Background:An ideal tension-relieving suture should be efficient for>3 months to retrieve normal tensile *** preexisting suturing techniques provided tension elimination followed by relapse and scar proliferation due to absorption and cut-through of the *** study introduces a simple but effective suture technique developed by a senior author(ZYX)to solve this ***:A total of 120 patients with pathological scar(PS)had intervention treatment with the proposed suturing strategy at three centers from January 2018 to January 2021.A slowly absorbable 2-0 barbed suturewas used for subcutaneous tension relieving with a set-back from the wound edge and a horizontal interval between proposed inserting points of 1 *** Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale(POSAS),scar width,perfusion and eversion of the wound edge were evaluated at 3-,6-and 12-month *** time needed to place the tension-relieving suture was recorded and relapse was monitored for 18 months ***:In total,76 trunks,32 extremities and 12 cervical PS were included,with an average subcutaneous tension-relieving suture time of 5 *** Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale(POSAS)score decreased from 84.70±7.06 preoperatively to 28.83±3.09,26.14±1.92 and 24.71±2.00 at 3,6 and 12 months postoperatively,respectively(p<0.0001).The scar widths were 0.17±0.08,0.25±0.09 and 0.33±0.10 cm,respectively,with perfusion significantly decreased from 213.64±14.97 to 112.23±8.18 at 6 months(p<0.0001).The wound edge flattened out during the first 3 months in most cases with only two scar ***:Zhang’s suture technique provides a rapid and long-lasting tension-relieving effect with ideal scar appearances and lower relapse rates in the surgical management of PS.

Evaluation of fatigue and rutting properties of asphalt binderand mastic modified by synthesized polyurethane

Downed logs improve soil properties in old-growth temperate forests of northern Iran

Dead trees, particularly downed logs, play an important role in the dynamics of forest ecosystem. Contribution of decaying wood to C and nutrient pools of forest soils depends on the tree species and degree of wood decay. However, the extent to which the downed logs affect the soil properties of temperate forests has rarely been evaluated. In this study, a mixed beech forest was selected in Liresar region of Mazandaran Province, northern Iran, to investigate if and how the presence of downed logs affected soil quality and function by comparing soils underneath degraded logs and nearby soils of the two dominant tree species(beech and hornbeam). We then explored how these effects occurred as downed logs decomposed by comparing the woods of both tree species at four degrees of decomposition. Degree of decay of downed logs was classified into four classes(DC1–DC4). Eight dead trees of each tree species were selected at the center of each sample plot. Three composite soil samples underneath each decaying log and 100 cm away from a decaying log were collected at two soil depths(0–15 and 15–30 cm) to analyze soil main physicochemical properties and microbial activity. The results revealed that downed logs affected soil physical(5% wetter than control soils), chemical(2% lower pH, 100% increase in organic C and total N in the case of hornbeam, and 2% increase in P), and biological characteristics(soil microbial respiration enhanced by 10%, and microbial biomass C 620 and 351.5 mg kg-1 and microbial biomass N 66.47 and 32.18 mg kg-1, respectively, in the cases of beech and hornbeam), thus resulting in significantly different soil microsites from those without downed logs. Presence of downed logs increased soil microbial activity and soil fertility as wood decayed. Thus, the presence of downed logs is an important factor influencing forest soils and should be taken into consideration in forest management practices.

Leaf macro-and micro-morphological altitudinal variability of Carpinus betulus in the Hyrcanian forest (Iran)

We investigated the altitudinal variation of Carpinus betulus L. in the Hyrcanian forest using leaf macro-morphological and micro-morphological traits. We collected a total of 1600 leaves from two locations. In each location, we sampled six populations along an altitudinal gradient ranging from 100 m to 1,150 m. We found that trees in the higher elevations have smaller leaf lamina than those in the lower elevations. In contrast, leaf mass per area was high at low altitudes and increased newly at the higher ones. Stomatal dimension was negatively correlated with elevation, while stomatal density was positively correlated with elevation. We also found that two transects showed the same plasticity trend. Leaf area showed the highest plasticity, while the number of veins showed the lowest plasticity. This study shows that altitude, and related temperature and rainfall, represents an important driving force in Carpinus betulus leaf morphological variation. Moreover, our results suggest that leaf area, leaf mass per area and stomatal density could influence the species responses to different ecological conditions.

Sound pollution is one of the most important urban problems which endangers mental and physical health of the *** study was aimed to assess the influence of different tree species,including Fraxinus rotundifolia,Robinia pseudoacacia,Platanus orientalis,Platycladus orientalis,and Pinus eldarica,in reducing noise pollution in the Abidar Forest Park.A further objective was to identify the contaminated areas of Sanandaj city and to propose suitable noise absorbent tree species in consistent *** each tree stands the noise measurements were performed during intervals at frequencies of 250,500 and 1000 Hz,besides an open area with the same *** regards to the second purpose,a total of 50 stations with residential,commercial,residentialcommercial,and green space applications were selected across the *** Continuous Sound Pressure Level(Leq)was determined in five replicates for 30 *** measurements were performed under stable weather conditions and low wind velocity at 17:00(traffic peak)in summer and *** of the Leq values were above the threshold noise *** highest noise reduction was recorded in summer(i.e.,green season);Platanus and Platycladus species demonstrated the highest and lowest noise absorption(31.43 dB and 22.28 dB,respectively).Furthermore,a meaningful difference was observed between Leq values of commercial,residential,commercial-residential,and green space urban applications,and the central parts of the city showed noticeable noise *** together,due to being exposed to higher than the acceptable threshold noise level,the residents of Sanandaj will be endangered to health problems in the near future;thus consideration should be given to the noise pollution sources.

Role of follicle-stimulating hormone and estradiol benzoate in recovering spermatogenesis in tamoxifen-injured rats

Objective:To evaluate the effects of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and estradiol benzoate (EB) on the recovery of spermatogenesis, histology, sexual hormones levels and testicular gene expression in testes of tamoxifen-injured ***:Forty adult rats were divided into eight groups in a factorial arrangement of tamoxifen and hormonal treatments. Half of the groups orally received 0.6 mg/kg tamoxifen, and 30 d later tamoxifen and no-tamoxifen groups (controls) were paired and assigned into four hormonal treatments with daily intramuscular injections for 10 consecutive days: 1 mL saline (control);7.5 IU FSH;12 μg/kg EB;and 7.5 IU FSH+12 μg/kg EB. One day after the last treatment, spermatozoa were recovered from epididymis, blood was processed for sex hormones concentration (testosterone, FSH and luteinizing hormone) and testes were processed for histology and RNA extraction for expression of genes related to apoptosis [caspase 3, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2)].Results: Control groups did not show significant changes in most parameters, but hormonal treatments decreased caspase 3 and iNOS and increased Bcl-2 expression. Tamoxifen significantly decreased counts, motility and viability of spermatozoa, Bcl-2 expression and sex hormones. It increased intertubular space, caspase 3 and iNOS expression, and induced seminiferous tubular atrophy. The hormonal treatments reverted spermatogenesis, hormonal levels and histology compared with controls, however not attaining the same sperm quality as ***:Tamoxifen is clearly detrimental to spermatogenesis and overall testicular structure and function, whereas hormonal therapy with FSH and EB can improve testicular function and revert tamoxifen-induced azoospermia.

Supplementation at casing to improve yield and quality of white button mushroom

Supplementation of substrate at casing to increase the yield and quality of mushroom [Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Sing] is an important practice in commercial production of white button mushroom. This project was done to study the effects of supplementing the compost at casing with ground corn and soybean seed applied at: 0 gas control, 17, 34 and51 gper17 kgcompost on production and harvest quality of A. bisporus. There were significant differences between supplemented and non-supplemented substrates. The34 gsoybean and51 gcorn treatments had the highest yield. There were significant differences in quality indices of mushroom due to the type and amount of the supplement. The51 gsoybean supplement produced higher protein compared with other substrates. The highest vitamin C, total phenol, total soluble solids and antioxidant capacity obtained of 34 and51 gsoybeans or 34 and51 gcorn, respectively. Increased production and quality of A. bisporus may be achieved by addition of suitable amounts of supplements.

Is coping strategies predictor of anxiety and depression in couple infertile?

Background: Infertility is a complex crisis of life and increases psychological difficulties such as anxiety and depression. Identification of copy strategies for stressful events like infertility is important. The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between coping strategies with anxiety and depression symptoms in men and women’s infertile. Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted from 2011-2012 on 168 Iranian infertile couples referred to the Fatemeh Zahra infertility and reproductive health research center of Babol university of medical science to initiate assistant reproductive technologies and completed the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ), The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI).The results were analyzed using t-test, the Pearson correlation and the stepwise model of multiple regression analysis. P Results: Escape/ avoidance contributed the greatest amount of unique variance to the model for anxiety/de-pression of infertile women (P < 0.0001, P < 0.001) and followed by distancing (P < 0.0001, P < 0.01), accepting responsibility(P < 0.0001, P < 0.01). Seeking social support was the negative significantly predictor for both anxiety and depression in infertile women (P < 0.01, P < 0.01), but planful problem solving was the inversely predictor for only depression in infertile women (P < 0.01). Escape/avoidance was the only predictor factor of the model anxiety for infertile men (P < 0.01). Escape/avoidance and self controlling were the positive predictor (P < 0.001) and planful problem solving was the negative predictor for men depression (P Conclusion: men and women infertile who use disproportionally maladaptive coping strategies such as escape/avoidance are predisposed to anxiety and depression symptoms. How using the coping strategies is very important in expressing anxiety and depression in infertile couples and training the adaptive coping strategies suggested by counseling centers.
