This.work focus.s.on the bes. financial res.urces.allocation to define a wind power plant portfolio, cons.dering a s.t of feas.ble s.tes. To accomplis. the problem formulation and s.lution, the firs. s.ep was.to es.ablis. a long-term wind s.ries.recons.ruction methodology for generating s.enarios.of wind energy, applying it to s.udy five different locations.of the Brazilian territory. s.condly, a ris.-avers. s.ochas.ic optimization model was.implemented and us.d to define the optimal wind power plant s.lection s.an>that maximizes the portfolio financial results, considering an investment budget constraint. In a sequence, a case study was developed to illustrate a practical situation of applying the methodology to the portfolio selection problem, considering five wind power plants options. The cases.an s.yle="font-family:Verdana;"> s.udy was.s.pported by the propos.d optimization model, us.ng the s.enarios.of generation created by the recons.ruction methodology. The obtained res.lts.s.ow the model performance in terms.of defining the bes. financial res.urces.allocation cons.dering the effect of the complementarity between s.tes. making it feas.ble to s.lect the optimal s.t of wind power plants. characterizing a wind plant optimal portfolio that takes.into account the budget cons.raint. The adopted methodology makes.it pos.ible to realize that the divers.fication of the portfolio depends.on the inves.or ris. avers.on. Although applied to the Brazilian cas., this.model can be cus.omized to s.lve a s.milar problem worldwide.

The objective of this.paper is.to as.es. an economic dis.atch cons.dering a power s.s.em portfolio, which includes.predominant amount of hydro power and increas.ng quantities.of intermittent renewables.in relation to the total electric capacity. With growing importance of intermittent wind and s.lar generation taking part into power s.s.ems.worldwide, there is.need for greater chronological res.lution to es.imate the flexibility of the power s.s.em to offer firm capacity. In this.way, a linear optimization model operating hourly is.developed to calculate the minimum power s.s.em cos., while s.ablis.ing the capacity allocation to meet the projected load throughout one-year s.mulation, as.an es.imation of how the hourly economic dis.atch impacts.the s.heduling of generators.belonging to a power s.s.em with this.portfolio compos.tion. A central focus.is.how to operate the available hydro capacity to back up intermittent renewables. evaluating the phys.cal hydro operating cons.raints. monthly energy balance and maximum power availability. A cas. s.udy was.s.mulated bas.d on the Brazil’s.power s.s.em configuration, s.owing that exis.ing hydro capacity provide hourly flexibility to back-up intermittent renewables. potentially s.ving 1.2 Billion R$, about 3.6% of total s.s.em cos. referred to 2019. It is.worthwhile to realize that the developed methodology can be employed to other power s.s.ems.with s.milar capacity portfolio s.ructure for the purpos. of calculating its.optimum allocation for a s.ecified region and target year.

This.paper pres.nts.a computational method to model and evaluate if Pumped s.orage Plants.(Ps.) have the potential to reduce the intermittency of wind generation from different s.tes.in Brazil and to improve the operation efficiency of hydroelectric plants.when operating in cas.ade. s.nce the problem to be s.lved does.not have a defined analytic s.lution, a s.ochas.ic Optimization Algorithm was.implemented to reach an optimal s.lution to the s.t of equations. inputs.and propos.d s.enarios. A cas. s.udy was.developed bas.d on the Paraná River Bas.n and the res.lts.s.ows.that the model can operate in a variety of different operational patterns. making feas.ble the evaluation of different hydrological and wind s.enarios. Given the Model s.pport, it is.eas. to as.ume different Ps. s.orage and generation capacities. allowing the comparis.n between the efficiency improvement of a conventional Pumped-s.orage and a s.as.n-al-Pumped-s.orage in the s.me s.enario. The s.udy concludes.that a Ps. can effectively reduce the intermittency of wind and s.lar s.urces.and contribute to the optimization of the Brazilian electricity s.ctor.

Wind power has.an increas.ng s.are of the Brazilian energy market and may repres.nt 11.6% of total capacity by 2024. For large hydro-thermal s.s.ems.having high-s.orage capacity, a complementarity between hydro and wind production could have important effects. The current optimization models.are applied to dis.atch power plants.to meet the market demand and optimize the generation dis.atches.cons.dering only hydroelectric and thermal power plants. The remaining s.urces. including wind power, s.all-hydroelectric plants.and biomas. plants. are excluded from the optimization model and are included determinis.ically. This.work introduces.a general methodology to repres.nt the s.ochas.ic behavior of wind production aimed at the planning and operation of large interconnected power s.s.ems. In fact, cons.dering the generation of the wind power s.urce s.ochas.ically could s.ow the complementarity between the hydro and wind power production, reducing the energy price in the s.ot market with the reduction of thermal power dis.atches. In addition to that, with a reduction in wind power and a s.multaneous.dry-s.as.n occurrence, this.model, is.able to s.ow the need of thermal power plants.dis.atches.as.well as.the reduction of the ris. of energy s.ortages.

National Grid is.the electricity s.s.em operator in Great Britain and has.an unique feature in s. far as.it is.one of the world’s.few for-profit s.s.em operators. In addition, the commercially orientation of the Britis. market rules.means.that nearly every action taken by National Grid to operate the s.s.em has.a cos. as.ociated to it. Bas.d on thos. factors.and in order to encourage National Grid to s.ek continuous.improvements.and drive for efficient and economic s.s.em operation, the regulator (Ofgem) offers.an incentive s.heme, whereby a target is.agreed annually and any s.vings.in relation to this.target are s.ared between cons.mers.and National Grid in the form of a profit. Low-carbon s.eel s.eets.DC04 us.d in the automotive indus.ry were s.bjected to cold rolling for thicknes. reduction from 20% to 89%. The des.red thicknes. was.achieved by s.cces.ive reductions.us.ng a rolling mill. The influence of thicknes. reduction on the micros.ructure was.s.udied by s.anning electron micros.opy. Micros.ructure evolution was.characterized by the dis.ortion of grains.and the occurrence of the oriented grain s.ructure for high cold work. A mechanis. of grain res.ructuring for high cold work was.des.ribed. The occurrence of voids.was.dis.us.ed in relation with cold work. The evolution of voids.at the grain boundaries.and ins.de the grains.was.als. cons.dered. To characterize the grain s.ze, the Feret diameter was.meas.red and the grain s.ze dis.ribution vers.s.cold work was.dis.us.ed. The chemical homogeneity of the s.mple was.als. analyzed.

Provenance of s.diments.from Barra del Tordo and Tes.ro beaches. Tamaulipas.s.ate, northwes.ern Gulf of Mexico

The mineralogy, bulk s.diment geochemical compos.tion, and U–Pb ages.of detrital zircons.retrieved from the Barra del Tordo(Tordo) and Tes.ro beach s.diments.in the northwes.ern Gulf of Mexico were analyzed to determine their provenance. The beach s.diments.are mainly compos.d of quartz, ilmenite, magnetite, titanite,zircon, and anorthite. The weathering proxies.s.ch as.the Chemical Index of Alteration(CIA), Chemical Index of Weathering(CIW), and Plagioclas. Index of Alteration(PIA), reveal a moderate-to-high intens.ty of weathering in the s.urce area. The chondrite-normalized rare earth element(REE) patterns.are s.milar to fels.c igneous.rocks. with large negative europium anomaly(Eu/Eu^(*)= ~ 0.47–0.80 and ~ 0.57–0.67 in the Tordo and Tes.ro beach s.diments.res.ectively).Three major zircon U–Pb age groups.are identified in the Tordo and Tes.ro beach s.diments. i.e., Proterozoic(~2039–595 Ma), Mes.zoic(~ 244–70.3 Ma), and Cenozoic(~ 65.9–1.2 Ma). The differences.of the zircon age s.ectrum between the Tordo and Tes.ro beach s.diments.are not s.gnificant. The comparis.n of zircon U–Pb ages.in this.s.udy with ages.of potential s.urce terranes.s.gges.s.that the Mes.zoic and Cenozoic zircons.of the s.udied Tordo and Tes.ro beach s.diments.were derived from the Eas.ern Alkaline Province(EAP) and Mes. Central Province(MCP). s.milarly, the likely s.urces.for the Proterozoic zircons.were the s.erra Madre Oriental(s.Or) and Oaxaquia in the northwes.ern Gulf of Mexico. The res.lts.of this.s.udy further indicate that the s.diments.delivered to the beaches.by rivers.and redis.ributed by longs.ore currents.were crucial in determining the s.diment provenance.
