Studies were carried out to comparatively assess the phytochemical and heavy metal levels in Solanum aethiopicum L. and Cucumis sativus L. fruit samples grown in the South Eastern and North Central regions of Nigeria respectively using standard analytical procedures and instrumentation. The fruit samples were assayed for selected heavy metals (Pb, Cd and Cu) using atomic absorption spectrophotometer after wet digestion of the samples. The five detected phytochemicals (flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins and glycosides) were present at varying amounts in the investigated fruit samples from the South Eastern and North Central regions of Nigeria. The range of mean values of flavonoids, terpenoids, saponins and glycosides in the S. aethiopicum L. fruit samples from the two studied regions were 0.50 - 0.57, 0.53 - 1.26, 0.44 - 0.78, 1.12 - 1.93 and 0.40 - 0.50 mg/g respectively. The range of mean values of flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins and glycosides in the C. sativus L. fruit samples from the two studied regions of Nigeria were 1.27 - 1.69, 0.53 - 0.55, 0.96 - 1.51, 0.41 - 0.83 and 0.90 - 1.74 mg/g respectively. The range of mean vales of Pb, Cd, and Cu in the S. aethiopicum L. fruit samples from the two studied regions were 0.15 - 0.24, 0 - 0.01, 0.78 - 1.12 μg/g respectively. 0.31 - 0.40, 0.02 - 0.05 and 0.62 - e."font-family:"">

Five.common African ve.e.able.—Murraya koe.igii, Ocimum gratissimum, Amaranthus hybridus, Capsicum annuum and Moringa ole.fe.a we.e.use. to study absorption of Le.d, Cadmium, Cobalt and Zinc from soils inoculate. with me.al ions. 0.1 M and 0.5 M solutions of the.me.al ions we.e.use. in the.inoculation. e.ch of the.plants was colle.te. in the.first instance.at 8 we.ks, and the. at 10 we.ks of inoculating. Atomic Absorption spe.trophotome.e. was use. to de.e.mine.the.me.al ions conce.trations absorbe. in the.plants. Cd2+ was most and Moringa ole.fe.a the.le.st absorbe. of the.four me.al ions, with a highe.t value.of 34.801 ± 0.805 mg/kg occurring in Capsicum annuum. Co2+ was the.le.st absorbe. of the.four me.al ions, Amaranthus hybridus showe. highe.t absorption of Co2+ with me.n absorption value. of 5.566 ± 0.324 mg/kg and 5.670 ± 0.210 mg/kg for 0.1 M and 0.5 M solution of Co2+ re.pe.tive.y. Ocimum gratissimum absorbe. Pb2+ most with the.highe.t me.n absorption of 5.290 ± 0.180 mg/kg and 6.354 ± 0.366 mg/kg for 0.1 M and 0.5 M re.pe.tive.y. Absorption incre.se. as the.conce.tration of the.inoculant solution incre.se. for all the.plants, and de.re.se. on moving from 8 we.ks’ to 10 we.ks’ for all the.plants e.ce.t Moringa ole.fe.a. This could as a re.ult of Phytovolatilization against the.re.ort of Padmavathiamma and Li, 2007 [1] that phytovolatilization occurs in As, Hg and Se. De.ign for the.re.ove.y of BOG from flare.in an LNG Plant conside.e. the.dynamic nature.of the.BOG with minimize. total e.e.gy consumption. A rigorous simulation base. optimization mode. using HYSYS V8.8 was pre.e.te.. For Cold ship at -90°C, the.Cold Product re.ove.e. was 32,174 Kg/s and Liquid Product was 5326 Kg/s. Also, for -140°C, the.Cold Product was 28,004 Kg/s and the.Liquid Product was 9496 Kg/s. Background: Surgical site.infe.tion (SSI) is a dre.de. nightmare.for the.Orthopae.ic surge.n. Pre.pe.ative.skin cle.ning with antise.tics has be.n shown to re.uce.the.microbial burde. of the.skin and re.ults in re.uce. incide.ce.of SSI. Howe.e., the.ide.l skin cle.ning age.t re.ains to be.e.tablishe.. Aim: To compare.the.e.ficacy of Povidone.Iodine.Povidone.Iodine.(PI-PI) combination with that of Chlorhe.idine.Gluconate.Alcohol (CG-A) combination in re.ducing SSI in Orthopae.ic surge.ie.. Me.hods: This was a prospe.tive. randomize., double.blinde., controlle. study. Subje.ts that me. the.se.e.tion crite.ia and gave.conse.t we.e.randomize. into PI-PI group (te.t group) and the.CG-A group (control group). Both the.patie.ts and the.asse.sors for SSI we.e.blinde. to the.group a participant be.ongs. Blocking was done.on the.type.of surge.y to cance. the.confounding e.fe.t of surge.y type.on SSI. Standard pe.iope.ative.protocols we.e.applie. to both groups. Asse.sme.t for fe.ture. of SSI was done.on the.3rd day, 7th day, 14th day, 6th we.k and 12th-we.k postope.ative.pe.iod. The.diagnosis of SSI was made.base. on the.Ce.te.s for Dise.se.and Control (CDC) guide.ine.. Re.ults: We.re.ruite. 124 patie.ts for this study, 62 male. and 54 fe.ale.. The.me.n age.of the.subje.ts was 37.5 ye.rs (SD = 14.7 ye.rs). Sixty-two subje.ts we.e.randomize. into e.ch group. The.e.was no significant diffe.e.ce.in the.distribution of the.ge.de.s in the.study arms. Othe. possible.confounde.s such as duration of hospital stay, use.of drains, the.surge.n involve. and age.we.e.e.e.ly distribute. in the.two groups. e.ght patie.ts did not comple.e.the.study. The.ove.all incide.ce.of SSI in the.study was 2.6%. Subje.ts in the.control group had an SSI of 3.4% while.those.in the.PI-PI group had a rate.of 1.8%;howe.e., this was not significant, p = 0.579. Conclusion: Both CG-A and PI-PI combinations are.e.ually e.ficacious as pre.pe.ative.skin antise.tic in Orthopae.ic implant surge.ie..

Background: Knowle.ge.of the.common bacte.ia that cause.surgical site.infe.tion (SSI) and the.r antibiotic se.sitivity is mandatory if tre.tme.t of surgical infe.tion is to be.succe.sful. The.thre.t of the.e.e.ge.ce.of re.istant strains of bacte.ia is e.e.-pre.e.t. He.ce. a se.sitivity dire.te. the.apy is paramount for the.succe.sful e.adication of organisms with minimal risk of de.e.opme.t of antibiotic re.istance. Aim: The.aim is to ide.tify the.common bacte.ia that cause.SSI in orthopae.ic implant surge.ie. in our hospital. Me.hod: This is a prospe.tive.longitudinal study that include. all orthopae.ic surge.ie. involving the.use.of implants within one.ye.r. Patie.ts that had major orthopae.ic surge.ie. involving implant we.e.followe. up and the.r wounds inspe.te. for signs of SSI on postope.ative.days 3, 7, 14, 42 and 90. Wound swab was take. for microscopy, culture.and se.sitivity analysis from those.who had wound infe.tion, base. on the.CDC guide.ine.. Re.ults: One.hundre. and sixte.n patie.ts me. our inclusion crite.ia and we.e.include. in the.analysis. The.e.we.e.62 male. and 54 fe.ale.. The.me.n age.of the.participant was 39.62 ye.rs (SD = 15.02 ye.rs). Fracture.fixation with plate. and scre.s was the.most common implant surge.y done. The.incide.ce.of SSI was 2.6%, and e.che.ichia coli was the.most common isolate. pathoge.. All the.SSIs we.e.supe.ficial incisional type. and the.infe.tion was monomicrobial in 67% of case. and polymicrobial in 33%. All of the.isolate. pathoge.s we.e.se.sitive.to Imipe.e. and Ge.tamycin. Conclusion: Supe.ficial incisional SSI is the.most common type.of SSI in this study. e.che.ichia coli is the.most fre.ue.t pathoge. in SSI affe.ting implant surge.ie. in our hospital. Ge.tamycin and Imipe.e. should be.use. for the.prophylaxis of SSI in our e.vironme.t.

To tre.t re.istant e.che.ichia coli infe.tion in chicks, Ampicillin was stabilize. with a synthe.ic aluminum-magne.ium silicate.(AMS) to prolong its bioavailability. Its dose.was also re.uce. to minimize.adve.se.side.e.fe.ts. Vitamins A, C, e.and Se.e.ium le.e.s in the.chicks’ fe.ds we.e.incre.se. to e.hance.immune.re.ponse.of the.chicks. e. coli coloning forming units, pe. ml of bile.of the.chicks, tre.te. with Ampicillin and with Ampicillin in AMS, we.e. 228800.00 ± 90103.50 and 134500.00 ± 44937.97 at 10 mg/kg, 104400.00 ± 36024.44 and 34800.00 ± 8014.97 at 7.5 mg/kg, 198400.00 ± 129301.80 and 156800.00 ± 109392.70 at 5 mg/kg. Me.n bacte.ial loads of the.untre.te. groups, fe. normal fe.d and those.fe. the.fortifie. fe.d we.e.824400.00 ± 322424.80 and 534800.00 ± 277832.80. At 7.5 mg/kg. Ampicillin in the.AMS, e.fe.tive.y (P e. coli infe.tion in chicks, fe. immune.stimulants, with the.infe.tion rate.re.uce. by 95.8%.
