Variation of Physiochemical Components of Acid Lime (<i>Citrus aurantifolia</i>Swingle) Fruits at Different Sides of the Tree in Nepal

Acid Lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) is one of the important commercial fruits cultivated from terai to high hill of Nepal. It is an important source of vitamin “C” (ascorbic acid) for human nutrition. Amount of juice, TSS (Total soluble solids), TA (Titrable acid) and vitamin C are the determining factors of quality of acid lime fruits which may vary according to bearing sides of the trees. The main objective of this study is, to determine the variation of fruit quality at different sides of the tree. Total of 15 bearing trees were selected randomly (5 trees per site) from three different agro ecological domain representing terai (1200 m asl) and samples were collected from the selected trees. Randomly ten fruits (from east, west, centre, north and south sides) were collected from each tree and analyzed for amount of vitamin C, TSS, TA and juice. Highest ascorbic acid 79.6 mg and 69.9 mg was observed in south side fruits whereas lowest 62.8 mg and 55.1 mg was observed in centre fruits in the high and mid hills zone respectively, but in terai, highest ascorbic acid 58.7 mg was observed in north side and lowest 41.8 mg was observed in centre. Highest amount of juice 43.9% was observed in south side fruits and lowest 36.6% in centre fruits, but amount of TSS 8.2% and TA 7.2% was observed in south side fruits and lowest 7.3% TSS and 7.0% TA was observed in centre fruits in high hills. In terai highest TSS 8.3% and TA 7.4% was observed in north side fruits and lowest TSS 7.3% and TA 6.7% was observed in centre fruits. Variation of TSS, TA percent and ascorbic acids was observed according to the agro ecological zone.

LDF based parametric optimization to model fluidized bed adsorption of trichloroethylene on activated carbon particles

Trichloroethylene(TCE)is largely used in industries as a cleaning and degreasing *** is a potential carcinogen and is known to cause organ damage when exposed to prolonged higher *** simulation of fixed and fluidized bed adsorption of TCE can help in the development of efficient adsorption processes to prevent industrial workers in the vicinity from acute TCE *** the present work,a parametric optimization based numerical experimentation algorithm is implemented by open-source computational solvers to model fixed and fluidized bed adsorption of trichloroethylene vapors on activated *** algorithm optimizes four parameters pertaining to linear driving force(LDF)formulation of surface barrier and microporous *** optimized parameters were utilized to evaluateζ,a dimensionless number defined as the temporal and spatial average ratio of surface barrier diffusion resistance to microporous diffusion *** average value ofζis 0.139 for fixed bed operation(u/u_(mf)=0.7),1.130 for fluidized bed operation(u/u_(mf)=1),4.436 for fluidized bed operation(u/u_(mf)=1.5)and 6.317 for fluidized bed operation(u/u_(mf)=2).Therefore,the dimensionless numberζmay serve to predict the extent of change in amount adsorbed per unit adsorbent mass with change in fluidization velocity.

Herbal Medicine in Ischemic Stroke:Challenges and Prospective

Herbal medicines, mainly of plant source, are invaluable source for the discovery of new therapeutic agents for all sorts of human ailments. The complex pathogenesis of stroke and multifactorial effect of herbal medicine and their active constituents may suggest the promising future of natural medicine for stroke treatment. Anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, neuroprotective and vascular protective effect of herbal medicines are believed to be efficacious in stroke treatment. Herbs typically have fewer reported side effects than allopathic medicine, and may be safer to use over longer period of time. Herbal medicines are believed to be more effective for the longstanding health complaints, such as stroke. Several medicinal plants and their active constituents show the promising results in laboratory research. However failure in transformation of laboratory animal research to the clinical trials has created huge challenge for the use of herbal medicine in stroke. Until and unless scientifically comprehensive evidence of the efficacy and safety of herbal medicine in ischemic stroke patients is available, efforts should be made to continue implementing treatment strategies of proven effectiveness. More consideration should be paid to natural compounds that can have extensive therapeutic time windows, perfect pharmacological targets with few side effects. Herbal medicine has excellent prospective for the treatment of ischemic stroke, but a lot of effort should be invested to transform the success of animal research to human use.

Fractional Wavelet Packet Transformations Involving Hankel–Clifford Integral Transformations

In this paper, we introduce the fractional wavelet transformations （FrWT） involving Han- kel-Clifford integral transformation （HCIIT） on the positive half line and studied some of its basic properties. Also we obtain Parseval＇s relation and an inversion formula. Examples of fractional powers of Hankel-Clifford integral transformation （FrHClIT） and FrWT are given. Then, we introduce the concept of fractional wavelet packet transformations FrBWPT and FrWPIT, and investigate their properties.

Dielectric and impedance properties of sintered magnesium aluminum silicate glass-ceramic

Magnesium aluminum silicate(MgO-Al_(2)O_(3)-SiO_(2),MAS)glass-ceramic was prepared via sintering route.X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis indicates the formation of multiphase compound with magnesium silicate fluoride and cordierite as major *** studies of the compound shows a strong frequency dispersion of permittivity in the low frequency region followed by a nearly frequency-independent behavior in the high frequency *** presence of alkali ions(K+)in MAS glass-ceramic results in higher dielectric constant and higher *** loss(tanδ)seems to be reduced at higher frequencies after reaching the instrumental saturation at 1 *** properties of the material have been studied using a complex impedance spectroscopy(CIS)technique in a wide temperature(30-500℃)and frequency(100 Hz-5 MHz)*** complex impedance plots reveal the contribution of bulk as well as grain boundary effects in *** bulk resistance,evaluated from complex impedance spectrum,has been observed to decrease with the rise in temperature,showing a typical negative temperature coefficient of resistance(NTCR)*** smaller activation energy(Ea)of the compound within moderate temperature range suggests the presence of ions(K^(+)and F^(-))and singly ionized oxygen vacancies in the conduction *** nature of variation of the electrical conductivity,and the values of activation energy of different temperature regions,suggest that the conduction process is of mixed type.

The objective of this study is to identify system parameters from the recorded response of base isolated buildings,such as USC hospital building,during the 1994 Northridge *** state measurements are not available for ***,the response is nonlinear due to the yielding of the lead-rubber *** new approaches are presented in this paper to solve the aforementioned ***,a reduced order observer is used to estimate the unmeasured ***,a least squares technique with time segments is developed to identify the piece-wise linear system *** observer is used to estimate the initial conditions needed for the time segmented identification.A series of equivalent linear system parameters are identified in different time *** is shown that the change in system parameters,such as frequencies and damping ratios,due to nonlinear behavior of the lead-rubber bearings,are reliably estimated using the presented *** is shown that the response was reduced due to yielding of the lead-rubber bearings and period lengthening.

Stability assessment of landslide-prone road cut rock slopes in Himalayan terrain:A finite element method based approach

Large-scale slope destabilization could be aggravated due to swift urbanization and ever-rising demands of geoengineering projects such as dams,tunnels,bridges and widening *** Highway-58 connects Delhi to Badrinath in India,which passes through complex geomorphological and geological terrain and often encounters cut slopes susceptible to slope *** the present investigation,a detailed geotechnical appraisal is conducted along the road cut slopes from Rishikesh to Devprayag in the *** vulnerable road cut slopes were demarcated for detailed slope stability analysis using Phase2D finite element modeling *** generalized Hoek-Brown(GHB)criterion was adopted for stability *** of 20 slopes,five slopes(S6,S7,S18,S19 and S20)are unstable with factor of safety(FoS)less than or equal to 1,and thus needs immediate *** FoS values of four slopes(S2,S9,S13 and S17)lie between 1 and 1.3,*** stable,and slopes S1,S3,S4,S5,S8,S10,Sll,S12,S14,S15 and S16 are ***-Coulomb(MC)criterion was also adopted to compare the slope stability analysis with GHB *** FoS calculated from GHB criterion is close to that using MC criterion for lower values of FoS whereas for higher values,the difference is *** the jointed rock in the Himalayan region,the nonlinear GHB criterion gives better results as compared to MC criterion and matches with the prevailing field ***,some suggestions are proposed to strengthen the stability of cut slopes.

This article is concerned with the study of pseudo-differential operators associated with fractional Hankel transform. The product of two fractional pseudo-differential operators is defined and investigated its basic properties on some function space. It is shown that the pseudo-differential operators and their products are bounded in Sobolev type spaces. Particular cases are discussed.

To estimate the required support pressure for stability of circular tunnels in two layered clay under undrained condition,numerical solutions are developed by performing finite element lower bound limit analysis in conjunction with second-order cone *** support system is assumed to offer uniform internal compressive pressure on its *** the literature,it is known that the stability of tunnels depends on the overburden pressure acting over it,which is a function of undrained cohesion and unit weight of soil,and cover of *** a tunnel is constructed in layered undrained clay,the stability depends on the undrained shear strength,unit weight,and thickness of one layer relative to the other *** the present study,the solutions are presented in a form of dimensionless charts which can be used for design of tunnel support systems for different combinations of ratios of unit weight and undrained shear strength of upper layer to those of lower layer,thickness of both layers,and total soil cover depth.

Nodule study in Albizia chinensis in relation to nitrogen metabolism,morphology and biomass

Morphology,biomass,nitrate reductase(NR)and nitrogenase activity in Albizia chinensis(Osb.)*** were assessed on monthly and seasonal basis for 1 *** NR and nitrogenase activity was higher during the rainy season,reaching a maximum in ***,activity decreased through autumn and reached a minimum value during *** and dry biomass of nodules increased gradually from summer to the rainy season and then started decreasing with the onset of winter as nodules began to *** four developmental stages of the nodules that correspond to their increasing age,NR and nitrogenase activity remained low in stage 1 nodules and peaked in stage *** activity of both enzymes further decreased with increasing age(stage 2 to stage 4).Morphological features such as shape,diameter and color varied considerably among the developmental *** 1 nodules were cream-colored,oval to heartshaped with smallest average diameter whereas at stage 2,they became bilobed to *** the other hand,stage 3 nodules had the largest average diameter and were multilobed in *** 4 nodules that correspond to the senescing stage were dark brown to black,multilobed,flattened and hollow due to degeneration of nodular tissue.
