Dear Editor,Almost every state in the United States with a comprehensive medicinal cannabis(MC)law identifies cancer as a qualifying condition for MC use[1,2].A growing body of scientific literature indicates that cancer patients use MC for both symptom management(e.g.,pain,low appetite,fatigue,mood disturbance)and cancer-directed therapy[3,4].

This paper describes severe plastic deformation(SPD)procedures,which are utilized to form an ultrafine-grained structure in metallic *** the SPD process,a solid material sample is subjected to very high loads without a significant change in sample *** the present work,the high-pressure torsion(HPT)process,as one of the SPD techniques,which achieves a high degree of deformation and ensures refinement of the microstructure,will be discussed in more *** that grain size control is accepted as a method to obtain materials with desired characteristics,an overview of the properties of ultrafine-grained titanium-based biomaterials to be used in medicine is ***,particular attention is dedicated to the influences of HPT process parameters,primarily hydrostatic pressure,and number of revolutions during torsion,on the grain size and physical and mechanical characteristics(modulus of elasticity,microhardness,and tensile properties),corrosion resistance,and biocompatibility of the titanium-based biomaterials.A review of the literature indicates that titanium-based materials obtained by the SPD process show improved mechanical and physical properties without losing biocompatibility and corrosion resistance,which suggests that these methods of obtaining implants are something that should be further developed in the future.

The aim of this research was to investigate the luminescent behavior of ultra-small Eu3+-activated phosphate and vanadate nanoparticles in the presence of *** have an average diameter of approximately 2 nm with a narrow size *** monazite crystal structure of phosphate-based particles(space group P121/n1)and single tetragonal zircon-type structure of vanadate-based particles(space group of I41/amd)have been confirmed using X-ray diffraction *** synthesized Eu3+-activated colloidal nanoparticles show sharp emission peaks in the red spectral *** measurements revealed emission quenching upon addition of millimolar concentrations of following pesticides:4-Chloro-2-methyl-phenoxyacetic acid(MCPA),2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D)and N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine(Glyphosate).In both phosphate and vanadate-based colloidal nanoparticles luminescence quenching is more evident in the presence of 2,4-D pesticide with the lowest limit of detection(0.7μM)obtained for phosphate-based nanoparticles.

Numerous researchers and institutions have been developing in ovo sexing technologies to improve animal welfare by identifying male embryos in an early embryonic stage and disposing of them before pain *** review gives a complete overview of the technological approaches reported in papers and patents by performing a thorough search using Web of Science and Patstat/Espacenet databases for papers and patents,*** on a total of 49 papers and 115 patent families reported until May 2023 worldwide,11 technology categories were defined:6 non-optical and 5 optical *** category was described for its characteristics while assessing its potential for ***,the dynamics of the publications of in ovo sexing techniques in both paper and patent fields were described through growth curves,and the interest or actual status was visualized using the number of paper citations and the actual legal status of the *** comparing the reported technologies in papers to those in patents,scientific gaps were observed,as some of the patented technologies were not reported in the scientific literature,e.g.,ion mobility and mass spectrometry ***,more diverse approaches in all categories were found in patents,although they do require more scientific evidence through papers or industrial adoption to prove their ***,although there is a recent trend for non-invasive techniques,invasive methods like analyzing DNA through PCR or hormones through immunosensing are still being reported(and might continue to be)in papers and *** was also observed that none of the technologies complies with all the industry requirements,although 5 companies already entered the *** the one hand,more research and harmony between consumers,industry,and governments is *** the other hand,close monitoring of the market performance of the currently available techniques will offer valuable insights into the potential an

Cyanobacteria are known to be a rich source of biologically active compounds some of which can have pharmaceutical importance. In this work we present the screening results of cyanobacterial strains for their antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic activity. Cyanobacterial strains were isolated from various soil types in province of Vojvodina and Central Serbia, Republic of Serbia. The screening included 9 strains of Anabaena and 9 strains of Nostoc. Both, extracellular products (from the culture liquid) and cellular crude lipophilic extracts were tested against 13 bacterial strains and 8 fungal strains. Cytotoxic activity was tested against three human cell lines. Methanol extracts were prepared according to ?stensvik. Antibacterial and antifungal activities were determined measuring inhibition zone, 48 h after inoculation. The cytotoxic activity was determined by sulforhodamine B (SRB) colorimetric assay. Of all cyanobacterial strains tested, 52% showed some antifungal and 41% antibacterial activity. Two out of six tested strains possessed cytotoxic activity. The cytotoxic activity of Anabaena strain S12 was found both in culture liquid and crude cell extract. It occurred specifically between the 21st and 42nd day of cultivation against HeLa and MCF7 cells, but had no activity against cell line derived from a healthy tissue. A high percentage of the active strains among the tested strains justify the effort of screening cyanobacteria that are isolated from terrestrial environments. The most promising strains for the fur- ther study are Anabaena strain S12 which showed strong cytotoxic and antibacterial activity and Ana- baena strain S20 which produces a potent antifungal compound. The future work, besides further screening and chemical identification of the active compounds, should also include the development of culture techniques that would lead to more efficient production of biologically active compounds.
