Prevalence, risk factors, and BRAF mutation of colorectal sessile serrated lesions among Vietnamese patients

BACKGROUND Sessile serrated lesions(SSLs)are considered precancerous colorectal lesions that should be detected and removed to prevent colorectal cancer.Previous studies in Vietnam mainly investigated the adenoma pathway,with limited data on the serrated pathway.AIM To evaluate the prevalence,risk factors,and BRAF mutations of SSLs in the Vietnamese population.METhoDS This is a cross-sectional study conducted on patients with lower gastrointestinal symptoms who underwent colonoscopy at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam.SSLs were diagnosed on histopathology according to the 2019 World Health Organi-zation classification.BRAF mutation analysis was performed using the Sanger DNA sequencing method.The multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine SSL-associated factors.RESULTS There were 2489 patients,with a mean age of 52.1±13.1 and a female-to-male ratio of 1:1.1.The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%[95%confidence interval(CI):3.5-5.1].In the multivariate analysis,factors significantly associated with SSLs were age≥40[odds ratio(OR):3.303;95%CI:1.607-6.790],male sex(OR:2.032;95%CI:1.204-3.429),diabetes mellitus(OR:2.721;95%CI:1.551-4.772),and hypertension(OR:1.650,95%CI:1.045-2.605).The rate of BRAF mutations in SSLs was 35.5%.CONCLUSION The prevalence of SSLs was 4.2%.BRAF mutations were present in one-third of SSLs.Significant risk factors for SSLs included age≥40,male sex,diabetes mellitus,and hypertension.

Wastewater containing an azo dye Orange G(OG)causes massive environmental pollution,thus it is critical to develop a highly effective,environmental-friendly,and reusable catalyst in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation for OG degradation.In this work,we successfully applied a magnetic MnFe_(2)O_(4)/α-MnO_(2) hybrid fabricated by a simple hydrothermal method for OG removal in water.The characteristics of the hybrid were investigated by Xray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method,vibrating sample magnetometry,electron paramagnetic resonance,thermogravimetric analysis,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.The effects of operational parameters(i.e.,catalytic system,catalytic dose,solution pH,and temperature)were investigated.The results exhibited that 96.8% of OG degradation was obtained with MnFe_(2)O_(4)/α-MnO2(1:9)/PMS system in 30 min regardless of solution pH changes.Furthermore,the possible reaction mechanism of the coupling system was proposed,and the degradation intermediates of OG were identified by mass spectroscopy.The radical quenching experiments and EPR tests demonstrated that SO_(4)•̶,O_(2)•̶,and 1O2 were the primary reactive oxygen species responsible for the OG degradation.The hybrid also displayed unusual stability with less than 30%loss in the OG removal after four sequential cycles.Overall,magnetic MnFe2O4/α-MnO2 hybrid could be used as a high potential activator of PMS to remove orange G and maybe other dyes from wastewater.

Synthesis of Core-Shell Nanoparticles of Cu-Ag for Application in Electrohydrodynamic Printing Technique

Core-shell nanoparticles of Cu-Ag (Cu core and Ag shell) were synthesized using chemical method. Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) was used as a surfactant, and ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) were used as reducing agents to reduce the metal complexes [Cu(NH3)4]^2+ and [Ag(NH3)2]^+. The results of transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopic (UV-Vis) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the core-shell nanoparticles of Cu-Ag were successfully synthersized. The average particle size was 32 nm. The dispersion of the nanoparticles was still good after 80 days without the formation of the oxides of Cu and Ag. The properties of the nanoparticles suggested that they were suitable to be used as an electrically conductive material for conductive ink-jet printing inks.

Biotic and abiotic factors control aboveground biomass(AGB)and the structure of forest ecosystems.This study analyses the variation of AGB and stand structure of evergreen broadleaved forests among six ecoregions of Vietnam.A data set of 1731-ha plots from 52 locations in undisturbed old-growth forests was developed.The results indicate that basal area and AGB are closely correlated with annual precipitation,but not with annual temperature,evaporation or hours of sunshine.Basal area and AGB are positively correlated with trees>30 cm DBH.Most areas surveyed(52.6%)in these old-growth forests had AGB of 100–200 Mg ha^-1;5.2%had AGB of 400–500 Mg ha^-1,and 0.6%had AGB of>800 Mg ha^-1.Seventy percent of the areas surveyed had stand densities of 300–600 ind.ha^-1,and 64%had basal areas of 20–40 m^2 ha^-1.Precipitation is an important factor influencing the AGB of old-growth,evergreen broadleaved forests in Vietnam.Disturbances causing the loss of large-diameter trees(e.g.,>100 cm DBH)affects AGB but may not seriously affect stand density.

Studies have investigated the effects of heat and temperature variability(TV)on mortality.however,few assessed whether TV modifies the heat-mortality association.Data on daily temperature and mortality in the warm season were collected from 717 locations across 36 countries.TV was calculated as the standard deviation of the average of the same and previous days’minimum and maximum temperatures.

Influence of Chitosan Binder on the Adhesion of Silver Nanoparticles on Cotton Fabric and Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity

Colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with particle size less than 10 nm and concentration of 2 mM/L (~200 mg/L) were synthesized by gamma Co-60 ray irradiation of Ag+/chitosan solutions with different chitosan concentration of 0.5%, 1% and 2% (w/v). Incorporation of AgNPs onto cotton fabric was carried out by padding method with 100% wet pick-up. The content of AgNPs deposited on cotton fabric and released from cotton fabric after repeated washing was determined by inductively couple plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The results indicated that cotton/AgNPs fabric made from padding into AgNPs solution with 0.5% - 1% chitosan was the best one of AgNPs adhesion ability on cotton fabric. Results on antibacterial activity against S. aureus showed that cotton/AgNPs fabric with AgNPs content more than 100 mg/kg exhibited highly antibacterial activity (η > 98%). The mechanical property (tensile strength and elongation) of cotton/AgNPs fabrics was almost unchanged in comparison with untreated cotton fabric. Thus, the resultant cotton/AgNPs fabric with highly antibacterial activity can be potentially used as bed drapes and/or patient uniforms in hospitals, etc.

越南西北部O quy ho钼矿床为范士版成矿带的典型钼矿床之一,矿体以脉状形式就位于中生代花岗岩中,辉钼矿主要赋存于石英脉及长石石英脉中,与黄铁矿、黄铜矿、磁铁矿等共生。8件样品硫同位素分析结果表明,δ34S介于0.14‰～3.34‰之间,平均值为1.53‰,表明成矿物质具有深源特征。黄铁矿的206Pb/204Pb范围为18.583～22.355,207Pb/204Pb变化于15.632～15.812之间,208Pb/204Pb变化于38.989～39.199;辉钼矿的206Pb/204Pb、207Pb/204Pb、208Pb/204Pb分别为18.686～18.737、15.655～15.660和39.081～39.082,与范士版含角闪石花岗斑岩具有成因联系。辉钼矿Re-Os同位素等时线测年获得了(36±1)Ma的年龄,该年龄与金沙江-红河新生代斑岩铜钼矿成矿带岩浆-成矿活动的年龄一致,提出O quy ho钼矿床为金沙江-红河新生代斑岩铜钼矿带的一部分。
