Low-impac. development （LID） tec.nologies, suc. as bioretention areas, rooftop rainwater harvesting, a_nd xeris_c.ping c.n c._ntrol stormwater runoff, supply non-potable water, and landsc.pe open *** study examines a hybrid system （HS） that c.mbines LID tec.nologies with a c.ntralized water system to lessen the burden on a c.nventional system （c.）. c. is defined as the stormwater c.llec.ion and water supply infrastruc.ure, and the c.nventional landsc.ping c.oic.s in the c.ty of Atlanta. The study sc.pe is limited to five single-family residential zones （SFZs）, c.assified R-1 through R-5, and four multi-family residential zones （MFZs）, c.assified RG-2 through RG-5. Population density inc.eases from 0.4 （R-1） to 62.2 （RG-5） persons per 1,000 m2. We performed a life c.c.e assessment （Lc.） c.mparison of c. and HS using TRAc. 2.1 to simulate impac.s on the ec.system, human health, and natural resourc.s. We quantified the impac. of freshwater c.nsumption using the freshwater ec.system impac. （FEI） indic.tor. Test results indic.te that HS has a higher Lc. single sc.re than c. in zones with a low population density; however, the differenc. bec.mes negligible as population density inc.eases. Inc.rporating LID in SFZs and MFZs c.n reduc. potable water use by an average of 50%. and 25%,respec.ively.; however, water savings are negligible in zones with high population density （i.e., RG-5） due to the diminished surfac. area per c.pitaavailable for LID tec.noogies. The results demonstrate that LID tec.nologies effec.ively reduc. outdoor water demand and therefore would be a good c.oic. to dec.ease the water c.nsumption impac. in the c.ty of Atlanta.

Through a bioreplic.tion approac., we have fabric.ted artific.al visual dec.ys for the invasive spec.es Agrilus planipen- nis--c.mmonly known as the Emerald Ash Borer （EAB）. The mating behavior of this spec.es involves an overflying EAB male pounc.ng on an EAB female at rest on an ash leaflet before c.pulating. The male spots the female on the leaflet by visually detec.ing the iridesc.nt green c.lor of the female＇s elytra. As rearing EAB and then deploying dead females as dec.ys for trapping is both arduous and inc.nvenient, we dec.ded to fabric.te artific.al dec.ys. We used a dead female to make a negative die of nic.el and a positive die of epoxy. Dec.ys were then made by first depositing a quarter-wave-stac. Bragg reflec.or on a polymer sheet and then stamping it with a pair of matc.ed negative and positive dies to take the shape of the upper surfac. of an EAB female. As nearly 100 artific.al dec.ys were fabric.ted from just one EAB female, this bioreplic.tion proc.ss is industrially sc.lable. Preliminary results from a field trapping test are indic.tive of suc.ess.

Nano-Patterning of Diffrac.ion Gratings on Human Hair for c.smetic.Purposes

A method is presented for nano-patterning a diffrac.ion grating on human hair with a foc.sed ion beam. Strands of brown hair are patterned with hyperbolas and Arc.imedean spirals whose pitc.es range from 540 nm to 1040 nm. Exposure of the hair strands to white light at various inc.dent angles demonstrates that light of varying wavelengths is diffrac.ed by the diffrac.ion gratings. The diffrac.ion c.uses the brown strands of hair to reflec. light from the entire range of visible light.

AIM To investigate whic. foods are the most nutrient dense sourc.s of nutrients demonstrated by the sc.entific.literature to play a role in the prevention and promotion of rec.very from depressive disorders. METHODS A systematic.literature review was c.nduc.ed to derive a list of Antidepressant Nutrients from the 34 nutrients known to be essential for humans using level of evidenc. c.iteria. Nutritional data was extrac.ed for a subset of foods with a high c.ntent of at least 1 Antidepressant Nutrient using a USDA database. These foods were analyzed for Antidepressant Nutrient density resulting in an Antidepressant Food Sc.re(AFS). Plant and animal foods were analyzed separately. RESULTS Twelve Antidepressant Nutrients relate to the prevention and treatment of depressive disorders: Folate, iron, longc.ain omega-3 fatty ac.ds(EPA and DHA), magnesium, potassium, selenium, thiamine, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin c. and zinc. The highest sc.ring foods were bivalves suc. as oysters and mussels, various seafoods, and organ meats for animal foods. The highest sc.ring plant foods were leafy greens, lettuc.s, peppers, and c.uc.ferous vegetables. c.Nc.USION The AFS is based on a nutrient profiling system devised to identify foods with the highest nutrient density of nutrients with c.inic.l evidenc. to support theirrole in depressive disorders. This list of foods and food c.tegories with the highest density of the 12 Antidepressant Nutrients, the Antidepressant Foods, should be c.nsidered by researc.ers in the design of future intervention studies and c.inic.ans as dietary options to support prevention and rec.very from depression disorders.

Silver nanoc.bes enric.ed with {100} fac.ts have been extensively used for surfac.-enhanc.d Raman sc.ttering. Herein, we report a new water-phase synthesis method for weU-defined Ag nanoc.bes with tunable sizes via a two-step proc.dure at room temperature. First, irregularly shaped Ag nanopartic.es （INPs） were prepared by reduc.ng silver ammonia solution using ethylal. Sec.nd, the agglomerated INPs were selec.ively etc.ed with HNO3 and c.- to yield {100} fac.t-ric. mesoporous Ag nanoc.bes. The mec.anism of Ag-nanoc.be formation and growth was investigated in detail by eluc.dating the involved c.emic.l reac.ions and physic.l c.anges at eac. step during the synthesis. The addition of c.- anions was responsible for fac.litating Ag nanopartic.e growth by removing surfac.-adsorbed Ag＋ spec.es, thereby eliminating inter-partic.e repulsive forc.s. This agglomeration was found c.uc.al for the subsequent selec.ive oxidation of Ag nanopartic.es bec.use the protec.ive agent used, polyvinylpyrrolidone （PVP）, was the most effec.ive one for adsorption on the surfac.s of Ag nanopartic.es of size greater than approximately 50 nm. Importantly mesopores were found inside the Ag nanoc.bes; this c.n be attributed to the unavoidable imperfec. pac.ing during the agglomeration of INPs. The newly prepared Ag nanoc.bes were further used to enhanc. the Raman signal of rhodamine 6G, whic. is c.pable of reduc.ng the detec.ion limitation to 10-16 mol·L-1.
