A Critical Role of AMT2;1 in Root-To-Shoot Translocation of Ammonium in Arabidopsis

Ammonium uptake in plant roots is mediated by AMT/MEP/Rh-type ammonium transporters. Out of five AMTs being expressed in Arabidopsis roots, four AMT1-type transporters contribute to ammonium uptake, whereas no physiological function has so far been assigned to the only homolog belonging to the MEP subfamily, AMT2;1. Based on the observation that under ammonium supply, the transcript levels of AMT2;1 increased and its promoter activity shifted preferentially to the pericycle, we assessed the contribution of AMT2;1 to xylem loading. When exposed to ^15N-labeled ammonium, amt2;1 mutant lines translocated less tracer to the shoots and contained less ammonium in the xylem sap. Moreover, in an amtl;1 amtl;2 amtl ;3 amt2;1 quadruple mutant （qko）, co-expression of AMT2;1 with either AMT1;2 or AMT1;3 significantly enhanced ^15N translocation to shoots, indicating a cooperative action between AMT2;1 and AMT1 transporters. Under N deficiency, proAMT2;1-GFP lines showed enhanced promoter activity predominantly in cortical root cells, which coincided with elevated ammonium influx conferred by AMT2;1 at millimolar sub- strate concentrations. Our results indicate that in addition to contributing moderately to root uptake in the low-affinity range, AMT2;1 functions mainly in root-to-shoot translocation of ammonium, depending on its Cell-type-specific expression in response to the plant nutritional status and to local ammonium gradients.

Production and Nutritional Quality of Tomatoes(Solanum lycopersicum ***)Are Improved in the Presence of Biochar and Inoculation with Arbuscular Mycorrhizae

Tomato is a fruit of great nutritional interest in the basic human diet. The increasing use of agrochemicals to maintain production requires new alternatives to reduce environmental impact. Arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) are beneficial microorganisms that favor the growth of plants improving their nutrition and development, protecting the plant from biotic and abiotic stresses and favoring the production of bioactive compounds that increase their nutritional value. The use of biochar as soil conditioner is also considered an environmentally friendly resource. A greenhouse experiment was carried out to observe the effect of the use of biochar and AM inoculation on the quality of fruits, yield and polyphenols production of Cherry tomato, Solanum lycopersicum var. Cerasiforme. A mixture of rice husk biochar with sterile sand and two inoculums of Glomeromycota native fungi: from a wetland (GWI) and a fallow field (GFI) were used. Control treatments consisted of inoculation with both GWI and GFI in sterile sand. All treatments were irrigated with 50% La Molina? hydroponic solution. After 12 weeks plants were harvested to quantify weight, number and diameters of the fruits, and yield, total polyphenols in the fruit pulp were quantified. In the presence of biochar and the two inoculums, GFI and GWI, fruit production was favored throughout the experiment. The height of the plants was significantly greater in the presence of biochar. Plants grown in biochar and inoculated with GFI had a yield of 8.2 MT/Ha, increasing in 50% this value respect to control with biochar (5.33 MT/Ha). This treatment doubled the number of fruits (59.5) with respect to the control (32.5). Root colonization by GFI was not affected by the presence of biochar. It is concluded that the combined use of rice husk biochar and Glomeromycota fungal inoculation is recommended for increasing of Cherry tomato yield and improving fruit quality through the production of bioactive compounds.

药品和个人护理品(PPCPs)因其潜在的环境和健康风险受到了广泛关注。实验选取8种典型药品为对象,采用中试规模的活性炭工艺研究了其去除效果和影响因素。结果表明,活性炭工艺对安替比林、达舒平、舒必利、磺胺甲唑、泰妙菌素和氧苄胺嘧啶等的去除率为50%～90%,对林肯霉素和氨糖美辛的去除率均小于35%。典型药品的去除率受到滤速、有机物和pH等因素的影响,其中,氨糖美辛、林肯霉素和泰妙菌素等的去除率受滤速影响较大;磺胺甲唑的去除率受pH影响较大。有机物对典型药品去除率的影响既有促进作用,又有抑制作用。典型药品的物化性质对其去除行为有重要影响,这有利于从分子水平上认识活性炭工艺对典型药品的去除机理。

discretization and Interaction of Fields via the Classical Kaluza-Klein Theory

We show how the metric of a five-dimensional hyperspace-time can be used to model the quantum nature of electromagnetic interactions. The space-time neighborhood of the point where such an interaction takes place bends according to the curl and the derivative of the local electromagnetic four-potential, both calculated in the direction of the latter. In this geometric setting, the presence of a non-gravitational field is needed to induce the discretization of any gravitational field. We also exploit two variants of the classical Kaluza-Klein five-dimensional theory to obtain coupled generalizations of Einstein’s and Maxwell’s equations. The first variant involves an unspecified scalar field that may be related to the inflaton. The equations of the second variant show a direct interdependency of gravitation and electromagnetism that would emerge or be activated through the production of electromagnetic waves.

Properties of Zinc Silicate Glasses and Melts

Silicate glasses with high ZnO content are of interest for various applications, ranging from technical to optical glasses and glass ceramics. From structural effect ZnO and Al2O3 are intermediate oxides and can theoretically act as network modifier and also as network former depending on glass composition, but cannot form a glass per se. Zinc silicate glasses and melts were investigated beginning with the binary eutectic composition (in mol%) 50 ZnO-50 SiO2. The effect of Al2O3, Li2O, Na2O, K2O, BaO and B2O3 were studied. Glasses were prepared in a laboratory scale with high purity raw materials in high optical quality. different methods were used for investigation of glasses and melts up to high temperature (about 1,500 °C). Large variations of the properties were found, refractive index ne: 1.53-1.66, Abbe-number νe: 44-58, transformation temperature Tg: 465-730 °C; linear thermal expansion coefficient α100-300 °C: 35-140 (×10-7 K-1); density: 2.7-3.60 g/cm3; viscosity temperature (η in d Pas) Tlogη = 4: 775-1,115 °C; Tlogη = 2: 1,065-1,460 °C; electrical conductivity by impedance measurements in the temperature range 200 to 1,500 °C (σ in ?-1cm-1); Tlogσ = -8: 100-500 °C; Tlogσ = -1: 845-1,195 °C. The crystallization behaviour was studied and the following main crystal phases were detected: Zn2SiO4 willemite and variations, Li1.14Zn1.43SiO4, BaZn2Si2O7, Na, Zn-silicates of different types, NaAlSiO4, K2ZnSi3O8 and Na2ZnSi3O8 with 3d-framework structure, which form very stable glasses with extremely low crystallization tendency. The relations between structure and properties are discussed.

Heart failure (HF) is a potentially fatal disease that affects increasing number of people worldwide. Although heart transplant is the "gold standard" therapy for HF, due to the limited availability of organs, many patients died when waiting for the transplant. Left ventricular assist device (LVAd), as a mechanical circulatory support, has become a new light for patients with HF. With the technical advancements, LVAds work not only as a bridge to transplant, but also assist heart recovery and even as a destination therapy in long-term treatment. This observation paper reviewed the development of LVAd and its clinical roles. The challenges and possible solutions in nursing care for patients with LVAd at different stage of implantation were discussed. The healthcare professionals could obtain a better understanding about the LVAd treatment for HF patients.
