Impact of intraocular pressure fluctuations on progression of normal tension glaucoma

AIM:To investigate short-and long-term intraocular pressure(IOP)fluctuations and fur ther ocular and demographic parameters as predictors for normal tension glaucoma(NTG)***:This retrospective,longitudinal cohort study included 137 eyes of 75 patients with NTG,defined by glaucomatous optic disc or visual field defect with normal IOP(<21 mm Hg),independently from therapy *** fluctuation,mean,and maximum were inspected with a mean follow-up of 38 mo[standard deviation(SD)18 mo].Inclusion criteria were the performance of minimum two 48-hour profiles including perimetry,Heidelberg retina tomograph(HRT)imaging,and optic disc *** impact of IOP parameters,myopia,sex,cup-to-disc-ratio,and visual field results on progression of NTG were analyzed using Cox regression models.A sub-group analysis with results from optical coherence tomography(OCT)was ***:IOP fluctuations,average,and maximum were not risk factors for progression in NTG patients,although maximum IOP at the initial IOP profile was higher in eyes with progression than in eyes without progression(P=0.054).The 46/137(33.5%)eyes progressed over the followup *** progression(at least three progression confirmations)occurred in 28/137 eyes(20.4%).Most progressions were detected by perimetry(36/46).Longterm IOP mean over all pressure profiles was 12.8 mm Hg(SD 1.3 mm Hg);IOP fluctuation was 1.4 mm Hg(SD 0.8 mm Hg).The progression-free five-year rate was 58.2%(SD 6.5%).CONCLUSION:Short-and long-term IOP fluctuations do not result in progression of *** functional changes are most likely to happen,NTG should be monitored with visual field testing more often than with other devices.

Purpose: The present study examined the joint impact of coping and rumination after trauma on posttraumatic growth (PTG) and posttraumatic depreciation (PTD) based on the PTG model. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2017 and May 2018. A sample of 253 individuals who had experienced a traumatic event in the last two years, was included. Participants completed an online self-reported survey, including demographic variables, trauma characteristics, the German Posttraumatic Growth and Depreciation Inventory — Expanded, the Brief COPE Inventory, and the Event Related Rumination Inventory. An analysis of correlation, a principal component analysis and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted. Statistical analyses were undertaken on SPSS (version 25.0;IBM, New York, USA). Results: After controlling for the effects of personal and trauma characteristics, self-sufficient coping and socially supported coping were found to favor the emergence of PTG. Event-related and recent deliberate rumination were positively related to PTG. Avoidant-focused coping and recent intrusive rumination were positively associated with PTD. Overall, the final models accounted for 46% and 58% of the variance in PTG and PTD. Conclusion: Our findings confirm the PTG model and support the central role of deliberate rumination, self-sufficient coping and socially supported coping in the development of PTG. Our results indicate that a similar model of PTD with comparable influencing factors can be assumed: if the individual is stuck in ongoing intrusive rumination and uses more avoidance-focused coping, it might lead to more reports of PTD.

For most particle-based applications, formulation in the liquid phase is a decisive step, and thus, particle interactions and stability in liquid media are of major importance. The concept of Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) was initially invented to describe the interactions of (polymer) molecules and their solubility in different liquids and is increasingly being used in particle technology to describe dispersibility. Because dispersions are not thermodynamically stable, the term Hansen dispersibility parameters (HDP) is used instead of HSP (SiiE, Sobisch, Peukert, Lerche,& Segets, 2018). Herein, we extend a previously developed standardized and non-subjective method for determination of Hansen parameters based on analytical centrifugation to the important class of quantum materials. As a technically relevant model system, zinc oxide quantum dots (QDs) were used to transfer our methodology to nanoparticles (NPs) with sizes below lOnm. The results obtained using the standard procedure starting from a dried powder were compared with those obtained through redispersion from the wet sediment produced during the typical washing procedure of QDs, and drying was observed to play an important role. In conclusion, our study reveals the high potential of HDP for quantifying the interfacial properties of NPs as well as their link to dispersibility.

Dear Editor,In multicellular eukaryotes,Polycomb repression heritably si-lences gene expression programs not needed or detrimental for a given developmental stage or tissue(Schuettengruber et al.,2017).During cell fate reprogramming,Polycomb silencing can be overcome by the combined activity of multiple Trithorax group(TrxG)proteins(Wu et al.,2012;Liang et al.,2015;Schuettengruber et al.,2017).TrxG proteins are genetically defined as suppressors of homeotic defects caused by loss of Polycomb function and have diverse enzymatic activities(Schuettengruber et al.,2017).We used a genetic enhancer screen to identify candidate TrxG proteins and uncovered TrxG activity for components of the SWR1 chromatin remodeling complex,which deposits the histone variant H2A.Z(Deal et al.,2007;March-Diaz et al.,2008).

A phylogeny of the genus Aphis Linnaeus, 1 758 was built primarily from specimens collected in the Midwest of the United States. A data matrix was constructedwith 68 species and 41 morphological characters with respective character states of alate and apterous viviparous females. Dendrogram topologies of analyses performed usingUPGMA （Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean）, Maximum Parsimony and Bayesian analysis of Cytochrome Oxidase I, Elongation Factor 1-α and primary endosymbiont Buchnera aphidicola 16S sequences were not congruent. Bayesian analysis strongly supported most terminal nodes of the phylogenetic trees. The phylogeny wasstrongly supported by EFI-α, and analysis of COl and EFI-α molecular data combined with morphological characters. It was not supported by single analysis of COI or Buch-hera aphidicola 16S. Results from the Bayesian phylogeny show 4 main species groups： asclepiadis,fabae, gossypii, and middletonii. Results place Aphis and species of the generaProtaphis Bōrner, 1952, Toxoptera Koch, 1856 and Xerobion Nevsky, 1928 in a monophyletic clade. Morphological characters support this monophyly as well. The phylogenyshows that the monophyletic clade of the North American middletonii species group belong to the genus Protaphis： P. debilicornis （Gillette ＆ Palmer, 1929）, comb. nov., P. echinaceae（Lagos and Voegtlin, 2009）, comb. nov., and P. middletonii （Thomas, 1879）. The genus Toxoptera should be considered a subgenus of Aphis （stat. nov.）. The analysis also indicatesthat the current genus Iowana Frison, 1954 should be considered a subgenus of Aphis （stat. nov.）.

To the Editor： A 54-year-old woman with no significant history of a headache or hypertension underwent epidural oxygen-ozone injection at a concentration of 30ug/ml （3 ml） for cervical disc herniation at cervical vertebra （C6-C7） level. Throughout the procedure, the routine monitorings of blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen saturation were perfomled. One minute following the end of the injection, tile patient developed a high-intensity headache mimicking symptoms of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The patient described the location of a headache as present in the l^ontoparietal and occipital areas accompanied by nausea and vomiting. The presumptive diagnosis of inadvertent epidural puncture was made. The patient was immediately treated oxygen therapy and bed rest. Monitoring showed vital signs of blood pressure （149/83 mmHg）, heart rate （86 beats/min）, pulse oxygen saturation （SpO2, 96%）, blood sugar （6.3 mmol/L）, and body temperature （36.6℃）. Subsequently, metoclopramide 10 mg and midazolam 1 mg were injected intravenously.
