Distribution Patterns of Pentacyclic TriterpenoidHydrocarbons in Low-Mature Source Rocksfrom Eastern China

: Four typical distribution patterns of pentacyclic triterpenoid hydrocarbons (types A-D) are distinguished in the low-mature source rocks from eastern China. Type A has a relatively high content of pentacyclic triterpenes. It exists in immature sediments and the distribution and abundance of triterpenes vary with the maturity of the sediments. An unknown C30 triterpene (UCT2) has also been detected in very shallow sediments. This compound is very unstable and disappears rapidly with the increase of depth. Type B is characterized by a relatively high amount of 17α(H), 21β(H)-30-homohopane. This kind of distribution pattern is common in coals and terrestrial sediments of low maturity. Type C has a relatively high content of diahopane and neohopane series. The analysis shows that this distribution pattern may have an indirect relationship with the input of higher plants despite its microbial source. There are C30—unconfirmed triterpane (UCT2) and a relatively high content of C35 hopane in type D. The distribution patterns of pentacyclic triterpenoids are varied under influences of biological sources, diagentic and sedimentary environments, thermal maturity etc. Therefore, they can provide useful information about the source rocks. Based on geochemical characteristics of the source rocks, the authors postulated that the type B and type C patterns are mainly related to suboxic-anoxic environments. Type D indicates the reducing to anoxic environment, in which C30-UCT3 may be related to some specific biological source in saline environments. The precursors and thermal evolution of some triterpenoid hydrocarbons are also discussed herein.

Novel Tetracyclic Terpanes in Crude Oils and Source Rock Extracts in Pearl River Mouth Basin and Their Geological Significance

Novel tetracyclic terpanes X and Y namely C24-des-A-oleanane and C27 tetracyclic terpane were detected in crude oils and source rock extracts in Zhu 1 depression in Pearl River Mouth Basin by GC-MS analysis technology. These compounds are similar to oleanane in the structure, and their relative abundance in m/z 191 partial mass cbromatogram has a good correlation with oleanane. Here compounds X and Y are considered to be derived from the des-A degradation of oleanoid precursor. The ratio of X/（X-I-C24） and Y/（Y-I-C24） increase with the increasing inputs of terrigenous organic matter in crude oils. Wenchang Formation middle-deep lacustrine source rocks with planktonic algae organic matter inputs and oil generating from it contain low abundance of compounds X and Y, while Enping Formation coal measures source rocks with terrigenous higher plants organic matter inputs and oil generating from it usually have higher compounds X and Y. In general when two terrigenous compounds C19 tricyclic terpane and bicadinane-T are high in crude oils, there are also a corresponding high abundant compounds X and Y. Relative abundance of compounds X and Y is closely related to the source of organic matter and it can indicate the input of terrigenous organic matter.

New evidence for the origin of natural gas in Ordos Basin from hydrocarbons of oil water

The chief aim of the present work is to investigate the controversy origin of natural gas in the Ordos Basin by using the hydrocarbons of oil water. New evidence has been found: There is relatively high content of light hydrocarbons and low content of heavy components in the hydrocarbons fraction of oil water in the middle gas field of the Majiagou Formation, Ordovician reservoir. The hydrocarbons of oil water in Well Shan 12 and Well Shan 78 have relatively high abundance of tricyclic terpane. Tricyclic ter-pane/hopane of the two samples are 1.48 and 0.36, respectively. They also show that pregnane and hompregnane are in relatively high abundance with lower hopane/sterane ratio. Pr/Ph is less than 2.0. These characteristics reflected the source input of marine carbonate sedimentary environment. In contrast, the hydrocarbon of Well Shan 81 is lack of tricyclic terpane series and pregnane. The geochemical characteristics and origin of crude oils in the Kekeya Oilfield,Xinjiang,China

GC/MS and GC/MS/MS techniques were employed to describe the characteristics of biomarker assem-blages in two sets of hydrocarbon source rocks,Jurassic and Permian,in southwestern Tarim,and the parameters for the classification of the two sets of hydrocarbon source rocks have been established. It is found that diahopane and C30-unknown terpane are abundant in Permian samples,the contents of diahopane in Jurassic samples are relatively low,and terpenoids have been detected in Jurassic samples but not in Permian source rock samples. Kekeya crude oils are abundant in diahopane and C30-unknown terpane. The results of fine oil-rock correlation indicated that Kekeya crude oils were derived mainly from the Permian hydrocarbon source rocks. However,a small amount of diterpenoid was detected in the crude oils,indicating that the Jurassic hydrocarbon source rocks also made a certain contribution to Kekeya crude oils.

The geochemical signatures of fifty-four rock samples and three supplementary drill stem test(DST)oils from the Yacheng-Sanya formations in the central Qiongdongnan Basin(CQB)were *** of the early Oligocene-early Miocene(36–16 Ma)palaeovegetation and source analyses of organic matter(OM)were conducted using aliphatic biomarkers in ancient sediments and DST *** the interpreted aquatic and terrigenous OM contributed to the CQB source rocks(SRs)but had varying relative *** four distribution patterns derived from n-alkanes,terpanes,and steranes are representative of four OM composition models of the Yacheng-Sanya SRs,including model A,model B,model C,and model D,which were classified based on the increasing contribution from terrigenous OM relative to aquatic *** terrigenous higher plantderived biomarkers,including oleanane,des-A-oleanane,C_(29)ααα20R sterane,bicadinanes,the C_(19)/(C_(19)+C_(23))tricyclic terpane ratio,and other n-alkane-derived ratios suggest that angiosperms had increased proportions in the palaeoflora from early Oligocene to early Miocene,and the bloom of terrigenous higher plants was observed during deposition of upper Lingshui Formation to lower Sanya *** findings are consistent with the incremental total organic carbon and free hydrocarbons+potential hydrocarbons(S_1+S_2)in the lower Lingshuilower Sanya strata with a significant enrichment of OM in the E_3l_1-N_1s_2 *** maturity-and environmentsensitive aliphatic parameters of the CQB SRs and DST oils suggest that all the samples have predominantly reached their early oil-generation windows but have not exceeded the peak oil windows,except for some immature Sanya Formation *** addition,most of the OM in the analysed samples was characterised by mixed OM contributions under anoxic to sub-anoxic ***,terrestrial-dominant SRs were interpreted to have developed mainly in the Lingshui-Sanya formations and were deposit

Biomarkers reveal the terrigenous organic matter enrichment in the late Oligocene-early Miocene marine shales in the Ying-Qiong Basin,South China Sea

The increase of total organic carbon content of the late Oligocene-early Miocene terrigenously-dominated marine shales in the shallower depth intervals was reported in the Ying-Qiong Basin,South China *** organic enriched lower Sanya Formation shales(early Miocene)have biomarker characteristics of tropical/subtropical plants,with abundant high molecular weight n-alkanes,angiosperm-derived oleanane,rearranged oleananesⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅱ,tricyclic/tetracyclic terpanes including des-A-oleanane,X,*,Y,Z,Z1 and bicadinanes W,T,T1,*** biomarker characteristics are suggestive of larger influx of the dominant tropical/subtropical angiosperms in flora under a warming and more humid climate during depositions of the lower Sanya Formation(early Miocene)than the older Lingshui Formation(late Oligocene).The tropical/subtropical angiosperm input was thought as the prime control of terrigenous organic matter enrichment relative to the redox condition,and the coeval sea level changes and seafloor spreading in the South China *** of the terrigenous organic matter in the early Miocene shales is likely in association with the coeval peak East Asian summer monsoon intensity in the South China Sea.

The Central Gas Field is a famous large-sized gas field in the Ordos Basin of China. However, identification of main gas sources of the Ordovician reservoirs in this gas field remains puzzling. On the basis of a lot of geochemical data and geological research on natural gases, the characteristics and sources of natural gases from Ordovician weathered crust reservoirs in the Central Gas Field in the Ordos Basin were studied. The results indicated that natural gases from Ordovician weathered crust reservoirs in the Central Gas Field in the Ordos Basin have similar chemical and isotopic compositions to highly mature and over-mature dry gases. Both coal-derived gases and oil-type gases coexist in the Central Gas Field in the Ordos Basin. The former was derived mainly from Carboniferous-Permian coal measures and the latter from Lower Paleozoic marine carbonates. It is suggested that coal-derived gases occur in the eastern part of the Central Gas Field while oil-type gases may be produced mainly in the northern, western and southern parts of the Central Gas Field in the Ordos Basin.

从受沉积环境控制的骨架颗粒粒度、成分成熟度、结构成熟度、自生矿物的析出和溶蚀等方面出发,将成岩学与层序地层学结合,研究四川盆地川中地区须家河组储集层次生孔隙发育程度的影响因素。研究认为,沉积环境和层序地层格架对次生孔隙的发育有重要的影响,在水动力强、砂岩成分成熟度较高的沉积环境,次生孔隙发育,物性较好;而水动力较弱、成分成熟度低的砂岩,次生孔隙不发育,物性差;低位体系域砂体较高位体系域次生孔隙发育,特别是在三级层序界面上的砂体,次生孔隙发育,物性好。砂岩的厚度也对次生孔隙有较大的影响,厚度大的砂岩物性较好。粒度粗、成分成熟度高且处在低位体系域的厚层砂岩,次生孔隙较为发育,为研究区下一步勘探和开发的有利区带。

Distribution of Immature Oil in ChinaThe early generated oil (so called immature oil) is the liquid hydrocarbons released by the organic matter, which underwent low-temperature biochemical and chemical reactions in the early stage (Ro=0.3%～0.6%). The early generated oil is very widespread in terrestrial deposit in China. There are commercial immature oil from East China such as Bohai Bay Basin, Jianghan Basin, Nanxiang Basin, Subei Basin, etc. to Qaidam Basin, Junggar Basin in West China although the exact amount of immature oil resource is still unknown.

原油酸值是表示原油中酸性物质总含量的参数,即中和1g原油所需要的KOH的数量。对世界大量原油酸值进行了调研,并根据酸值的大小将原油划分为正常原油、含酸原油、高酸值原油和特高酸值原油。其中将酸值高于1mg/g的原油称为高酸值原油。根据高酸值原油的成因,进一步划分出原生高酸值原油、次生生物降解型高酸值原油和混合型高酸值原油。研究发现,海相和湖相环境生成的原油,其酸值随生物降解程度的增加而增加的速率不同,湖相远高于海相。全球高酸值原油主要由生物降解作用形成,主要储量分布在前陆盆地的前缘地带,以大型地层圈闭油藏为主;其次分布在裂谷盆地、被动大陆边缘盆地和克拉通盆地含油气系统的边缘和浅层的各种背斜、断块和地层圈闭中。
