The transformation of uterine fibroids is common in relation to their development. Giant forms of cystic degeneration are rare. They raise diagnostic difficulties with other pelvic tumors, such as ovarian tumors and leiomyosarcomas. Magnetic resonance imaging specifies the original organ, the volume and the main relationships of fibromyoma with adjacent structures. The diagnosis of certainty is based on laparotomy coupled with histology. The authors illustrate these difficulties by observing a giant cystic degenerative fibroma in a 26-year-old G1P1 woman in the postpartum period.

Background:To determine the clinical and endoscopic demographic characteristics of the ingestion of acidic products in the digestive endoscopy unit of the Cocody University ***:This was a retrospective,descriptive and analytical study on endoscopic reports,which took place for five years,from January 1,2014,to December 31,*** patients were admitted to the digestive endoscopy unit with the indication of ingestion of caustic *** parameters studied:are demographic,clinical,and *** statistical tests used were Pearson’s CHI 2 and Fisher’s exact *** significance threshold was set at 5%.Results:83 patients were included for an endoscopic prevalence of 1.33%.The mean age was 20.77±16.58 years,with extremes ranging from 1 to 63 *** were divided into 34 men and 49 women for a sex ratio of *** circumstances were observed in 73.49%of cases,followed by attempted autolysis(26.51%).Bleach was the most offending caustic(75.90%),followed by hydrochloric acid(14.46%).FOGD was normal in 53.01%and revealed stage I(41.54%)digestive lesions,followed by stage II(35.39%)and stage III(21.53%).The lesions were preferentially gastric(36.11%),esogastroduodenal(27.78%),and esogastric(22.23%).Based on severity,54.55%of esophageal lesions were stage IIA,53.12%were stage I gastric lesions,and 54.55%were stage IIA duodenal *** case of gastric perforation was noted(1.54%).In univariate analysis,we found a statistically significant link between the age group of 1–14 years and the accidental intake of caustics(P<0.001)on the one hand and the other hand between the age group of 26 years and over and taking for autolysis(P=0.02).Likewise,bleaching was responsible for less severe lesions(P=0.006).Conclusions:The seriousness of the ingestion of caustic products requires early,specialized and multidisciplinary management to improve the short,medium,and long-term prognosis of patients.

Most cognitive effects of Organophosphate Pesticides (OP) are induced after exposure to parathion, chlorpyrifos and diazinon, which the usage has been restricted because of overt signs of their toxicities. In this study, we investigate whether developmental exposure to Malathion could impair spatial learning and recognition memory in male rats. Animals exposed by intragastric route, from in utero to young adult stage, to incremental doses of Malathion dissolved in corn oil;100, 200 and 300 mg/kg of body weight, and one control group are given corn oil. Then, cognitive and behaveioral abilities are assessed using Barnes maze and object recognition memory task. Malathion administration at 300 mg/kg is toxic to pregnant dams, and pups are stillborns. Rats exposed to 200 mg/kg make a significant working memory error, and require more time to find an escape box during the initial training phase of Barnes maze. However, fewer errors are made in rats exposed to 100 mg/kg. For reversal learning task, the high dose group shows great deficits in spatial strategy to locate the new position of the box. With respect to recognition task, both dose 100 and 200 mg/kg impair significant short-term (2 h after habituation phase) object recognition memory, but long-term (24 h after habituation phase) recognition memory is intact in high dose group. The current study also reveals that all treatments induce high significant neocortex acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity inhibition, but 100 mg/kg dose is not sufficient to disrupt great hippocampal activity alteration. These results suggest that developmental exposure to Malathion, despite low toxicity described, may induce late-emerging spatial learning and recognition memorialterations. Moreover, Cortical and hippocampal area that support strongly these behaviors remain sensitive to incremental doses of Malathion.

Aim: The aim was to study the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of pancreatic cancers in Ivory Coast. Materials and methods: A retrospective multi-center and multidisciplinary study aimed at describing sixteen years and four months from January 1, 2000 to April 30, 2016 in several hospitals in the city of Abidjan taking charge of pancreatic cancers (hepato-gas troenterology services of the universities hospitals of Cocody and Yopougon), internal medicine departments of University Hospital of Treichville and Abidjan Military Hospital, the department of oncology of the university hospital center of Treichville, private clinics (DANGA, PISAM and GMP), the COBA center in Treichville. The diagnosis of cancer was based on either histological criteria or a set of clinical and paraclinical arguments. Patients whose files did not include imaging were excluded from this study. The following parameters were collected: age, sex, reason for consultation, physical signs, personal and family antecedents, tumor characteristics, delay in diagnosis and the nature of the treatment administered. Results: We have observed 150 cases of pancreatic cancer. The mean age of patients was 59.09 years with extremes ranging from 24 years to 88 years. Our study population consisted of 98 men and 52 women (sex ratio 1.88). Risk factors were dominated by diabetes 20.7%. Epigastralgia is the main reason for consultation (48%). The tumor was localized at the cephalic level in 84.67%. In 13 cases the diagnosis was histological and was dominated by adenocarcinoma (100%). The majority of our patients was seen at an advanced stage of the disease: stage IV (74.56%). The average time to diagnosis was 2.76 months. Fourteen of our patients (9.33%) had benefited surgery. This was curative surgery in 35.71% (n = 5) and palliative in 64.29% (n = 9). Among those who benefited from this curative surgery, three died two months after surgery and two lost to follow-up. Hydrological Characterization of Water Resources Used for Sugarcane Production in the Sugar Complexes of Ferkessedougou (North of Côte d’Ivoire)

Water resources, although renewable, are limited and threatened by climate change and anthropic activities. Assessment and forecasting of these resources can provide valuable information for water resource planners. This study aims to quantify the surface water resources used for sugarcane production in sugar complexes of Ferkessedougou. This is based on the morphological characterization of the river Morrison and Lopkoho dams and on extreme daily flow probability of occurrence estimation using frequency analysis method. The bathymetric survey showed that the Morrison Dam impoundment had a maximum depth of 11.98 m;a water capacity of 11,656,735.5 m3. For the Lokpoho dam, the reservoir had a maximum depth of 8.82 m, which corresponds to a water volume of 4,354,531.5 m3. Nevertheless, the water capacity of these reservoirs is greatly reduced by a large volume of sediment estimated at 1,013,058.96 m3 for Morrison and 599,740 m3 for Lokpoho. Statistical analysis of maximum daily flows shows that flows between 73.9 and 100 m3/s have the potential to occur every five years at the Route Korhogo Badikaha hydrometric station. The recurrence of the decennial (298 m3) and quinquenal (248 m3) flows shows the importance of the flood flows of the Bandama River. It also shows that the low water levels of the Bandama are very pronounced. The minimum flow that SUCAF-CI water managers should expect every five years is 1.36 m3/s and the ten-year low flow is 2.10 m3/s. These results are indicators of water scarcity risks and could guide decision making in the Ferkessedougou sugar complexes.

Interest of SAAG in Etiological Diagnosis of Ascites in African Black

Purpose: To show the interest of the serum-ascites concentration gradient in albumin (SAAG) in the etiological diagnosis of ascites in African black. Materiel and Methods: This was a monocentric observational and analytical study performed on patients over 15 years old and hospitalized in the Hepato-Gastroenterology department of Cocody from January 1st, 2010 to March 31st, 2017 for ascites. The cytology and chemistry of the ascites fluid and the protidogram were performed. The main outcome measure was the prediction of portal hypertension (PHT) or non-portal hypertension related causes of ascites from SAAG. Results: The hospital prevalence of ascites was 11%. There were 82 women (46.9%) and 93 men (53.1%) with a sex ratio (M/F) of 1.1. SAAG was low in 68.6% of cases and high in 31.4% of cases. The most common etiologies were post-viral cirrhosis (74%), HCC (16.60%) and peritoneal tuberculosis (13.7%) respectively. In the case of high SAAG, 91% of ascites related to PHT were observed, but also 77.5% of a low SAAG corresponded to ascites related to PHT (p = 0.024) with Se = 35% Sp = 84% and accuracy = 44%. All patients with peritoneal tuberculosis had a SAAG low of less than 1.1 g/dl significantly (p = 0.002). SAAG had a diagnostic performance of 89% in peritoneal tuberculosis at the cutoff value of ?1.24 g/dl (AUROC = 0.91, Se = 96%, Sp = 86%) while in post viral hepatitis cirrhosis at a threshold of 0.58 g/dl the diagnostic performance was 60% (AUROC = 0.69, Se = 53%, Sp = 79%). Conclusion: The simple technical SAAG, allowing to distinguish the ascites linked to the PHT and the ascites not bound to the PHT, can be used like a method of diagnosis of the etiologies of the ascites especially in the peritoneal tuberculosis in the African countries low income.

Mapping of Malaria Risk Related to Climatic and Environmental Factors by Multicriteria Analysis in the MarahouéRegion of Côte d’Ivoire

Malaria, a febrile human disease transmitted by female anopheles whose ecology is linked to water, is a major public health problem in Côte d’Ivoire, more precisely in the Marahoué region located in the southwest of the country. In order to effectively control this disease, it is necessary to understand the etiology and the diffusion pattern of the vectors. This justifies this study, which proposes to determine the areas at risk of malaria transmission in order to carry out an effective fight against this disease in this region of Côte d’Ivoire. To achieve this, a combined approach of geographic information systems and multicriteria analysis was adopted. The analysis reveals that the south and northwest of the Marahoué region present a high risk for malaria transmission. This risk is linked to indicators such as climatic factors that cover 48.36% of the study area, environmental factors such as vegetation cover (NDVI), soil moisture (NDWI), altitude, hydrography (water point) and population that covers 55.29% of the area and land use. Also, the results indicated that 50.70% of the region has favorable conditions for malaria transmission. Overall, climatic and environmental indicators are the risk factors associated with the resurgence of malaria.

Incorporation of Crop Residues into Soil: A Practice to Improve Soil Chemical Properties

Crop residues have the potential to enhance soil fertility, but this is dependent on their biochemical properties. This study aimed to evaluate the chemical composition, and nutrients release patterns of selected crop residues (corn stalk, rice straw, millet straw and sorghum stalk). Thus, 20 g of each crop residue were put in litter bags and placed in a plastic pot containing 10 kg of soil with a moisture content of 40% - 60%. Five replications were considered per type of residue and some samples were taken every 4 weeks. Results showed that crop residues got a pH varying between 5.09 and 6.5. The lowest C content (33.11%) and nitrogen (0.27%) were measured in sorghum stalk when the highest C content (47.6%) and nitrogen content (0.55%) were registered in corn stalk. The highest phosphorus content (0.58%) was got in corn stalk. Potassium content was higher in millet straw than in others. The highest calcium content (0.37%) and magnesium (0.29%) were found in rice straw. There was an increase of soil chemical composition after crop residues burial. Significant increase in carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus content was noted in soil at week 4 with the highest at week 16. At the end of the experiment, the highest C content (53.1%) and the highest nitrogen content (0.88%) in the soil were observed after burial of rice straw. The highest phosphorus content (0.82%) registered in the soil was got with millet straw. Nutrient release efficiency of crop residues occurred in the following order: rice straw > millet straw > sorghum stalk > corn stalk. This study has demonstrated that rice straw and millet straw released nutrients faster and this is beneficial for early planted crops, while sorghum stalk and corn stalk released nutrients slowly which is appropriate for long-term availability of plant nutrients.

Screening for Hepatitis B and C in Occupational Settings: Cross-Sectional Study about 4268 Corporates Agents in Cote d’Ivoire

Aim: To screen hepatitis B and C in occupational setting. Methods: Cross-sectional study multicenter in 16 enterprises (one occupational exposure;5602 agents). Screening was preceded by information, sensibilisation and informed consenting physician labor, labor union and agents. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and antibodies anti-hepatitis C (Elisa, third generation) were tested in all. For those with HBsAg positive, this test was completed by IgM and IgG, anti HBc, HBeAg, antibodies anti HBe, transaminases and HBB DNA;for those with positive anti-VHC antibodies, test was completed by transaminases and VHC’s RNA. Results: Rate of participation was 76.2% (4268/5602 labors). HBsAg or hepatitis C antibodies were positives in 425 (9.9%) of cases (HBsAg positive: 8.48%;Hepatitis C Antibodies positives: 1.50%;both: 0.05%). In HBsAg positive, viral replication and cytolysis were seen respectively in 2.5 % and 18.2%. According with transaminases, serologic markers and viral load, immunotolerance, inactive and immuno active phase were suspected in 0.56%, 80.9% and 1.6% of cases. In hepatitis C antibodies positives persons, any had viral replication but cytolysis was observed in 33.3% (n = 21). HBsAg was significantively (p < 0.00001) higher in exposed occupational enterprise versus non-occupational setting (14.4% vs 7.8%). They were no differences (p = 0.71) about hepatitis C antibodies in the two setting (1.8% vs 1.7%). Conclusion: Prevalence of HBsAg and hepatitis C antibodies was high in occupational setting in hepatitis endemic country. It’s important to screen all of person in these setting with no consideration with blood exposed or not exposed enterprise.
