The RALF1-FERONIA complex interacts with and activates TOR signaling in response to low nutrients

Target of rapamycin(TOR)kinase is an evolutionarily conserved major regulator of nutrient metabolism and organismal growth in *** plants,nutrients are remobilized and reallocated between shoots and roots under low-nutrient conditions,and nitrogen and nitrogen-related nutrients(e.g.,amino acids)are key upstream signals leading to TOR activation in shoots under low-nutrient ***,how these forms of nitrogen can be sensed to activate TOR in plants is still poorly *** we report that the Arabidopsis receptor kinase FERON IA(FER)interacts with the TOR pathway to regulate nutrient(nitrogen and amino acid)signaling under low-nutrient conditions and exerts similar metabolic effects in response to nitrogen *** found that FER and its partner,RPM1-induced protein kinase(RIPK),interact with the TOR/RAPTOR complex to positively modulate TOR signaling *** this process,the receptor complex FER/RIPK phosphorylates the TOR complex component *** RALF1 peptide,a ligand of the FER/RIPK receptor complex,increases TOR activation in the young leaf by enhancing FER-TOR interactions,leading to promotion of true leaf growth in Arabidopsis under lownutrient ***,we showed that specific amino acids(e.g.,Gin,Asp,and Gly)promote true leaf growth under nitrogen-deficient conditions via the FER-TOR ***,our study reveals a mechanism by which the RALF1-FER pathway activates TOR in the plant adaptive response to low nutrients and suggests that plants prioritize nutritional stress response over RALF1-mediated inhibition of cell growth under low-nutrient conditions.

Plants perceive various external and internal signals to self-modulate biological processes through members of the receptor-like kinase(RLK)family,among which Catharanthus roseus receptor-like kinase 1-like(CrRLK1L)proteins with their ligands,rapid alkalinization factor(RALF)peptides,have attracted considerable ***(FER),a CrRLK1L member,was initially reported to act as a major plant cell growth modulator in distinct ***,the RALF–FER pathway was confirmed to function as an essential regulator of plant stress responses,including but not limited to immune ***,the RALF–FER pathway modulates immune responses and cell growth in a context-specific manner,and the vital roles of this pathway are beginning to be appreciated in crop *** recent remarkable advances in understanding the functions and molecular mechanisms of the RALF–FER pathway have also raised many interesting questions that need to be answered in the *** review mainly focuses on the roles of FER and other CrRLK1L members in modulating immune responses in the context of cell growth in response to their RALF peptide ligands and presents a brief outlook for future research.

Advances on the Molecular Mechanism of the Interaction between Ralstonia solanacearum and Hosts

Ralstonia solanacearum is an important model phytopathogenic bacterium that causes bacterial wilt disease on many plant species and leads to serious economic losses. The interactions between R. solanacearum and host plants have become a model system for the study of plants and pathogens interactions. This paper reviews the advances on the molecular mechanisms between R. solanacearum and hosts interaction including the formation of plant innate immunity, the suppression of plant innate immunity by this pathogen and the activation of effector-triggered immunity. Furthermore, we made a prospect on how to utilize the interaction mechanism between R. solanacearum and hosts to control the disease.

Ballistic performances of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures under high-velocity fragments

In this paper,the numerical simulation method is used to study the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures with the same mass under the vertical incidence of *** is paid to elucidating the influences of rod cross-section dimensions,structure height,structure layer,and rod inclination angle on the deformation mode,ballistic performances,and ability to change the ballistic direction of *** results show that the ballistic performances of hourglass lattice sandwich structures are mainly affected by their structural *** this respect,structural parameters optimization of the hourglass lattice sandwich structures enable one to effectively improve their ballistic limit velocity and,consequently,ballistic performances.

Resilience-incorporated seismic risk assessment of precast concrete frames with“dry”connections

A resilience-incorporated risk assessment framework is proposed and demonstrated in this study to manifest the advantageous seismic resilience of precast concrete frame(PCF)structures with“dry”connections in terms of their low damage and rapid *** framework integrates various uncertainties in the seismic hazard,fragility,capacity,demand,loss functions,and post-earthquake *** this study,the PCF structures are distinguished from ordinary reinforced concrete frame(RCF)structures by characterizing multiple limit states for the PCF based on its unique damage ***,probabilistic story-wise pushover analyses are performed to yield story-wise capacities for the predefined limit *** the seismic resilience analysis,a step-wise recovery model is proposed to idealize the functionality recovery process,with separate considerations of the repair and non-repair *** recovery model leverages the economic loss and downtime to delineate the stochastic post-earthquake recovery curves for the resilience loss *** such,contingencies in the probabilistic post-earthquake repairs are incorporated and the empirical judgments on the recovery parameters are largely *** proposed framework is demonstrated through a comparative study between two“dry”connected PCFs and one RCF designed as alternative structural systems for a prototype *** results from the risk quantification indicate that the PCFs show reduced loss hazards and lower expected losses relative to the ***,the PCF equipped with energy dissipation devices at the“dry”connections largely reduces the expected economic loss,downtime,and resilience loss by 29%,56%,and 60%,respectively,compared to the RCF.

New findings on the influence of El Nino events on tropical cyclone formation

Tropical cyclones typically form over warm tropical and subtropical ocean surfaces, as their formation and intensification rely primarily on the energy provided by the ocean. Pioneering research by Gray (1968) revealed that the formation of tropical cyclones requires the sea surface temperature (SST) to be no less than 26.5℃. Consequently, SST is commonly recognized as a crucial parameter among the environmental factors influencing tropical cyclone formation(Gray, 1979;Emanuel and Nolan, 2004).

The Functional Redundancy of Neddylation E2s and E3s in Modulating the Fitness of Regulatory T Cells

Neddylation is necessary for activation of Cullin-RING ligases(CRLs),which degrade various immune regulatory *** recent study showed that while depletion of neddylation E2-E3 pair Ube2f-Sag in regulatory T(T_(reg))cells had no obvious phenotype,the same depletion of either Ube2m or Rbx1 caused inflammation disorders with different *** these E2s or E3s compensate each other in functional regulations of T_(reg)cells is,however,previously *** this report,we generated Foxp3^(Cre);Ube2m^(fl/fl);Ube2f^(fl/fl)or Foxp3^(Cre);Rbx1^(fl/fl);Sag^(fl/fl)double-null mice by simultaneous deletion of both neddylation E2s or E3s in T_(reg)cells,***,Ube2m&Ube2f double-null mice developed much severe autoimmune phenotypes than did Ube2m-null mice,indicating that Ube2m markedly compensates Ube2f in T_(reg)*** minor worsened autoimmune phenotypes seen at the very early stage in Rbx1&Sag double-null than Rbx1-null mice is likely due to already severe phenotypes of the later,indicating a minor compensation of Rbx1 for *** RNA profiling-based analyses revealed that up-and down-regulations of few signaling pathways in T_(reg)cells are associated with the severity of autoimmune ***,severer inflammation phenotypes seen in mice with double E3-null than with double E2-null T_(reg)cells indicate a neddylation-independent mechanism of 2 E3s,also known to serve as the RING component of CRLs in regulation of T_(reg)cell fitness.

Rational surface charge engineering of haloalkane dehalogenase for boosting the enzymatic performance in organic solvent solutions

Biocatalysis in organic solvents(OSs)has numerous important applications,but native enzymes in OSs often exhibit limited catalytic ***,we proposed a computation-aided surface charge engineering strategy to improve the catalytic performance of haloalkane dehalogenase DhaA in OSs based on the energetic analysis of substrate binding to the DhaA *** variants with enhanced OS resistance were obtained by replacing negative charged residues on the surface with positive charged residue(Arg).Particularly,a four-substitution variant E16R/E93R/E121R/E257R exhibited the best catalytic performance(five-fold improvement in OS resistance and seven-fold half-life increase in 40%(vol)dimethylsulfoxide).As a result,the overall catalytic performance of the variant could be at least 26 times higher than the wild-type *** spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulation studies revealed that the residue substitution mainly enhanced OS resistance from four aspects:(a)improved the overall structural stability,(b)increased the hydrophobicity of the local microenvironment around the catalytic triad,(c)enriched the hydrophobic substrate around the enzyme molecule,and(d)lowered the contact frequency between OS molecules and the catalytic *** findings validate that computationaided surface charge engineering is an effective and ingenious rational strategy for tailoring enzyme performance in OSs.

Dual-ion carrier storage through Mg^(2+) addition for high-energy and long-life zinc-ion hybrid capacitor

Cation additives can efficiently enhance the total electrochemical capabilities of zinc-ion hybrid capacitors (ZHCs).However their energy storage mechanisms in zinc-based systems are still under ***,we modulate the electrolyte and achieve dual-ion storage by adding magnesium *** we assemble several Zn//activated carbon devices with different electrolyte concentrations and investigate their electrochemical reaction dynamic *** zinc-ion capacitor with Mg^(2+)mixed solution delivers 82 mAh·g^(-1)capacity at 1 A·g^(-1) and maintains 91%of the original capacitance after 10000 *** is superior to the other assembled zinc-ion devices in single-component *** finding demonstrates that the double-ion storage mechanism enables the superior rate performance and long cycle lifetime of ZHCs.

Enhancing performance of low-temperature processed CsPbI2Br all-inorganic perovskite solar cells using polyethylene oxide-modified TiO_(2)

CsPbX_(3)-based(X=I,Br,Cl)inorganic perovskite solar cells(PSCs)prepared by low-temperature process have attracted much attention because of their low cost and excellent thermal ***,the high trap state density and serious charge recombination between low-temperature processed TiO_(2)film and inorganic perovskite layer interface seriously restrict the performance of all-inorganic *** a thin polyethylene oxide(PEO)layer is employed to modify TiO_(2)film to passivate traps and promote carrier *** impacts of PEO layer on microstructure and photoelectric characteristics of TiO_(2)film and related devices are systematically *** results suggest that PEO modification can reduce the surface roughness of TiO_(2)film,decrease its average surface potential,and passivate trap *** optimal conditions,the champion efficiency of CsPbI_(2)Br PSCs with PEO-modified TiO_(2)(PEO-PSCs)has been improved to 11.24%from 9.03%of reference ***,the hysteresis behavior and charge recombination have been suppressed in PEO-PSCs.
