In this work,the thermal degradation and drying of bio-hardeners are *** bio-hardeners based on exudates of Senegalia senegal,Vachellia nilotica,Vachellia seyal,and Acacia siebteriana were analyzed by FTIR and thermogravimetric analysis,and a desorption study was also *** analysis by infrared spectroscopy indicates the existence of oligomers of different types all giving 5-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethylfuran and 2,5-dihydroxymethylfuran which are then the real hardening *** pyrolysis of these extracts reveals three main regions of mass loss,a first region is located between 25℃and 110℃reflecting the loss of water from the adhesive and the formation of some traces of volatile organic compounds such as CO_(2)and CO,a second zone characterized by the release of CO,CO_(2)and CH4 gases with peaks between 110°and 798.8℃.At the end of the analysis,about 22%of the initial mass remains undecomposed,this mass corresponds to the rigid segments of the bio-hardener which are not completely decomposed.

Prospective study comparing hepatic steatosis assessment by magnetic resonance imaging and four ultrasound methods in 105 successive patients

BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is becoming a major health problem,resulting in hepatic,metabolic and cardio-vascular *** To evaluate new ultrasonographic tools to detect and measure hepatic *** We prospectively included 105 patients referred to our liver unit for NAFLD suspicion or *** underwent ultrasonographic measurement of liver sound speed estimation(SSe)and attenuation coefficient(AC)using Aixplorer MACH 30(Supersonic Imagine,France),continuous controlled attenuation parameter(cCAP)using Fibroscan(echosens,France)and standard liver ultrasound with hepato-renal index(HRI)*** steatosis was then classified according to magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction(PDFF).Receiver operating curve(ROC)analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic performance in the diagnosis of *** Most patients were overweight or obese(90%)and had metabolic syndrome(70%).One third suffered from *** was identified in 85 patients(81%)according to ***-one patients(20%)had advanced liver ***,AC,cCAP and HRI correlated with PDFF,with respective Spearman correlation coefficient of-0.39,0.42,0.54 and 0.59(Pea under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)for detection of steatosis with HRI was 0.91(0.83-0.99),with the best cut-off value being 1.3(Se=83%,Sp=98%).The optimal cCAP threshold of 275 dB/m,corresponding to the recent eASL-suggested threshold,had a sensitivity of 72%and a specificity of 80%.Corresponding AUROC was 0.79(0.66-0.92).The diagnostic accuracy of cCAP was more reliable when standard deviation waseshold of 0.42 dB/cm/MHz had an AUROC was 0.82(0.70-0.93).SSe performed moderately with an AUROC of 0.73(0.62-0.84).CONCLUSION Among all ultrasonographic tools evaluated in this study,including new-generation tools such as cCAP and SSe,HRI had the best *** is also the simple

In this article, we present the study of a double-pass air insulated by crushed millet stem mixed with gum arabic. The study is carried out based on mathematical models obtained by writing energy conservation laws in the various components of the system, which made it possible to determine the evolution of the air temperature as a function of the length of the absorber and to make a comparison with the experimental results. After comparing the results obtained with those found in the literature, the influence of some physical and geometrical parameters on the performance of the solar thermal collector is presented.

Approaches for representing hydro-mechanical coupling between sub-surface excavations and argillaceous porous media at the ventilation experiment, Mont Terri

At the Mont Terri Underground Research Laboratory （Switzerland）, a field-scale investigation has been conducted in order to investigate the hydro-mechanical and chemical perturbations induced in the argilla- ceous formation by forced ventilation through a tunnel. This experiment has been selected to be used for processing model development and validation in the international project DeCOVALeX-2011. The con- ceptual and mathematical representation of the engineered void, which itself forms a major part of the experiment and is not simply a boundary condition, is the subject of this paper. A variety of approaches have been examined by the contributors to DeCOVALeX and a summary of their findings is presented here. Two major aspects are discussed. Firstly, the approaches for the treatment of the surface condition at the porous media/tunnel interface are examined, with two equivalent but differing formulations successfully demonstrated. Secondly, approaches for representing the tunnel with associated air and water vapour movement, when coupled with the hydro-mechanical （HM） representation of the porous medium, are also examined. It is clearly demonstrated that, for the experimental conditions of the ventilation experiment （Ve） that abstracted physical and empirical models of the tunnel, can be used successfully to represent the hydraulic behaviour of the tunnel and the hydraulic interaction between the tunnel and the surrounding rock mass.

Assessment of Hybrid Concentrated Solar Power-Biomass Plant Generation Potential in Sahel: Case Study of Senegal

Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) is non-existent in Sahel. Such a situation arises from the high investment costs required by these energy infrastructures and from a lack of information on the identification of suitable sites to accommodate them. Conversely, CSP-biomass plants due to lower investment may be an option for CSP penetration in Sahel where Direct Normal Irradiation (DNI) is between 1400 kWh/m2/year and 2000 kWh/m2/year and significant biomass potential. This work presents the results of an identification of suitable sites for hybrid CSP-Biomass in the Sahel, case study of Senegal, taking into account the Direct Normal Irradiation, the availability of water, space and biomass potential. The identified sites have a DNI > 1600 kWh/m2/year. The biogas production capacity is equivalent to 5,096,563 m3/year. The quantity of Typha Australis, invasive plant in Senegal river valley available is estimated at more than 3 million tons. The capacity of electrical energy in this zone is estimated at 6.89 GWe for an installation surface estimated at 275.61 km2. The establishment of CSP/hybrid plants can also contribute to combat the proliferation of Typha Australis.

Synthesis of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by Induction Thermal Plasma

The production of high quality single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)on a bulk scale has been an issue of considerable ***,it has been demonstrated that high quality SWCNTs can be continuously synthesized on large scale by using induction thermal plasma *** this process,the high energy density of the thermal plasma is employed to generate dense vapor-phase precursors for the synthesis of *** the current reactor system,a carbon soot product which contains approximately 40 wt%of SWCNTs can be continuously synthesized at the high production rate of~100 g/*** this article,our recent research efforts to achieve major advances in this technology are ***,the processing parameters involved are examined systematically in order to evaluate their individual inuences on the SWCNT synthesis.Based on these results,the appropriate operating conditions of the induction thermal plasma process for an effective synthesis of SWCNTs are discussed.A characterization study has also been performed on the SWCNTs produced under the optimum processing ***,a mathematical model of the process currently under development is *** model will help us to better understand the synthesis of SWCNTs in the induction plasma process.

High-Throughput Measurements of Stem Characteristics to estimate ear Density and Above-Ground Biomass

Total above-ground biomass at harvest and ear density are two important traits that characterize wheat *** experiments were carried out in two different sites where several genotypes were grown under contrasted irrigation and nitrogen treatments.A high spatial resolution RGB camera was used to capture the residual stems standing straight after the cutting by the combine machine during *** provided a ground spatial resolution better than 0.2 mm.A Faster Regional Convolutional Neural Network(Faster-RCNN)deep-learning model was first trained to identify the stems cross *** showed that the identification provided precision and recall close to 95%.Further,the balance between precision and recall allowed getting accurate estimates of the stem density with a relative RMSe close to 7%and robustness across the two experimental *** estimated stem density was also compared with the ear density measured in the field with traditional methods.A very high correlation was found with almost no bias,indicating that the stem density could be a good proxy of the ear *** heritability/repeatability evaluated over 16 genotypes in one of the two experiments was slightly higher(80%)than that of the ear density(78%).The diameter of each stem was computed from the profile of gray values in the extracts of the stem cross *** show that the stem diameters follow a gamma distribution over eachmicroplot with an average diameter close to ***,the biovolume computed as the product of the average stem diameter,the stem density,and plant height is closely related to the above-ground biomass at harvest with a relative RMSe of 6%.Possible limitations of the findings and future applications are finally discussed.

In this study,the environmental impacts of six commercial chloride-based de-icer products,including Rock Salt and Salt Brine,were *** nutrients,oxygen demand,heavy metal concentration,corrosion and toxicity of all six de-icers were *** an assumed 500-fold dilution,the test results were compared to the public water-quality *** results show that the selected chemical de-icers have little chance of severely damaging the environment and ecosystem under a normal dilution ***,attention needs to be paid to small water bodies and sensitive receiving water.

GeneCloud Reveals Semantic enrichment in Lists of Gene Descriptions

Revealing the over-represented functions in a particular gene list is a particular important post-genomic challenge. Genome-wide investigations generate gene lists from which meaningful infor- mation has to be extracted. This information is key to orient in planta investigations and to define the biological significance of genome-wide reprogramming. Here we describe the develop- ment and use of the GeneCIoud algorithm, which retrieves the over-represented semantic terms in the description of a gene list. We demonstrate that GeneCIoud can pinpoint key features in lists of genes equivalent to Gene Ontology （GO） annotation functional enrichment and can provide several new insights. This tool has been embodied in a web interface available at https：//*** and works for Arabidopsis and rice.
