude.that the.use.of give. and family name. of patie.ts, toge.he. with the.r place.of birth and re.ide.ce. achie.e. ne.r-pe.fe.t inte.-obse.ve. agre.me.t and a highly re.iable.assignme.t of e.hnicity in two large.e.hnic population groups–Arabs and Je.s–in northe.n Israe..
