Background Although preventable and curable,tuberculosis(TB)still occurs in poor or developing countries,mainly in metropolitan regions of larger *** disease is a serious public health problem,and is directly linked to social *** analyzed temporal trend variations in areas at risk for concomitant TB,and characterized the clinical and epidemiological profiles of cases in a hyperendemic municipality in the Amazon region of *** This ecological study was performed in the municipality of Manaus,in northern *** population comprised cases with concomitant pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB,registered on the Notifiable Diseases Information System(SINAN),between January 1,2009 and december 31,*** risk cluster detection,spatial and spatiotemporal scanning statistical techniques were *** Spatial Variation in Temporal Trends(SVTT)approach was used to detect and infer clusters for significantly different time *** Between 2009 and 2018,873 concomitant TB cases were registered in *** using purely spatial scanning statistics,we identified two risk *** relative risk(RR)of the clusters was 2.21(95%confidence interval[CI]:1.57–2.88;P=0.0031)and 2.03(95%CI:1.58–2.58;P=0.0029).Using space-time scanning,we identified a risk cluster with an RR of 3.57(95%CI:2.84–4.41;P=0.014),between 2017 and *** SVTT analyses,three clusters with spatial variations were detected in the significant temporal trends:SVTT 1(P=0.042),SVTT 2(P=0.046)and SVTT 3(P=0.036).Conclusions In Brazil,several TB-determining factors such as race/color,gender,low educational level and low income overlap in needy urban areas and communities,demonstrating that it is unlikely to reach the goals,agreed and launched with the END TB Strategy within the deadlines of international agreements,if there is no reduction in existing inequities determinants and risk of illness in the country.

Hypertonic saline （HS） has been applied in several med- ical areas such as pneumology （asthma, cystic fibrosis and bronchiolytis）, endocrinology （hyponatremia） and especially in emergency medicine, in traumatic and in- flammatory/infectious disorders. It may be composed of 3% or 7.5% sodium chlorate. By far, 3% solution is the most widely studied and used solution （Pinto et al., 2006, 2015; dekker et al., 2014; Gantner et al., 2014; Shein et al., 2014）.

Based on"user pays"and"provider gets"principles,the Payment for Environmental Services(PES)consists of providing economic incentives or compensation for land users who adopt activities that promote ecosystem *** PES initiatives have grown rapidly in Brazil over the last few decades,however,studies that address the panorama of these programs in the country are still scarce,regional,or ***,we investigate the PES overview in Brazil through interviews and an extensive literature *** found in total 80 PES programs implemented in Brazil,of which 14 were *** pro-grams are poorly distributed across the country,mostly concentrated in the Atlantic Forest(56.25%)and Savanna(36.25%)biomes,in Southeastern *** majority of programs primarily prioritize improving water quality and ***,reforestation,protection of native vegetation,and soil and water conservation are their main proposed *** positive impacts of Brazil's PES experi-ences are evident;while the lack of transparency and monitoring,and poor spatial and financial dis-tribution are still major *** conclude that if correctly implemented,PES schemes offer a path to reconcile environmental conservation with agricultural production in Brazil.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of promoter region polymorphisms of toll-like receptor(TLR)2-196 to-174 del and TLR4-1607T/C(rs10759932) on m RNA and protein expression in tumor tissue and of TLR4+896A/G(rs4986790) on colorectal cancer(CRC) ***: The TLR2-196 to-174 del polymorphism was investigated using allele-specific polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and the TLR4-1607T/C and TLR4+896A/G by PCR-restriction fragment length p o l y m o r p h i s m( R F L P). W e g e n o t y p e d 4 3 4 D N A samples from 194 CRC patients and 240 healthy individuals. The m RNA relative quantification(RQ) was performed in 40 tumor tissue samples by quantitative PCR Taq Man assay, using specific probes for TLR2 and TLR4 genes, and ACTB and GAPDH reference geneswere used as endogenous controls. Protein expression was analyzed by immunohistochemistry with specific primary ***: No association was found for TLR4-1607T/C and TLR4+896A/G by three statistical models(logadditive, dominant and recessive). However, based on dominant and log-additive models, the polymorphic variant TLR2-196 to-174 del was associated with increased CRC risk [dominant: odds ratio(OR) = 1.72, 95%CI: 1.03-2.89; P = 0.038 and log-additive: OR =1.59, 95%CI: 1.02-2.48; P = 0.039]. TLR2 m RNA expression was increased in tumor tissue(RQ = 2.36) when compared to adjacent normal tissue(RQ = 1; P del variant carriers showed m RNA relative expression 2.19 times higher than wild-genotype carriers. The TLR2 protein expression was also higher for the TLR2-196 to-174 del variant carriers [117 ± 10 arbitrary unit(a.u.) vs 95 ± 4 a.u., P = 0.03]. Aims Soil plays an important role in the formation and heterogene-ity of habitats and thus can cause changes in vegetation struc-ture and plant *** differentiation between Cerrado/savanna and forest is well known,but the relationship between soil and habitats from savannic or forest formations still needs to be better understood,particularly in tropical ecotonal *** studied the association between attributes of plant com-munities,namely structure and diversity,and physicochemical characteristics of soils in the Caatinga domain at the transition to Cerrado in *** Chemical and physical analyses of soils were performed in samples of 38 plots from savannic formations and 30 plots from forest *** was characterized floristically and structurally in all plots,five habitats being assessed in each plant *** features and vegetation parameters were highly distinct among the different *** Findingsin general,forest habitats were more nutrient rich than savannic ***,soil variables showed effects both on vegetation structure and on its species diversity,more pronouncedly in the savannic *** were structurally distinct,and diversity differed between savannic and forest communities;however,a higher differentiation occurred when the savannic formation habitats were compared among *** plant diversity did not differ among forest formation habitats,soil attributes showed a close relationship with edaphic factors and can contribute for similar *** soil-vegetation relationship in highly diverse ecotonal landscapes is important from the conservation biology point of view and aid in the execution of proactive plans for the maintenance of ***,we noticed that diversity and soil behaves distinctly between savannic and forest communities.

Land use and land cover (LULC) changes strongly affect local hydrology and sediment *** current study focused on a basin in the Brazilian Amazon and had the following three objectives:(1) to perform an effective diagnosis of flow and sediment yield,(2) to evaluate the impacts of LULC changes over the last 40 years on the hydro-sedimentological variables,and (3) to investigate the impacts of the possible trends or breaking points in the flow,surface runoff,and sediment yield *** Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model validation showed that the simulated results were consistent with the data measured in the dynamic reproduction of flow ***,changes in LULC altered surface runoff,sediment yield,and flow according to the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt non-parametric *** was also observed that the sub-basins in which pastureland is predominant are more susceptible to increased surface runoff and sediment *** to trend and homogeneity tests,these sub-basins had break points in the time series of these *** the other hand,in the sub-basins whose land cover is predominantly forest,the time series is homogeneous and *** current study highlighted the impacts that 40 years of LULC changes in an Amazonian basin had on hydro-sedimentological variables,which,in turn,can play an important role in changing the hydrological cycle,consequently these changes can also impact diverse human activities in the region,such as agribusiness,livestock,energy production,food security,and public water ***,it is concluded that the SWAT model is a good estimator of hydro-sedimentological processes in Amazonian basins and can be used by decision makers in the management of water and environmental resources.

Melatonin is used in many countries to improve sleep *** is a hormone produced by the pineal gland and enterochromaff in cells which control sleep and gastrointestinal *** levels of melatonin lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).Most of patients with GERD have a sleep ***,low melatonin levels is the main cause of *** this,it has an inhibitory action on gastric acid secretion and seems to control the lower esophageal *** pump inhibitors(PPIs) are a group of drugs whose main action is a pronounced and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid *** are the most potent inhibitors of acid secretion available ***(one of the PPIs) and melatonin have similarities in their chemical ***,we could consider omeprazole as a rough copy of *** this paper,we compare the advantages and disadvantages of the clinical use of melatonin and PPIs.
