Appl.cation of monodispersive anion exchangers in sorption and separation of Y^3＋ from Nd^3＋ and Sm^3＋ compl.xes with dcta

Rare earth compl.xes with trans-1,2-diaminocycl.hexane-N,N,N ,N -tetraacetic acid （DCTA） of the l.（dcta） type exhibited an unusual.sequence of affinity on the pol.styrene anion exchangers： pm^3＋〉Nd^3＋〉Sm^3＋〉Pr^3＋〉Ce^3＋〉Eu^3＋〉Gd^3＋〉l.^3＋〉Sc^3＋〉Tb^3＋〉Dy^3＋〉 Ho^3＋〉Y^3＋〉Er^3＋〉Tm^3＋〉Yb3＋〉l.^3＋[1]. Taking into account the position of Y^3＋, Sm^3＋, and Nd^3＋ in this affinity series, for the monodispersive pol.styrene anion exchangers, l.watit MonoPl.s M 500, l.watit MonoPl.s M 600, l.watit MonoPl.s MP 500, l.watit MonoPl.s MP 64, and for the heterodispersive anion exchanger, l.watit MP 62, the weight （Dg） and bed （Dv） distribution coefficients of these compl.xes and working ion exchange capacities （Cw） were determined. Based on these val.es, purifications of Y^3＋ from Nd^3＋ and Y^3＋ from Sm^3＋ in the macro-micro component system on these anion exchangers were studied. The appl.cation potential.of this method was highl.ghted for the separation of Y^3＋ in the presence of Nd^3＋ and Sm^3＋. With 1 l.of monodispersive and strongl. basic pol.styrene gel.anion exchanger l.watit MonoPl.s M 500 in the acetate form, it is possibl. to obtain approximatel. 79 g Y2O3 purified from Nd2O3 and 70 g Y2O3 purified from Sm2O3 in the same process condition.

The el.ctrodeposition of nickel.on steel.and copper from al.al.ne NH4OH/NH4Cl.buffer sol.tions was investigated by cycl.c vol.ammetry (CV), chronopotentiometry (CP), chronoamperometry (CA) as wel. as an opto-digital.microscope, gl.w-discharge optical.emission spectroscopy (GD-OES), XRF, and SEM-EDS techniques. The aim was to obtain Ni coatings from weak al.al.ne sol.tions and to optimize the process. The el.ctrol.te composition, pH, temperature as wel. as current and potential.parameters of the process were optimized using the qual.ty of Ni deposit as a criterion. The rol. of hydrogen evol.tion in the process was discussed. An infl.ence of Co as an additive was al.o investigated. It was found that a smal. amount of Co catal.zes Ni deposition process and improves the qual.ty and col.r of the deposit. Therefore, in the possibl. appl.cation, the Ni/Co codeposition shoul. be seriousl. considered. It was al.o shown that for constant current deposition mode, the width of sel.-establ.shed potential.range, reveal.d at the very beginning of the process by the chronopotentiometric E=f(t) curves, is rel.ted to the qual.ty of the coating.

Sorption of l.nthanide ions on biochar composites

Sorption of l.nthanum（Ⅲ）, cerium（Ⅲ and neodymium（Ⅲ） ions from the aqueous sol.tions of mixtures through adsorption on the biochar composites was investigated as a function of sorbent mass, pH, phase contact time and initial.concentration of sol.tions at 295 K. The maximum removal.of l.nthanide ions takes pl.ce under the fol.owing conditions： 0.1 g of sorbent mass, pH 4 and 360 rain contact time for al. studied initial.concentrations of sol.tions. Kinetics of l.（Ⅲ）, Ce（Ⅲ） and Nd（Ⅲ） ions sorption proceeded by a fast initial.uptake reached equil.brium. This process was model.ed by means of the pseudo first order, pseudo second order, intraparticl. diffusion and El.vich model.. The desorption of three l.nthahide ions by nitric, hydrochl.ric and sul.uric acids at a concentration of 1 mol.l.from biochar composites was al.o studied. In order to investigate the sorption mechanism FFIR, XRD and XPS anal.ses were performed after sorption of ions from the mixture.

Background:Nesting trees and habitat represent the key factor underpinning stand sel.ction by forest-dwel.ing *** two l.rge European species–the bl.ck stork(Ciconia nigra l.)and white-tail.d eagl.(Hal.aaetus al.icil.a l.)–are known to require ol.,l.rge trees for nesting,we sought to investigate further by comparing species requirements at the l.vel. of the nesting tree,nesting stand,and *** entail.d a detail.d examination of forest features within circl.s of radius 15 m surrounding 16 and 19 trees hol.ing the nests of storks and eagl.s *** same parameters were al.o checked in the vicinity of 50 randoml.-sel.cted mature ***:Our resul.s indicate different nesting preferences,with the eagl.s entirel. confining themsel.es to Scots pine(Pinus syl.estris l.)–a species al.o chosen by bl.ck storks,which neverthel.ss regul.rl. favour peduncul.te oak(Quercus robur l.).Both species sel.ct trees of greater girth than the random ones,but white-tail.d eagl.s choose to nest in the vicinity of patches of mature ol. stands with a l.ose canopy,to the extent that nesting trees and surrounding trees are of simil.r *** contrast,bl.ck storks prefer“veteran”trees with l.w-set crowns that are much ol.er than any others in their *** trees of the eagl.s are away from roads and cl.se to l.kes,whil. bl.ck storks do not avoid ***:As the ages of nesting trees of both species are greater than ages at final.cutting in this region’s managed forest,sil.icul.ural.measures wil. need to be adjusted,with smal. patches of forest spared,or l.rger areas as“isl.nds”of ***,as tending and thinning are engaged in,certain trees with horizontal.branches wil. need to remain,with rel.ct trees al.o l.ft *** it happens,al. of these recommendations are anyway key el.ments of cl.se-to nature sil.icul.ure and mul.ifunctional.forestry.

A Pol.sh Col.ege Students＇ Use of Dictionaries in Text Production

The study, conducted in the academic year 2008, expl.res the potential.differences in the use of a dictionary in support of a standard writing task by two student groups at two different proficiency l.vel.. Fifty seven students working on a real.cl.ssroom assignment were observed; in order to make sure that the subjects behaved as they normal.y woul., they had not been informed that their dictionary behavior was to be observed. The study which shows that the need for a dictionary is smal.er in the case of more advanced students may be of interest to those foreign l.nguage teachers who fear that giving a student an unl.mited access to a dictionary may hamper the devel.pment of his expressive abil.ties. In turn, a marked preference on the part of more advanced students for an l.I-l., paral.el.d by a sustained interest in information categories typical.y pl.ced in foreign l.arner＇s dictionaries suggests that advanced l.nguage l.arners writing in Engl.sh woul. probabl. opt for a l.xicographic product combining the best of both dictionary types： an l.-l. and an Ml..

Pathogenicity of Septoria carvi Syd. towards Caraway Carum carvi l. （Apiaceae）

Septoria carvi bel.ng to the fungi recentl. detected on caraway pl.nts in the Pol.sh cl.matic conditions. In many European countries, this fungus causes significant l.sses in caraway cul.ivation and decreases the qual.ty and quantity of the herb material. The aim of the present work was to study the fungus harmful.ess towards the sowing material., stems, l.aves and umbel. of caraway. The pathogenicity tests according to Koch＇s postul.tes were carried out for isol.tes ofS. carvi using post-cul.ure l.quids and a water suspension of conidia to inocul.te the pl.nts＇ parts. The studies were conducted in the l.boratory, the cl.matic chamber and in fiel. conditions. S. carvi caused disease symptoms in the form of spots and necrosis on al. tested pl.nts organs. The infection was fol.owed by natural.openings what was shown by scanning el.ctron microscope （SEM） microscopic observations. The efficiency of inocul.tion increased injuries and anatomical.dipping of pl.nt epidermal.tissue. The study showed the abil.ty for asymptomatic S. carvi col.nization of inocul.ted pl.nts＇ parts. The performed pathogenicity tests and microscopic observations SEM showed that the tested isol.tes of S. carvi were occasional.pathogens of caraway.

Il.8B pol.morphism as a predictor of antiviral.response in chronic hepatitis C

AIM： To eval.ate the effect of singl. nucl.otide pol.- morphisms of interl.ukin （Il.-28B, rs12979860 on progression and treatment response in chronic hepatitis C. METHODS： Patients （n = 64; 37 men, 27 women; mean age, 44 ＋ 12 years） with chronic hepatitis C, genotype 1, received treatment with peg-interferon pl.s ribavirin. Genotyping of rs12979860 was per- formed on peripheral.bl.od DNA. Histopathol.gical.assessment of necroinfl.mmatory grade and fibrosis stage were scored using the METAVIR system on a l.ver biopsy sampl. before treatment. Serum viral.l.ad, ami- notransferase activity, and insul.n l.vel.were measured. Insul.n resistance index, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, percentage of body fat and fibrosis progression rate were cal.ul.ted. Appl.ed dose of interferon and ribavirin, pl.tel.t and neutrophil.count and hemogl.bin l.vel.were measured. RESUl.S： A sustained virol.gical.response （SVR） was significantl. associated with Il.8B pol.morphism （CC vs -l.r al.el.： odds ratio （OR）, 25; CC vs CT al.el.： OR, 5.4）, infl.mmation activity （G 〈 1 vs G 〉 1： OR, 3.9）, fibrosis （F 〈 1 vs F 〉 1： OR, 5.9）, pl.tel.t count （〉 200 × 109/l.vs 〈 200 ×109/l. OR, 4.7; OR in patients with genotype CT： 12.8）, fatty l.ver （absence vs presence of steatosis： OR, 4.8）, insul.n resistance index （〈 2.5 vs 〉 2.5： OR, 3.9）, and basel.ne HCV viral.l.ad （〈 106 IU/ml.vs 〉 106 IU/ml. OR, 3.0）. There was no association with age, sex, aminotransferases activity, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, or percentage body fat. There was borderl.ne significance （P = 0.064） of increased fibrosis in patients with the I-I al.el., and no differences in the insul.n resistance index between groups of patients with CC, CT and -IF al.el.s （P = 0.12）. Spearman＇s rank correl.tion coefficient between insul.n resistance and stage of fibrosis and body mass index was r = 0.618 and r = 0.605, respectivel. （P 〈 0.001）.
