The Effect of Uncaria gambir on Optical Properties and Thermal Stability of CNF/PVA Biocomposite Films

Cellulose-based film has gained popularity as an alternative to synthetic polymers due to its outstanding *** all types of cellulose materials available,cellulose nanofiber(CNF)has great potential to be utilized in a diverse range of applications,including as a film *** this study,CNF biocomposite film was prepared by using polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)as a matrix and Uncaria gambir extract as a *** study aims to investigate the effect of Uncaria gambir extract on the optical properties and thermal stability of the produced *** formation of the CNF biocomposite films was confirmed using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy,their transmittance characteristics were measured using UV-Vis spectroscopy and a transmittance meter,while their reflectance was determined using a reflectance *** results revealed that the addition of Uncaria gambir extract to the CNF biocomposite film improved its UV-shielding properties,as indicated by the lower percentage of transmittance in the visible region,10%–70%.In addition,its reflectance increased to 10.6%compared to the CNF film without the addition of Uncaria gambir ***,the thermal stability of the CNF biocomposite film with the addition of Uncaria gambir extract improved to around 400℃–500℃.In conclusion,the results showed that CNF biocomposite film prepared by adding Uncaria gambir extract can be a promising candidate for optical and thermal management materials.

What shapes the relative investment in reproduction versus survival of organisms is among the key questions in life *** insects mature all their eggs prior to emergence and are short lived,providing a unique opportunity to quantify their lifetime investments in the different *** investigated the initial eggloads and longevity of 2 proovigenic parasitoid wasps:Anagrus erythroneurae and Anagrus daanei,(Hymenoptera:Mymaridae)that develop within leafhopper eggs in both agricultural vineyards and natural riparian habitats in Northern *** collected Vitis *** containing developing parasitoids from 3 natural sites(Knight Landing,American River and Putah Creek)and 3 agricultural vineyards(Solano Farm,Davis Campus and Village Homes).We recorded eggloads at parasitoid emergence and female parasitoid longevity with or without *** predicts that parasitoids from vineyards(where hosts are abundant)would have higher initial eggloads and lower longevity compared with parasitoids from riparian habitats(where hosts are scarce).Although host density and parasitoid eggloads were,indeed,higher in vineyards than in riparian habitats,parasitoid longevity did not follow the predicted *** without feeding differed among field sites,but it was not affected by habitat type(natural vs agricultural),whereas longevity with feeding was not significantly affected by any of the examined ***,longevity was positively,rather than negatively,correlated with eggloads at the individual level,even after correcting for parasitoid body *** combined results suggest a more complex allocation mechanism than initially predicted,and the possibility of variation in host quality that is independent of size.

In May 2012,the Emilia region of the Po Valley was struck by a seismic crisis with two major events of magnitude M_w 6.1and M_w *** first event induced widespread sand blows formed along buried channels and old crevasse splay *** the days immediately following the events,the detailed mapping and sampling of the erupted sand was fundamental to record all the seismically-induced *** study of a trench dug across large fractures at San Carlo(Ferrara)provided also valuable information on the sand blows mechanism and *** sedimentological and compositional characteristics of the fracture-filling materials indicate that the sands were erupted from a layer located between 6.8 and 7.5 m *** and deeper Holocene and Pleistocene sand layers were not apparently involved in the liquefaction phenomena.

Objective:To determine the prevalence,sex-age related intensity of urinary schistosomiasis and to compare such parameters among rural school children and rural fanners in selected communities in Obollo-Eke located in Southeast,***:A cross-sectional survey involving 1 337 school children and farmers was conducted in Obollo-Eke community between September 2006 and July *** data of subjects was collected using a questionnaire prepared for this *** samples were collected and examined for haematuria and ova of Schistosoma haematobium(***) using Medi-test Combi 9 and sedimentation technique ***:The prevalence of urinary schistosomiasis based on microscopic examination of the urine sediment for the ova of *** was 17.5%while the prevalence of haematuria was 15.6%.Infection intensity varied from light to *** general,the prevalence was higher among males(20.8%) than females(14.6%;P>0.05) and was slightly higher among primary school children(18.0%;n=762) than farmers(16.9%;n=575;P>0.05).The age-specific prevalence of schistosomiasis among the study subjects ranged from 8.3%to 21.2%in 0-5 years and 11-15 years age groups ***:Haematuria and mean egg/10 mL urine (r = 0.95;P<0.01) showed that both procedures are reliable for the diagnosis of the disease and can be used to ascertain the prevalence of the disease in any *** comparative analysis of urinary bilharziasis among primary school children and rural farmers demonstrated that the infection is moderately high in these two risk population groups at Obollo-Eke.A robust intervention strategy is clearly needed.

Gastric Malrotation Relieved by Pleural Effusion Drainage

Mr M., 55-year-old, with metastatic adenocarcinoma of lung (stage IV) was admitted to the hospital after an earlier visit to oncology, where he presented with abdominal pain and distention suspected of having ascites for the first time. After performing abdominal CT and gastric passage film, it was hypothesized that clinical manifestation was related to gastric malrotation. The latter was forced by the huge left pleural effusion. Draining the pleural effusion may be complicated by a trapped lung, an adverse effect where the lung does not expand post drainage. After considering the palliative therapeutic options the effusion was drained, the stomach recoiled to its anatomical position, gastric malrotation was relieved, and the patient resumed oral nutrition. Though gastric malrotation due to a huge, malignant left pleural effusion is rare, it should be considered as more patients are being treated for lung cancer.

在印度尼西亚,旅游业是其中一项重要产业。文化旅游被认为是印尼旅游业不可或缺的一部分。在大多数印度尼西亚印度教徒居住的巴厘岛,主要吸引外国游客的,是在巴厘神庙中表演巴厘人舞剧的文化和宗教节日。除了巴厘岛,文化旅游游在日惹(Yogyakarta)——印度尼西亚一个作为爪哇族古典文艺中心而知名的特殊地区——也起着重要作用。在爪哇岛中部,佛教、印度教、伊斯兰教等宗教王国的兴衰,已经把日惹转变为一个印尼文化大熔炉。本研究的目的是解释为何日惹的旅游业相较于巴厘岛更不兴盛的问题。虽然两个旅游目的地都具有相似的旅游特色,但前往日惹旅行的游客远远少于巴厘岛。尽管巴厘岛和日惹都依赖文化和自然景观来吸引游客,但巴厘岛明显成功地吸引了更大量的游客,这是日惹所不及的。本研究与巴厘岛作为参照系使用了态势分析法(SWOT)来比较分析巴厘岛和日惹作为旅游景点的优势、劣势、机会和威胁。换句话说,选择态势分析法(SWOT)是因为它能够提供一个更清晰直观的方式来解读这两地旅游业的现状。另外,这项研究主要着眼于两个问题:(1)为什么外国游客更钟情于巴厘岛而不是日惹;(2)如何改善日惹的旅游业现状。研究显示,游客喜爱巴厘岛胜于日惹的原因有三:(1)巴厘岛的管理更贴合国际旅游胜地标准;(2)巴厘岛拥有其独一无二的巴厘文化;(3)保证游客满意的旅游项目的充分改善。要达到与巴厘岛同样水平的旅游业绩,日惹还需要在旅游项目开发上下功夫。以下是一些能够运用于吸引更多外国游客到日惹市的可行的市场交流策略:(1)日惹市旅游圣地地位的巩固;(2)产品开发;(3)独一无二的文化旅游包装;(4)市场混合;(5)社交传媒营销;(6)相关产业合作;(7)媒体合作。总而言之,研究尝试找出促进日惹旅游业发展的关键因素以及交流学习在发展中所起的作用。整个研究结果旨在为市场交流提供一些理论参考,尤其是旅游业发展。

Effects of K and N Nutrition on Function and Production of Ranunculus asiaticus

Potassium （K） affects a range of physiological processes in the plant and is a key factor controlling crop productivity and yield quality. Little information is available concerning effects of K nutrition on function of cut flower plants. The present study was carried out to investigate the interaction between K and N nutrition, on flower quantity and quality of Ranunculus asiaticus L. The plants were supplied with three levels of K fertigation （60, 120, or 180 mg K L-1） under 50 mg N L-1 application, and at the intermediate level of 120 mg K L-1, to three levels of N applications （50, 100, or 150 mg N L-l）. The two lowest K treatments and the lowest N treatment excelled in flower production due to the lower incidence of stem-toppling, a disorder associated with localized Ca deficiencies in rapidly expanding tissues of the flower stem. Detrimental effects in terms of yield quality were apparent already under supply of 180 mg K L-1 and 50 mg N L-1, and were not associated with changes in osmotic potential, relative water content or membrane stability of the plant tissue, or with changes in mineral contents of the leaves other than reduced Ca under high N application. Our results suggest a low nutritional requirement of R. asiaticus L. for K and N, a lack of involvement of tissue water relations in the reduced flower quality under the application of high concentrations of K and N, and an induction of stem toppling under high application of N and K by reduced availability of Ca to the expanding tissue of the flower stem.

Introduction: Not all medicines that pass-through consumers’ hands are used, and some often expire in households. These health products can be sources of accidental risks and pollution when they are not properly disposed of. In Burkina Faso, there are as yet no guidelines for the disposal of unused medicines in households. The aim of this study was to estimate the extent of household possession of unused or expired medicines, and to describe attitudes and disposal practices. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study covering households in the Ouagadougou commune conducted from June to August 2021. Two-stage stratified sampling was used: selection of Enumeration Zones (EZs) and selection of households, with each EZ comprising several households. Data collection was based on direct interviews using a structured questionnaire. Data were processed using Epi Info software version 7.***.4.0. Results: In total, 417 household residents were surveyed out of the planned 423 households, corresponding to a completion rate of 98.58% compared with the initial sample. Among the respondents, 79.62% had unused and/or expired medicines in their household. A total of 2562 drug packaging units were counted, for a total weight of 121.90 kg. Nearly 75% were aware that improper disposal was a danger to the environment. Some respondents kept their unused medicines at home until they expired (43.41%), and disposed of them mainly by throwing them in the household garbage (75.58%). The majority (79%) were in favor of the government setting up a take-back program for these medicines. Conclusion: The introduction of a take-back program for unused or out-of-date medicines will ensure safer disposal of medicines, and better protection for households and the environment.

Introduction: Vaginal practices include washing, altering, cutting, cleaning, enhancing, drying, tightening, lubricating, or loosening of the vagina, labia, clitoris, or hymen. This study aimed to investigate the different vaginal practices of women using non-pharmaceutical products. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical purposes that took place from January 15 to April 23, 2023, in the four largest markets in the municipality of Ouagadougou. This was performed using the data collection sheet in the KoboCollect application. Epi info 7.***.5.0. software was used for data analysis. For the analysis of associated factors, a p-value Results: In total, 977 women were surveyed. Among them, 43.19% underwent vaginal procedures using non-pharmaceutical products. The female practitioners were 34.34 ± 7.44 years old. The products used included plants, mineral substances, ointments, tablets, and solutions. Among the practicing women, 40.99% were looking for vaginal tightening. The main purpose was to maintain their partners (45.97%). Three-point thirty-two percent (3.32%) of the women who underwent vaginal procedures had reported adverse events. Conclusion: Raising awareness of the consequences of vaginal practices and encouraging women to go to a health center for any gynecological problem could significantly reduce the prevalence of vaginal practices.

Identifying and promoting safe walking routes in older adults

Background: Walking for physical activity is important for older adults' physical and mental health. We developed and tested the reliability of an environmental audit tool designed to be used by lay people to identify appropriate walking routes for older adults trying to increase their physical activity. Methods: A 44-item Walking Route Audit Tool for Seniors (WRATS) was developed based on literature review and input from older adults during focus groups. Observers completed the tool for 24 walking routes which were specifically selected to maximize variability in environment features and quality. Inter-rater reliability was assessed using Kappa and percent agreement. Results: Inter-rater reliability was good to excellent for 27 of the 44 WRATS items and moderate for 9 items. ICCs were good to excellent for 6 of the 8 scales (ICCs = 0.61 to 0.90). Conclusions: These results provide evidence for the reliability of WRATS for evaluating environmental attributes of walking routes suitable for older adults. Some scales need further refinement, and validity should be tested in a sample of older adults.
