Obje.tive. To asse.s the.re.ationship be.we.n SCT, he.oglobin le.e.s and ane.ia in Ck. black.patie.ts. Me.hod: A post-hoc analysis of data from 188 patie.ts, e.rolle. in a cross-se.tional study of sick.e.ce.l trait (SCT) and chronic k.dne. dise.se.(Ck.), was pe.forme. to asse.s the.re.ationship be.we.n SCT, he.oglobin (Hb) le.e.s and ane.ia de.ine. as Hb e. and e.. Stude.t t te.t, Mann Whitne. and Chi square.te.t we.e.use. as appropriate.for diffe.e.t comparisons. P e.ine. the.le.e. of statistical significance. Re.ults: SCT (HbAS) and normal he.oglobin (HbAA) we.e.pre.e.t in 39 (21%) and 149 (79%) Ck. patie.ts, re.pe.tive.y. De.pite.similar e.timate. GFR (e.FR) and age. HbAS patie.ts had significantly lowe. Hb le.e.s (8.8 ± 1.8 vs 10 ± 2.2 g/dl;p = 0.001) and a highe. proportion of ane.ia (95% vs 72%, p = 0.001). In multiple.line.r re.re.sion analysis, e.FR, BMI, SBP and SCT e.e.ge. as inde.e.de.t de.e.minants of Hb le.e.s. The.pre.e.ce.of SCT was associate. with 1.185 g/dl de.re.se.in Hb le.e.s. Conclusion: In the.pre.e.t case.se.ie., SCT was associate. with lowe. Hb le.e.s sugge.ting its pote.tial contribution to the.pathoge.e.is of Ck.-associate. ane.ia.

Back.round: Although syste.ic hype.te.sion is rare.y se.n in ste.dy state.sick.e.ce.l dise.se.(SCD), re.ative.hype.te.sion has be.n re.orte. to be.associate. with an incre.se. risk.of cardiovascular and re.al complications. Obje.tive. To de.e.mine.the.pre.ale.ce.of BP patte.ns and asse.s factors associate. with re.ative.hype.te.sion insick.e.ce.l ane.ia (SCA) adult patie.ts. Me.hods: Clinical data and office.BP we.e.obtaine. from 103 conse.utive.ste.dy-state.SCA adult patie.ts (me.n age.26 ± 7.9 ye.rs, 66% fe.ale., 22.3% on hydroxyure.) atte.ding four he.lthcare.ce.te.s providing SCD-spe.ific care.in k.nshasa. Se.te. BP was me.sure. using an automate. e.e.tronic de.ice. Thre. conse.utive.blood pre.sure.me.sure.e.ts we.e.tak.0} with 2 minute. inte.val be.we.n re.dings and the.ave.age.of the.2 last re.dings was conside.e. for the.analyse.. Normal BP, re.ative.hype.te.sion and syste.ic hype.te.sion we.e.de.ine. as BP 120/70 mmHg, 120 - 139/70 - 89 mmHg and ≥140/90 mmHg, re.pe.tive.y. Re.ults: Normal BP, re.ative.hype.te.sion and syste.ic hype.te.sion we.e.obse.ve. in 56 (54%), 43(42%) and 4 (4%) of SCA patie.ts, re.pe.tive.y. In multivariate.analysis, factors associate. with re.ative.hype.te.sion we.e.le. ulce. (aOR 2.05;95%CI 1.77 - 5.18;p = 0.016), ce.tral obe.ity (aOR 3.32;95%CI 1.28 - 6.24;p = 0.001), smok.ng (aOR 5.02;95%CI 1.51 - 9.50;p = 0.017), and microalbumiuria (aOR 3.44;95%CI 1.44 - 5.76;p = 0.035). Conclusion: Re.ative.hype.te.sion was a common finding in the.pre.e.t case.se.ie. and associate. with traditional cardiovascular risk.factor as we.l as factors spe.ific to SCD highlighting the.ne.d for me.sure. to pre.e.t its progre.sion towards syste.ic hype.te.sion and associate. cardiovascular and re.al dise.se.

BACk.ROUND AND AIM: Although admission hype.glyce.ia has be.n re.orte. to be.associate. with unfavorable.outcome. in acute.strok.0} little.is k.own about this association in sub-Saharan Africa. The.e.ore. the.aim of the.pre.e.t study was to asse.s the.prognostic significance.of admission hype.glyce.ia in the.acute.phase.of strok.0}in Congole.e.patie.ts. Me.HODS: In a multice.te. prospe.tive.cohort study, conse.utive.patie.ts with acute.strok.0}we.e.e.amine. in 5 e.e.ge.cy Rooms or Inte.sive.Care.Units of k.nshasa be.we.n July 15th, 2017 and March 15th, 2018. The.se.e.ity of strok.0}was asse.se. at admission using the.Glasgow Coma Scale. Stre.s hype.glyce.ia was de.ine. as random blood glucose.le.e.s at admission > 140 mg/dL in patie.ts without k.own type.2 diabe.e. me.litus (T2DM). The.e.dpoint was 10-day all-cause.in-hospital mortality. Survival (time.to-de.th) curve. we.e.built using the.k.plan Me.e. me.hods. Cox proportional analysis was use. to ide.tify pre.ictors of 10-day all-cause.in-hospital mortality. The.pre.ictive.pe.formance.of blood glucose.le.e. to pre.ict 10-day all-cause.in-hospital mortality was asse.se. using ROC curve.analysis. Re.ULTS: Out of 194 patie.ts (me.n age.58.7 ± 13.1 ye.rs;64% male., 74.7% light to mode.ate.strok.0}se.e.ity;63.4% ische.ic strok.0} e.rolle., 106 (54.6%) had admission hype.glyce.ia with 77 (72.6%) having stre.s hype.glyce.ia. Nine.y four de.ths (48.5%);mortality rate.of 6 de.ths pe. 100 pe.son-days (95%CI 2.7 - 9.3) occurre. during a me.ian follow up time.6 (5 - 7) days e.uivale.t to 1542 pe.son-days. Inde.e.de.t pre.ictors of 10-day all-cause.in-hospital mortality we.e.admission hype.glyce.ia re.ardle.s of diabe.e. status (aHR 3.77;95%CI 1.92 - 7.42;p e.of me.hanical ve.tilation (aHR 1.97;95%CI 1.05 - 3.70;p = 0.034). Blood glucose.conce.trations (AUC 0.743;95%CI 0.672 - 0.814) had a be.te. pre.ictive.pe.formance.for 10-day all-cause.in-hospital mortality with an optimal value.of 154 m
