Background: Bre.st cance. is the.most common cance. in the.world, as we.l as in Came.oon, whe.e.it re.re.e.ts about 20.1% of all cance.s re.orde. in 2020. The.numbe. of pathologists in the.country is as fe. as se.e. for a population of about 26 million. The.diagnostic pe.formance. of diagnostic modalitie. othe. than histology—clinical bre.st e.amination (CBe., imaging and fine.ne.dle.aspiration and cytology (FNA)—in our conte.t are.not known. Study Obje.tive.: Our obje.tive. we.e.to e.timate.the.proportions of case. manage. with mammography, bre.st ultrasound and FNA and to e.timate.the.se.sitivity, spe.ificity, positive.and ne.ative.pre.ictive.value., and accuracy of CBe. mammography, bre.st ultrasound and FNA;using histology as re.e.e.ce. Study Me.hodology: The.study was cross-se.tional and analytical, and was carrie. out at the.Yaoundé Ge.e.al Hospital. It laste. twe.ve.months, April 2015 through March 2016 and cove.e. the.pe.iod January 2010 to Fe.ruary 2016. Using histology as re.e.e.ce. we.calculate. me.sure. of diagnostic accuracy for all four modalitie. using the.statistical me.hods of Gale. and Gambino. Re.ults: We.re.ruite. 107 case., 105 fe.ale. (98.1%) and 02 male.. We.had 112 bre.st lumps, 106 malignant (94.6%) and 6 be.ign. The.me.n lump size.was 61.1 mm. The.most fre.ue.tly use. diagnostic tool afte. CBe.was FNA (49.1%), while.the.diagnostic accuracie. we.e.76.8%, 79.1%, 82.9%, and 82.0% for CBe. bre.st US, mammography and FNA. Conclusion: The.four base.ine.diagnostic modalitie. for bre.st cance. are.use. sub-optimally and FNA appe.rs to be.the.most commonly use. in our se.ting afte. CBe. We.re.omme.d that FNA should be.conside.e. for diagnosis as appropriate.but a ne.ative.re.ult should not stop the.que.t for histological e.imination of pre.e.ce.of malignancy.
