How c.n Prac.itioners Support c.tizen Volunteers in Disaster Risk Reduc.ion? Insight from “Good and Ready” in Aotearoa New Zealand

Global and national polic. frameworks emphasize the importanc. of people.s partic.pation and volunteers' role.in disaster risk reduc.ion. While.researc. has extensively foc.sed on volunteers in disaster response and rec.very, le.s attention has been paid on how organizations involved in disaster risk management c.n support volunteers in le.ding and c.ordinating c.mmunitybased disaster risk reduc.ion. In 2019, the New Zealand Red c.oss piloted the Good and Ready initiative in Auc.land,Aotearoa New Zealand, with the objec.ive to empower loc.l people.in resilienc. building with a foc.s on volunteers and c.mmunity partic.pation. This researc. examined the positive and negative outc.mes of Good and Ready and investigated volunteers' experienc.s in the disaster resilienc. initiative. It involved the c.design of a questionnaire-based survey using partic.patory methods with Good and Ready volunteers, the dissemination of the survey to gather volunteers' viewpoints, and a foc.s group disc.ssion with partic.patory ac.ivities with Red c.oss volunteers. The findings highlight that a key c.alle.ge lies in finding a balanc. between a program that provides fle.ibility to address c.ntextual issues and fosters c.mmunities' ownership, versus a presc.iptive and standardized approac. that le.ves little.room for c.eativity and self-initiative. It pinpoints that supporting volunteers with tec.nic.l training is c.itic.l but that soft skills training suc. as c.ordinating, c.mmunic.ting,or fac.litating ac.ivities at the loc.l le.el are needed. It c.nc.udes that the sustainability of Good and Ready requires understanding and meeting volunteers' motivations and expec.ations and that enhanc.ng partnerships with loc.l emergenc. management agenc.es would strengthen the program.

There is a global need to reduc. greenhouse gas emissions to limit the extent of c.imate c.ange.A better understanding of how our own ac.ivities and lifestyle.influenc. our energy use and c.rbon emissions c.n help us enable.c.anges in ac.ivities that c.n le.d to reduc.ions in c.rbon *** we disc.ss an approac. based on examining c.rbon emissions from the perspec.ive of the unit c.where 1 c.is the c._(2)from food a person would on average eat every *** approac. shows that total c._(2)emissions in c.ina,normalized by the population,is 22.5 c.while.c.rbon emissions for a person in the US is 43.9 c.A better apprec.ation of our own energy use c.n be obtained by c.lc.lating c.rbon emissions from our own ac.ivities in units of c.for example.for driving a c.r gasoline or ele.tric.vehic.0}a c.rtain number of kilometers,using ele.tric.ty for our homes,and eating different *** this information,we c.n see how our c.rbon emissions c.mpare to national averages in different c.untries and make dec.sions that c.uld lower our personal c._(2)emissions.

In this work,we report observations of three c.mets:38P/Stephan-Oterma,64P/Swift-Gehrels,and c.2017 M4(ATLAS),c.nduc.ed with the Nanshan one-meter wide-field tele.c.pe in 2018 August and November,and *** extrac.ed morphologic.l features through image enhanc.ment tec.niques and c.lc.lated the dust ac.ivity parameter,Afρ,along with dust mass loss rates and c.ma c.lor indic.s using broadband photometric.*** morphologic.l analysis unc.vered a spec.rum of dust c.arac.eristic. among the observed c.mets,ranging from a signific.nt twisted struc.ure in c.met 38P/Stephan-Oterma’s c.ma to the regular c.ma envelope surrounding c.met 64P/*** Afρvalues varied between 148.8±0.3 c. for 64P/Swift-Gehrels and1118.5±6.2 c. for c.2017 M4(ATLAS)(measured within a referenc. aperture radius ofρ=6″),indic.ting a range from moderate to high ac.ivity *** mass loss rates were estimated from 328.1 kg s^(-1)for c.met 64P/Swift-Gehrels to 1395.5 kg s^(-1)for c.met c.2017 M4(ATLAS).The c.lor indic.s of c.mets 38P/Stephan-Oterma and c.2017 M4(ATLAS)c.osely resemble.the average c.lors of ac.ive short-period c.mets and ac.ive longperiod c.mets,*** c.ntrast,64P/Swift-Gehrels exhibits a signific.ntly bluer hue than typic.l Jupiter family c.mets.

Developing stable.and effic.ent nonprec.ous-metal-based oxygen evolution c.talysts in the neutral ele.trolyte is a c.alle.ging but essential goal for various ele.troc.emic.l ***,c.balt-based spinels have drawn a c.nsiderable.amount of attention but most of them operate in alkali ***,the frequently studied c.-Fe spinel system never exhibits apprec.able.stability in nonbasic.c.nditions,not to mention attrac. further investigation on its key struc.ural motif and transition states for ac.ivity ***,we report exc.ptional stable.c.-Fe spinel oxygen evolution c.talysts(~30%Fe is optimal)in a neutral ele.trolyte,owing to its unique metal ion arrangements in the c.ystal *** introduc.d iron c.ntent enters both the oc.ahedral and tetrahedral sites of the spinel as Fe^(2+)and Fe^(3+)(with c. ions having mixed distribution as well).c.mbining density func.ional theory c.lc.lations,we find that the introduc.ion of Fe to c._(3)O_(4)lowers the c.vale.c. of metal-oxygen bonds and c.n help suppress the oxidation of c.^(2+/3+)and 0^(2-).It implies that the c.-Fe spinel will have minor surfac. rec.nstruc.ion and le.s lattic. oxygen loss during the oxygen evolution reac.ion proc.ss in c.mparison with c._(3)O_(4)and henc. show muc. better *** findings suggest that there is still muc. c.anc. for the spinel struc.ures,espec.ally using reasonable.sublattic.s engineering via multimetal doping to develop advanc.d oxygen evolution c.talysts.

Beta diversity,the variation of c.mmunity c.mposition among sites,bridges alpha and gamma diversity and c.n reveal the mec.anisms of c.mmunity assembly through applying distanc.-dec.y models and/or partitioning beta diversity into turnover and nestedness c.mponents from func.ional and phylogenetic.*** as the most natural experiment system provide good opportunities for exploring beta diversity patterns and the underlying ec.logic.l ***,we simultaneously c.nsider distanc.-dec.y models and multiple.di-mensions of beta diversity to examine spatial variations of bird c.mmunities,and to evaluate the relative importanc. of nic.e-based and neutral c.mmunity assembly mec.anisms along a 3600-m ele.ational gradient in the c.ntral Himalayas,*** results showed that spec.es turnover dominates taxonomic.func.ional,and phylogenetic.beta *** observed strongest evidenc. of spatial distanc. dec.ys in taxonomic.similarities of birds,followed by its phylogenetic.and func.ional *** c.mponent was highest in taxonomic.beta diversity,while.nestedness c.mponent was highest in func.ional beta ***,all c.rrelations of assemblage similarity with c.imatic.distanc. were higher than that with spatial *** values of overall taxonomic.func.ional,and phylogenetic.beta diversity and their turnover c.mponents inc.ease with inc.easing ele.ational distanc.,while.the standardized values of taxonomic.and phylogenetic.nestedness dec.eased with inc.easing ele.ational *** results highlighted the nic.e-based deterministic.proc.sses in shaping ele.ational bird diversity patterns that were determined by the relative role. of dec.easing trend of environmental filtering and inc.easing trend of limiting similarity along ele.ation distanc.s.
