The high Ziz’s basin, which is part of the Central High Atlas, contains Jurassic superficial and deep aquifers. The information sheets are still fragmentary and insufficient because of the basin’s large size and its complex geological structure. In order to improve the knowledge of these aquifers and the determination of the structure of aquifers, a 3D geological model was developed in this study. It was constructed from information provided by 200 mechanical soundings and 81 electrical surveys and geological maps. Compiled holes were analyzed, coded and integrated in the software Groundwater Modeling System 6.0 (GMS 6.0). For doing this, five lithostratigraphic units were considered: the Domerian, the Toarcian, the Aalenian, the Bajo-Bathonian and the Quaternary. The operation of the 3D stratigraphic model allowed making it closer to the geometry of Jurassic aquifers.

A Methodology for Filtering and Inversion of Gravity Data: An Example of Application to the Determination of the Moho Undulation in Morocco

In this paper, we perform a comprehensive explanation of the geophysical inversion of gravity data, as well as, how it can be used to determine the Moho undulation and the crustal structure. This inversion problem and the necessary assumptions to solve it will be described in this paper joint to the methodology used to invert gravity data (gravity anomalies). In addition, the application of this method to the determination of the Moho undulation will be performed computing the Moho undulation in the Moroccan area, as an example. Before the inversion, it is necessary the removing of the gravity effects for shallow and very deep structures, to obtain the deep gravity anomaly field that is associated to the deep structure and Moho undulation. These effects will be removed by a filtering process of the gravity anomaly field and by subtraction of the gravity anomalies corresponding to the very deep structure. The results presented in this paper will show that the inversion of gravity data is a powerful tool, to research the structure of the crust and the upper mantle. By means of this inversion process, the principal structural features beneath of Morocco area will be revealed.

Cluster-based architectures are one of the most practical solutions in order to cope with the requirements of large-scale wireless sensor networks (WSN). Cluster-head election problem is one of the basic QoS requirements of WSNs, yet this problem has not been sufficiently explored in the context of cluster-based sensor networks. Specifically, it is not known how to select the best candidates for the cluster head roles. In this paper, we investigate the cluster head election problem, specifically concentrating on applications where the energy of full network is the main requirement, and we propose a new approach to exploit efficiently the network energy, by reducing the energy consumed for cluster forming.

Objective The current study aimed to elucidate the effect of vanillin on behavioral changes, oxidative stress, and histopathological changes induced by potassium bromate （KBrO3）, an environmental pollutant, in the cerebellum of adult *** The animals were divided into four groups： group 1 served as a control, group 2 received KBrO3, group 3 received KBrO3 and vanillin, and group 4 received only vanillin. We then measured behavioral changes, oxidative stress, and molecular and histological changes in the *** We observed significant behavioral changes in KBrO3-exposed mice. When investigating redox homeostasis in the cerebellum, we found that mice treated with KBrO3 had increased lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation in the cerebellum. These effects were accompanied by decreased Na＋-K＋ and Mg2＋ ATPase activity and antioxidant enzyme gene expression when compared to the control group. Additionally, there was a significant increase in cytokine gene expression in KBrO3-treated mice. Microscopy revealed that KBrO3 intoxication resulted in numerous degenerative changes in the cerebellum that were substantially ameliorated by vanillin supplementation. Co-administration of vanillin blocked the biochemical and molecular anomalies induced by *** Our results demonstrate that vanillin is a potential therapeutic agent for oxidative stress associated with neurodegenerative diseases.

A local case study for the environmental impact of landfill leachate on groundwater quality along and across the Mediouna landfill is presented, based on physicochemical and statistical approaches. The landfill has been operational since 1986 and it receives municipal solid wastes produced by the city of Casablanca, whose the daily waste output exceeds 4000 t. This waste is stockpiled in old sandstone quarries;the site has never been sealed before its opening. The aim of this study is to update the knowledge about groundwater quality around the landfill, to determine the factors controlling the extent of groundwater contamination and compare the results with those of 1989 and 2001. To evaluate groundwater pollution due to this landfill, piezometric level and geochemical analyses have been carried out on 19 wells. The physicochemical data of groundwater down-gradient of the landfill site is showing a deterioration of its quality, to the point that the wells have become unusable. The statistical treatment of physicochemical data by principal components analysis allowed the mapping of three areas downstream of the landfill. The first is hardly polluted, the second is moderately polluted and the third is characterized by mineralization through their waters and the almost absence of organic matter. The extent of groundwater contamination from an area with a radius of 200 m in 1989, to an area with a radius of about 1 km in 2001 to more 2 km as of today. This extension is controlled by the structural factor of faults, by the lithology of aquiferous and the intensity of water pumping;the wells equipped with pumps exert pressure against the advanced front of the pollution.

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by loss of dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia are the major symptoms of the disease. These motor impairments are often accompanied by affective and emotional dysfunctions which have been largely studied over the last decade. The aim of this study was to investigate emotional processing organization in the brain of patients with Parkinson's disease and to explore whether there are differences between recognition of different types of emotions in Parkinson's disease. We examined 18 patients with Parkinson's disease(8 men, 10 women) with no history of neurological or psychiatric comorbidities. All these patients underwent identical brain blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging for emotion evaluation. Blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging results revealed that the occipito-temporal cortices, insula, orbitofrontal cortex, basal ganglia, and parietal cortex which are involved in emotion processing, were activated during the functional control. Additionally, positive emotions activate larger volumes of the same anatomical entities than neutral and negative emotions. Results also revealed that Parkinson's disease associated with emotional disorders are increasingly recognized as disabling as classic motor symptoms. These findings help clinical physicians to recognize the emotional dysfunction of patients with Parkinson's disease.

Beach Morphology and Sediment Budget Variability Based on High Quality Digital Elevation Models Derived from Field Data Sets

The morphological and volumetric changes of a sandy beach were investigated through a series of two- monthly filed surveys carried out aver a 2-year period from April 2005 to January 2007. This paper discuss the ability of 3-D digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from high accurate data to assess and quantify beach morphodynamics in relation with wave forcing. The methodology and data acquisition are described and consist mainly in the production of interpolated DEMs from which a variety of representations can be made, including as elevation change maps, two-dimensional cross-sections of the beach, calculation of net volume. The results of the analysis highlight seasonal changes in beach morphology due to variations in wave energy. This behavior is characterized by beach erosion and bar decay under high-energy waves and net accretion and bar formation during relatively fair weather conditions. The sand budgets adjustments show that the loss of volume in the winter months is compensated for by accumulation to the beach during summer. This trend suggests that there is a mechanism which controls the beach evolution. The correlation between beach changes and wave energy variations highlights a net relation between them. The results from this in- vestigation state the value of DEMs utilized and demonstrate the efficiency of the 3-D approach employed here to assess the erosion and accretion patterns which would not be visualized using 2-D profiles.

The Casablanca landfill is one among many uncontrolled dumping sites in Morocco with no bottom liner. About 4000 tons/day of solid wastes from mixed urban and industrial origins are placed directly on the fifteen old sandstone quarries. At the site of this landfill, the groundwaters circulate deeply (10 m) in the fractured aquiferous quartzites, the site has never been sealed before its opening. The aim of this study is the characterization the groundwater quality around the landfill, to delimit the contaminated zone and the factors controlling the extent of groundwater contamination. To evaluate groundwater pollution due to this landfill, piezometric level and geochemical analyses have been carried out on 19 wells. The results of geochemical analyses show an important qualitative degradation of the groundwater, especially in the parts situated in the down gradient area and in direct proximity to the landfill. In these polluted zones, we have observed the following values: higher than 11 mS/cm in electric conductivity, 1400 mg/L in bicarbonates, 275 mg/L in chemical oxygen demand, 2616 and 100 mg/L respectively in chlorides and sulfate, 269.5 mg/L in nitrates, 50 - 100 mg/L in cadmium, and 40 - 230 μg/L in chromium. These concentrations widely exceed the standard values for potable and irrigation water. Several determining factors in the evolution of groundwater contamination have been highlighted, such as: depth of the water table, permeability of unsaturated zone and lineaments, effective infiltration, absence of a system for leachate drainage. So, to reduce the pollution risks of the groundwater, it is necessary to set a system of collection, drainage and treatment of landfill leachates and to emplace an impermeable surface at the site of landfill, in order to limit the infiltration of leachate.

This paper presents a scheduling scheme for packet transmission in OFDM wireless system with adaptive *** concept of efficient transmission capacity is introduced to make scheduling decisions based on channel *** present a mathematical technique for determining the optimum transmission rate, packet size, Forward Error Correction and constellation size in wireless system that have multi-carriers for OFDM modulation in downlink transmission. The throughput is defined as the number of bits per second correctly received. Trade-offs between the throughput and the operation range are observed, and equations are derived for the optimal choice of the design variables. These parameters are SNR dependent and can be adapted dynamically in response to the mobility of a wireless data terminal. We also look at the joint optimization problem involving all the design parameters together. In the low SNR region it is achieved by adapting the symbol rate so that the received SNR per symbol stays at some preferred value. Finally, we give a characterization of the optimal parameter values as functions of received SNR Simulation results are given to demonstrate efficiency of the scheme.

A new cobalt diphosphate (Na0.71Ag0.29)2CoP2O7, is synthesized by solid state reaction method and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The title material crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 with a = 6.4170(3) , b = 9.4510(2) , c = 10.9350(3) , a = 115.240(2)o, b = 80.190(3)o and g = 106.810(2)0. The structure presents a centro-symmetrical clusters Co4P4O28 consists of two Co2O11 units and two P2O7 pyrophosphate groups. The junction between clusters is assured by two P2O7 groups to form a three-dimensional anionic framework having different interconnecting tunnels running along [100] and [010]. The former contains the Na+ and Ag+ cations. The conductivity measurements of (Na0.71Ag0.29)2CoP2O7 are studied over a temperature interval from 783 to 903 K using the frequency response analyzer with 0.5 V amplitude signal over the range of 13 MHz - 5 Hz.
