Aloin ameliorates cecal ligation and puncture-induced sepsis in mice by attenuating inflammation and modulating gut microbiota

Most Aloe species are used as new food or functional food ingredient. Even though widely known for its health benefits， the anti-inflammatory effects and underlying mechanisms of Aloin (Alo)， an anthraquinone compound isolated from plant species of the genus Aloe， remain unidentified. Here， we investigated the protective effects of Alo against cecal ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced sepsis and microflora in mice. Alo significantly improved CLP-induced sepsis and the survival rate of septic mice， downregulated the expression of proinflammatory factors， and decreased the infiltration of inflammatory cells in tissues. Alo upregulated the proportion of peritoneal macrophages， reduced the number of peritoneal bacteria， decreased the content of short-chain fatty acids and bile acids in the abdominal cavity， and suppressed TLR-2/4/NF-κB/NLRP3/Caspase-1/3/8 signaling. Furthermore， Alo altered the composition of the microbiome and promoted the growth of Lactobacillus， which showed a stronger anti-inflammatory effect. Whole-genome analysis identified the genes Saa3， Il10， Fpr1， and Eif4a1 associated with the protective effects of Alo in mice with CLP-induced sepsis. Overall， our results provide novel insights into the therapeutic potential and mechanism of action of Alo in the treatment of sepsis.

In Situ Reaction Fabrication of a Mixed-Ion/Electron-Conducting Skeleton Toward Stable Lithium Metal Anodes

Lithium metal batteries are emerging as a strong candidate in the future energy storage market due to its extremely high energy density.However,the uncontrollable lithium dendrites and volume change of lithium metal anodes severely hinder its application.In this work,the porous Cu skeleton modified with Cu_(6)Sn_(5)layer is prepared via dealloying brass foil following a facile electroless process.The porous Cu skeleton with large specific surface area and high electronic conductivity effectively reduces the local current density.The Cu_(6)Sn_(5)can react with lithium during the discharge process to form lithiophilic Li_(7)Sn_(2)in situ to promote Li-ions transport and reduce the nucleation energy barrier of lithium to guide the uniform lithium deposition.Therefore,more than 300 cycles at 1 mA cm^(−2)are achieved in the half-cell with an average Coulombic efficiency of 97.5%.The symmetric cell shows a superior cycle life of more than 1000 h at 1 mA cm^(−2)with a small average hysteresis voltage of 16 mV.When coupled with LiFePO_(4)cathode,the full cell also maintains excellent cycling and rate performance.

With the advantages of high sensitivity,rapid response,label-free,and simple operation,field effect transistor biosensors have shown promising application prospects in large-scale pathogen screening.However,in practical biological fluids with relatively high ionic strength,such as saliva and serum,the Debye screening effect will weaken the interaction between FET biosensors and target bio-molecules,thereby affecting the sensing sensitivity and accuracy.

Isochrysis galbana is considered an ideal bait for functional foods and nutraceuticals of humans because of its high fucoxanthin(Fx)content.However,multi-omics analysis of the regulatory networks for Fx biosynthesis in I.galbana has not been reported.In this study,we report a high-quality genome assembly of I.galbana LG007,which has a genome size of 92.73 Mb,with a contig N50 of 6.99 Mb and 14,900 protein-coding genes.Phylogenetic analysis confirmed the monophyly of Haptophyta,with I.galbana sister to Emiliania huxleyi and Chrysochromulina tobinii.Evolutionary analysis revealed an estimated divergence time between I.galbana and E.huxleyi of~133 million years ago.Gene family analysis indicated that lipid metabolism-related genes exhibited significant expansion,including IgPLMT,IgOAR1,and IgDEGS1.Metabolome analysis showed that the content of carotenoids in I.galbana cultured under green light for 7 days was higher than that under white light,andβ-carotene was the main carotenoid,accounting for 79.09%of the total carotenoids.Comprehensive multi-omics analysis revealed that the content ofβ-carotene,antheraxanthin,zeaxanthin,and Fx was increased by green light induction,which was significantly correlated with the expression of IgMYB98,IgZDS,IgPDS,IgLHCX2,IgZEP,IgLCYb,and IgNSY.These findings contribute to the understanding of Fx biosynthesis and its regulation,providing a valuable reference for food and pharmaceutical applications.

A facile finger-paint physical modification for bilateral electrode/electrolyte interface towards a stable aqueous Zn battery

Since the electrode/electrolyte interface(EEI)is the main redox center of electrochemical processes,proper manipulation of the EEI microenvironment is crucial to stabilize interfacial behaviors.Here,a finger-paint method is proposed to enable quick physical modification of glass-fiber separator without complicated chemical technology to modulate EEI of bilateral electrodes for aqueous zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs).An elaborate biochar derived from Aspergillus Niger is exploited as the modification agent of EEI,in which the multi-functional groups assist to accelerate Zn^(2+)desolvation and create a hydrophobic environment to homogenize the deposition behavior of Zn anode.Importantly,the finger-paint interface on separator can effectively protect cathodes from abnormal capacity fluctuation and/or rapid attenuation induced by H_(2)O molecular on the interface,which is demonstrated in modified MnO_(2),V_(2)O_(5),and KMn HCF-based cells.The as-proposed finger-paint method opens a new idea of bilateral interface engineering to facilitate the access to the practical application of the stable zinc electrochemistry.

A waterproof and breathable Cotton/rGO/CNT composite for constructing a layer-by-layer structured multifunctional flexible sensor

Developing a cotton fabric sensing layer with good waterproofness and breathability via a low-cost and eco-friendly method is increasingly important for the construction of comfortable and wearable electronic devices.Herein,a waterproof and breathable cotton fabric composite decorated by reduced graphene oxide(rGO)and carbon nanotube(CNT),Cotton/rGO/CNT,is reported by a facile solution infiltration method,and we adopt such Cotton/rGO/CNT composite to develop a layer-by-layer structured multifunctional flexible sensor,enabling the high-sensitivity detection of pressure and temperature stimulus.Particularly,the multifunctional flexible sensor exhibits a high response toward tiny pressure,demonstrating salient superiority in the continuous and reliable monitoring of human physiological information.Concerning temperature sensing,a good linear response for the temperatures ranging from 28 to 40℃ is achieved by the multifunctional flexible sensor and gives rise to be successfully applied to the non-contact real-time monitoring of human respiration signal.Finally,an array consisting of multifunctional flexible sensors further demonstrates its feasibility in perceiving and mapping the pressure and temperature information of contact objects.This work provides a feasible strategy for designing cotton-based sensing layers that can effectively resist liquid water penetration and allow water vapor transmission,and offers reasonable insight for constructing comfort and multifunctional wearable electronics.

COVID-19 is caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.Current systemic vaccines generally pro-vide limited protection against viral replication and shedding within the airway.Recombinant VSV(rVSV)is an effective vector which inducing potent and comprehensive immunities.Currently,there are two clinical trials investigating COVID-19vaccines based on VSV vectors.These vaccines were developed with spike protein of WA1 which administrated intramuscularly.Although intranasal route is ideal for activating mucosal immunity with VSV vector,safety is of concern.Thus,a highly attenuated rVSV with three amino acids mutations in matrix protein(VSV_(MT))was developed to construct safe mucosal vaccines against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern.It demonstrated that spike protein mutant lacking 21 amino acids in its cytoplasmic domain could rescue rVSV efficiently.VSV_(MT) indicated improved safeness compared with wild-type VSV as the vector encoding SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.With a single-dosed intranasal inoculation of rVSV_(ΔGMT)-S_(Δ21),potent SARS-CoV-2specific neutraliza-tion antibodies could be stimulated in animals,particularly in term of mucosal and cellular immunity.Strikingly,the chimeric VSV encoding S_(Δ21) of Delta-variant can induce more potent immune responses compared with those encoding S_(Δ21) of Omicron-or WA1-strain.VSV_(MT) is a promising platform to develop a mucosal vaccine for countering COVID-19.

尽管在社会学的视野中,都市代表了人类文明发展的最高水平,但在文学的领地里,都市却常常扮演着一种外来的、异己的角色,背负着种种难以摆脱的污名。在以农耕文明为主导的社会环境中,作家们惯于以乡村道德的眼光打量都市,以乡土的价值尺度对都市加以“堕落”“罪恶”的道德指认。20世纪90年代以来的台湾地区作家对此有了更进一步的发挥,对都市的针砭也发生了从道德主义的“罪恶”到后现代主义的“废墟”的转变,作家们从物质废墟、情欲废墟、现代废墟、政治废墟四个面向对都市的本质加以透视。如果说以往的都市批判常常援引乡土的价值参照,将乡土视为解除都市魔咒的万能灵药,那么20世纪90年代以来台湾地区小说则意味着,在现代性的负面后果面前,倒退回前现代的乡土早已不是疗救都市后现代顽疾的答案。

Aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)have recently attracted increasing research interest due to their unparalleled safety,fantastic cost competitiveness and promising capacity advantages compared with the commercial lithium ion batteries.However,the disputed energy storage mechanism has been a confusing issue restraining the development of ZIBs.Although a lot of efforts have been dedicated to the exploration in battery chemistry,a comprehensive review that focuses on summarizing the energy storage mechanisms of ZIBs is needed.Herein,the energy storage mechanisms of aqueous rechargeable ZIBs are systematically reviewed in detail and summarized as four types,which are traditional Zn^(2+)insertion chemistry,dual ions co-insertion,chemical conversion reaction and coordination reaction of Zn^(2+)with organic cathodes.Furthermore,the promising exploration directions and rational prospects are also proposed in this review.

Different Outcome of Myeloid Sarcoma with Spinal Cord Compression Preceding Acute Myeloid Leukemia:Report of Two Cases and Review of Literatures

Myeloid sarcomas （MS） preceding acute myeloid leukemia （AML） are rare, which presenting as acute spinal cord compression is even rare. Here we report two new cases of myeloid sarcoma patients, whose outcomes were different. Twenty-seven patients with spinal MS preceding AML have been reported to date, including the two cases presented in this article. Surgical decompression was performed in 25 of the 27 patients, and 23 of these received additional anti-AML therapy. Considering our patients and the published cases in the literature we suggest that immunohistochemical study plays an essential role in arriving at a correct diagnosis of MS, and that emergency surgery to resect spinal MS is an available treatment to make neural function recovery, and that the disease must be treated with intensive chemotherapy similar to that used to treat AML as soon as possible after resection or irradiation of the tumor.
