Previous research indicates that 12-tetradecanoylphorbol—13-acetate（TPA） increased the number of skin papillomas in *** transgenic mice that received sodium arsenite in drinking water, indicating that this model is useful for studying the toxic effects of arsenic in *** the present study,we examined the pathophysiological and molecular effects of inorganic and organic arsenical exposure on *** mouse *** mice were exposed to sodium arsenite（As）,sodium arsenate（As）,monomethylarsonic acid（MMA） and dimethylarsinic acid（DMA）,at the dosages of 150,200,1500 and 1000 ppm arsenic, respectively,in the drinking water for *** mice received unaltered *** exposure reduced body weight gain by 8—15%at the end of the exposure as compared to ***（including moribundity） incidence in mice treated with As,MMA,and DMAwas 20%,40%,and 15%respectively. Arsenic exposure resulted in a dose-dependent,but chemical species-independent accumulation of arsenic in the liver,and produced hepatic global DNA hypomethylation as assessed by the methyl-acceptance assay. CDNA micro array analysis revealed that all arsenicals induced similar yet distinct alterations in the expression of genes related to glutathione metabolism,stress,apoptosis and cell proliferation,and those associated with preneoplastic *** arsenicals（MMAand DMA） induced a dissimilar pattern of gene expression than in organic ***-time rT-PCr was used to corroborate the findings of our micro array analyses for numerous genes proposed to be involved in toxicity and *** summary,subchronic exposure to inorganic or organic arsenicals resulted in to toxic manifestations,hepatic arsenic accumulation,global DNA hypomethylation,and numerous gene expression *** effects in combination or alone may well play a role in arsenic toxicity and arsenic carcinogenesis.

What shapes the relative investment in reproduction versus survival of organisms is among the key questions in life *** insects mature all their eggs prior to emergence and are short lived,providing a unique opportunity to quantify their lifetime investments in the different *** investigated the initial eggloads and longevity of 2 proovigenic parasitoid wasps:Anagrus erythroneurae and Anagrus daanei,(Hymenoptera:Mymaridae)that develop within leafhopper eggs in both agricultural vineyards and natural riparian habitats in Northern *** collected Vitis *** containing developing parasitoids from 3 natural sites(Knight Landing,American river and Putah Creek)and 3 agricultural vineyards(Solano Farm,Davis Campus and Village Homes).We recorded eggloads at parasitoid emergence and female parasitoid longevity with or without *** predicts that parasitoids from vineyards(where hosts are abundant)would have higher initial eggloads and lower longevity compared with parasitoids from riparian habitats(where hosts are scarce).Although host density and parasitoid eggloads were,indeed,higher in vineyards than in riparian habitats,parasitoid longevity did not follow the predicted *** without feeding differed among field sites,but it was not affected by habitat type(natural vs agricultural),whereas longevity with feeding was not significantly affected by any of the examined ***,longevity was positively,rather than negatively,correlated with eggloads at the individual level,even after correcting for parasitoid body *** combined results suggest a more complex allocation mechanism than initially predicted,and the possibility of variation in host quality that is independent of size.

Objective:To determine the prevalence,sex-age related intensity of urinary schistosomiasis and to compare such parameters among rural school children and rural fanners in selected communities in Obollo-Eke located in Southeast,***:A cross-sectional survey involving 1 337 school children and farmers was conducted in Obollo-Eke community between September 2006 and July *** data of subjects was collected using a questionnaire prepared for this *** samples were collected and examined for haematuria and ova of Schistosoma haematobium(***) using Medi-test Combi 9 and sedimentation technique ***:The prevalence of urinary schistosomiasis based on microscopic examination of the urine sediment for the ova of *** was 17.5%while the prevalence of haematuria was 15.6%.Infection intensity varied from light to *** general,the prevalence was higher among males(20.8%) than females(14.6%;P>0.05) and was slightly higher among primary school children(18.0%;n=762) than farmers(16.9%;n=575;P>0.05).The age-specific prevalence of schistosomiasis among the study subjects ranged from 8.3%to 21.2%in 0-5 years and 11-15 years age groups ***:Haematuria and mean egg/10 mL urine (r = 0.95;Procedures are reliable for the diagnosis of the disease and can be used to ascertain the prevalence of the disease in any *** comparative analysis of urinary bilharziasis among primary school children and rural farmers demonstrated that the infection is moderately high in these two risk population groups at Obollo-Eke.A robust intervention strategy is clearly needed.

Effects of K and N Nutrition on Function and Production of ranunculus asiaticus

Potassium （K） affects a range of physiological processes in the plant and is a key factor controlling crop productivity and yield quality. Little information is available concerning effects of K nutrition on function of cut flower plants. The present study was carried out to investigate the interaction between K and N nutrition, on flower quantity and quality of ranunculus asiaticus L. The plants were supplied with three levels of K fertigation （60, 120, or 180 mg K L-1） under 50 mg N L-1 application, and at the intermediate level of 120 mg K L-1, to three levels of N applications （50, 100, or 150 mg N L-l）. The two lowest K treatments and the lowest N treatment excelled in flower production due to the lower incidence of stem-toppling, a disorder associated with localized Ca deficiencies in rapidly expanding tissues of the flower stem. Detrimental effects in terms of yield quality were apparent already under supply of 180 mg K L-1 and 50 mg N L-1, and were not associated with changes in osmotic potential, relative water content or membrane stability of the plant tissue, or with changes in mineral contents of the leaves other than reduced Ca under high N application. Our results suggest a low nutritional requirement of r. asiaticus L. for K and N, a lack of involvement of tissue water relations in the reduced flower quality under the application of high concentrations of K and N, and an induction of stem toppling under high application of N and K by reduced availability of Ca to the expanding tissue of the flower stem.

rong>Objective:rong> Boswellia papyrifera (Del.) Hochst and ruta chalepensis L. are aromatic plants used in the republic of Djibouti, both as food and medicine. The importance of essential oils of these two species in the treatment of certain pathologies such as inflammations and infections has led to an assessment of their composition in volatile organic compounds and their hepato-protective properties on rats poisoned by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). rong>Methods: rong>The chemical composition of essential oils studied was determined by GC-MS. The hepato-protective properties of the essential oils of Boswellia papyrifera and ruta chalepensis were assessed through inhibition of hepato toxicity in rats by CCl4 poisoning. The hepato-protection of essential oils was estimated by measuring biochemical and hematological parameters. rong>results: rong>Essential oils of Boswellia papyrifera and ruta chalepensis reduced the blood level of transaminases and triglycerides at the dependent dosage, and restored liver proteins (0.27 g/l) to levels similar to those rats not poisoned by CCl4. Blood levels of uric acid, urea, creatinine and HDL have also been restored to values similar to those of non-poisoned rats. The chemical composition of the essential oils studied shows that Boswellia papyrifera contains incensole acetate (43.76%) and isoincensole (18.42%), and that ruta chalepensis contains menthyl acetate (29.8%) and piperitone (22.22%). rong>Conclusion:rong> The studies carried out have shown that the essential oils of Boswellia papyrifera and ruta chalepensis have a hepato-protective potential similar to that of sylimarin (reference hepato-protective substances). The results show that the essential oils of Boswellia papyrifera and ruta chalepensis could present good prospects in the formulation of phytomedicines for the man
