In this study a series of trivalent lanthanum complexes with 4-（R）-cinnamate （4-Rcinn, R=h（1）, MeO（2）, Cl（3）） and 4-methoxyphenylacetate ligands （4） were prepared and their antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger and Trichophyton mentagrophytes were examined. Compounds 1-4 were synthesized by a metathesis reaction and fully characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1h and 13C NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectra, thermogravimetry （TG）, derivative thermogravimetry （DTG）, differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and X-ray diffraction powder patterns. In emission studies, it was observed that lu-minescence intensity was enhanced in the presence of lanthanide ion. The results of X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that all com-plexes studied exhibited crystalline structure. Thermal behavior by TG, DTG, and DSC studies permitted to estimating the hydration degree of the compounds and showed the formation of decomposition products like lanthanum oxide. Determined by antifungal stud-ies, lanthanum complexes 1-4 demonstrated antifungal activity toward all pathogenic fungal strains tested. Compounds 2 and 4 showed significant growth inhibition for A. niger and C. albicans, respectively.

We compared six 3D methods, OptoGait, and Myotest Run for the determination of contact time for runners with different foot strike patterns. Twenty male participants were divided into two groups： the heel group, who attack the ground with the heel （n = 12）, and the toe group, who attack the ground with the middle/front of the foot （n = 8）. They performed trials at speeds of 8 km/h then 16 km/h. To detect foot strike, the use of peak velocity of 3D markers located on the heel, the fifth metatarsal, and the great toe provided the best results for both groups. To detect the toe off, the minimum vertical position of a 3D marker placed in line with the great toe gave the most satisfactory results for both groups. In this way, the values of contact time measured with the 3D methods are consistent. Values measured with OptoGait appear consistent too, while those of the Myotest Run underestimate the contact time for both speeds. 3D analysis provides interesting opportunities for calculation of contact time for both rearfoot and forefoot runners, using specific peak velocities to determine foot strike and marker displacement to determine toe off.

BACKGROUND: Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator(ICD)therapy has been shown to improve survival in patients with various heart conditions who are at high risk for ventricular arrhythmias. Whether benefit occurs in patients early after myocardial infarction is unknown. METhODS: We conducted the Defibrillator in Acute Myocardial Infarction Trial, a randomized, open-label comparison of ICD therapy(in 332 patients)and no ICD therapy(in 342 patients)6 to 40 days after a myocardial infarction. We enrolled patients who had reduced left ventricular function(left ventricular ejection fraction, 0.35 or less)and impaired cardiac autonomic function(manifested as depressed heart-rate variability or an elevated average 24-hour heart rate on holter monitoring). The primary outcome was mortality from any cause. Death from arrhythmia was a predefined secondary outcome. RESULTS: During a mean(±SD)follow-up period of 30±13 months, there was no difference in overall mortality between the two treatment groups: of the 120 patients who died, 62 were in the ICD group and 58 in the control group(hazard ratio for death in the ICD group, 1.08; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.76 to 1.55; P=0.66). There were 12 deaths due to arrhythmia in the ICD group, as compared with 29 in the control group(hazard ratio in the ICD group, 0.42; 95 percent confidence interval, 0.22 to 0.83; P=0.009). In contrast, there were 50 deaths from nonarrhythmic causes in the ICD group and 29 in the control group(hazard ratio in the ICD group, 1.75; 95 percent confidence interval, 1.11 to 2.76; P=0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic ICD therapy does not reduce overall mortality in high-risk patients who have recently had a myocardial infarction. Although ICD therapy was associated with a reduction in the rate of death due to arrhythmia, that was offset by an increase in the rate of death from nonarrhythmic causes.

Objectives The goal of the present study was to assess the efficacy and safety of intravenous tedisamil, a new antiarrhythmic compound, for conversion of rece nt-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter (AFL) to normal sinus rhyth m (NSR). Background Tedisamil is a novel antiarrhythmic drug with predominantly class III activity. Its efficacy and safety for conversion of recent onset AF or AFL to NSR is not known. Methods This was a multicenter, double-blind, randomi zed, placebo-controlled, sequential ascending dose-group trial. A total of 201 patients with symptomatic AF or AFL of 3 to 48 h duration were enrolled in a tw o-stage study. During stage 1, patients were randomized to receive tedisamil at 0.4 mg/kg body weight or matching placebo; during stage 2, patients received te disamil at 0.6mg/kg body weight or matching placebo. Treatments were given as si ngle intravenous infusions. The primary study end point consisted of the percent age of patients converting to NSR for at least 60 s within 2.5 h. Results Of 175 patients representing the intention-to-treat sample, conversion to NSR was ob served in 41%(25/61) of the tedisamil 0.4mg/kg group, 51%(27 of 53) of the ted isamil 0.6mg/kg group, and 7%(4/59) of the placebo group (ph ted isamil groups vs. placebo). Average time to conversion was 35 min in patients re ceiving tedisamil. There were two instances of selfterminating ventricular tachy cardia: one episode of torsade de pointes and one of monomorphic ventricular tac hycardia, both in patients receiving 0.6 mg/kg tedisamil. Conclusions Tedisamil at dosages of 0.4 and 0.6 mg/kg was superior to placebo in converting AF or AFL. Tedisamil has a rapid onset of action leading to conversion within 30 to 40 min in the majority of responders.

(Objective) The present study was conducted with the goal of investigating themorphological and histological changes in ovaries and their components during the growth and development in domestic chicken at different age stages,and exploring the developmental changes and rule in ovaries.(Method) Fifty healthy female chicks(hy-line Brown) aged 1 and 3-weeks,1,2,and 3-months obtained from a local poultry farm which specializes in breeding chicks were used in this ***,the chicks were weighted and slaughtered,then dissected at the lower abdominal portion to the thoracic cavity to observe and record the growth and location of ovaries in the ***,the ovaries were carefully harvested,their weight and measurements(length,width,and thickness) were ***,the ovaries were immediately placed in AAF solution for fixation,processed and immersed in wax blocks,then cut into 5 to 7 μm sections,stained for microscopic observations using hematoxylin and eosin(h.E.) techniques.(Result)Results found that the ovaries were located high in the abdominal cavity,attached to the backbone on either side of the dorsal aorta,and the left organ was larger and longer than the right *** left ovary showed a deep yellow creamy tissue mass at its anterior part and displayed various shapes and sizes during development,showing a smooth aspect(one-week-old to three-week) which evolved and became more vascularized,making it look more uneven and completely lost its smooth aspect(three-month-old).The remaining right ovary was situated on top of the right kidney closely attached to the anterior part of the left ovary and displayed a deep yellow creamy tissue mass similar to that of the left ovary which reflected its key remaining characteristic and did not seem to decline but continued to develop up to three months *** tohistological observation,the left ovary(one-week-old) exhibited a thick cortex that spread considerably and grew thicker as follicles formed.T

In the hydrological watershed, some natural processes take place in which the interaction of water, soil, climate and vegetation favors the capture of water. The present study aimed to evaluate preliminary information regarding the hydrological response and the water balance in a small research watershed with tropical forest cover (15°01'44''N and 92°13'55''W, 471 m, 2.3 has). Events of precipitation, direct runoff, infiltration rate and baseflow were performed. The amount, duration and intensity of rainfall events were recorded with the use of a pluviograph. Surface runoff was quantified with an established gauging station, an h-type gauging device and a horizontal mechanical gauging limnograph. Runoff base flow was measured at the gauging station using the volume-time method. Infiltration was measured using a triple ring infiltrometer, taking two measurements in the upper part and two in the lower part of the microbasin. Evapotranspiration was measured with the amount of rainfall entering and runoff leaving the watershed. In the study period, annual rainfall of 4417.6 mm distributed over 181 events were recorded;about 70% of the storms showed lower intensities at 20 mm·h-1. The total runoff was 345.8 mm caused by half of the rainfall events, which represents 7.8% of the total rain;77% of runoff events showed lower sheets of 5 mm and an average specific rate of 20.7 L·s-1·ha-1 with a maximum of 113.6 L·s-1·ha-1. Three runoff events were greater than 20.1 mm and caused the 22.5% of the total runoff depth in the study period showing the equilibrium conditions in the hydrological response of the forest. Water outputs like baseflow was 669.5 mm. In this way, 90% of the rainfall is infiltrated every year in the micro-watershed, which shows the importance of the plant cover in the hydrological regulation and the groundwater recharge.
