Impaired T-cell differentiation in diabetic foot ulceration

Foot ulceration is one of the most debilitating complications associated with diabetes,but its cause remains poorly *** studies have been undertaken to understand healing kinetics or find possible therapies to enhance ***,few studies have been directed at understanding the immunological alterations that could influence wound healing in *** this study,we analysed the T-cell receptor(TCR)repertoire diversity in TCR-αβ^(+)T *** also analysed the distribution and phenotype of T cells obtained from the peripheral blood of healthy controls and diabetic individuals with or without foot *** results showed that diabetic individuals,especially those with foot ulcers,have a significantly lower naive T-cell number and a poorer TCR-Vβrepertoire *** also showed that the reduced TCR-Vβrepertoire diversity in diabetic individuals was mainly owing to the accumulation of effector T cells,the major source of tumour necrosis factor-αproduction,which was even more pronounced in patients with acute foot ***,the expression of several inflammatory chemokine receptors was significantly reduced in diabetic *** conclusion,effector T-cell accumulation and TCR repertoire diversity reduction appear to precede the development of foot *** finding may open new immunological therapeutic possibilities and provide a new prognostic tool in diabetic wound care.

Knowledge of the state of water balance of agro-food products is an essential step in drying or storage operations for preservation. Our study made it possible to determine the thermodynamic parameters which influence the storage conditions of fresh tomatoes grown in the south of Benin;and to predict its hygroscopic behavior during post-harvest storage. The desorption isotherms obtained at 40℃, 50℃ and 60℃, by the static gravimetric method using saturated saline solutions, are compared with those of the theoretical models of Brunauer, Emmet and Teller (BET), SMITH, PELEG and Guggenheim-Anderson-Boer (GAB). An adjustment of the experimental points, on the theoretical models, was made thanks to the numerical method which exploits the fminsearch algorithm under the MATLAB software, version R2018a. The GAB model at 50℃ faithfully reproduces the experimental desorption curves for water activities from 5.5% to 82.3%. The net isosteric heat of sorption was determined using the clausius-clapeyron equation, it increases when the degree of dehydration of the product increases. The applied isokinetic theory and enthalpy-entropy compensation are consistent.

THE observation of the formation of triplex DNA opened a possibility to control gene expression. Since then vast applications on biology and novel approaches to therapeutics have been accumulated considerably. Novel approaches that have been developed in the past decades have the capability to supplement or to replace the classical drug paradigm of small molecules to the development of pharmaceuticals. The distinct field of oligonucleotide therapeutic can be possible when an additive oligonucleotide is targeted to a specified double helical DNA. The use of complementary DNA sequences to arrest translation of mRNAs also opens new possibilities for an artificial control of gene expression. The interest in the stability of the formation of a triplex DNA has been driven largely by the ability to synthesize oligonucleotides.

Effects of self-administered exercises based on Tuina techniques on musculoskeletal disorders of professional orchestra musicians: a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND： Musicians are frequently affected by playing-related musculoskeletal disorders （PRMD）. Common solutions used by Western medicine to treat musculoskeletal pain include rehabilitation programs and drugs, but their results are sometimes disappointing. OBJECTIVE： To study the effects of self-administered exercises based on Tuina techniques on the pain intensity caused by PRMD of professional orchestra musicians, using numeric visual scale （NVS）. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： We performed a prospective, controlled single-blinded, randomized study with musicians suffering from PRMD. Participating musicians were randomly distributed into the experimental （n = 39） and the control （n = 30） groups. After an individual diagnostic assessment, specific Tuina self-administered exercises were developed and taught to the participants. Musicians were instructed to repeat the exercises every day for 3 weeks. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Pain intensity was measured by NVS before the intervention and after 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20 d of treatment. The procedure was the same for the control group, however the Tuina exercises were executed in points away from the commonly-used acupuncture points. RESULTS： In the treatment group, but not the control group, pain intensity was significantly reduced on days 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 and 20. CONclUSION： The results obtained are consistent with the hypothesis that self-administered exercises based on Tuina techniques could help professional musicians controlling the pain caused by PRMD. Although our results are very promising, further studies are needed employing a larger sample size and double blinding designs.

In this paper we introduce a method of analysis for the automated ordenng and selection or solutions of a multicriteria shortest path model. The method is based on a reference point approach, where the paths in a specific priority region are ranked by non-decreasing order of a Chebyshev metric. In order to list paths according with this objective function a labelling algorithm is proposed. The developed method is applied in a video-traffic routing context. Computational results are presented and analysed, for randomly generated networks of significant dimension.

Zinc and Silver Salts-Containing Lamellar Titanium Phosphate: A Multifunctional Filler

Zinc and silver compounds have been studied because they have ultraviolet light barrier properties and bactericidal action, respectively. Materials with multifunctional characteristics have been sought to produce polymeric nanocomposites. In this work, the chemical modification of titanium phosphate (TiP) was carried out through a route with successive intercalations. TiP was synthesized and consecutively pre-expanded with ethylamine and pyromellitic acid. Then it was modified with zinc acetate and silver nitrate. The final product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, wide-angle X-ray diffractometry, field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. Infrared revealed dislocation and appearance of bands according to the intercalating agent. Inorganic salts interfered in the crystallization and melting processes of pyromellitic acid. Vanishing of the TiP hkl plane and variation and appearance of new crystallographic planes at low diffraction angles induced intercalation. SEM showed agglomerated structures. New thermal degradation events at higher temperatures endorsed the formation of zinc and silver carboxylate salts. We concluded that a new miscellaneous and multifunctional matter was achieved.

A good vascular condition is fundamental for kidney transplantation. A bad arterial or venous supply may compromise graft survival. Discovery in operating theater of vascular anomalies not diagnosed by medical imaging may overwhelm operating protocol. Our cases emphasize the issue of pre operating evaluation. The cases are those of two women, aged 48 and 25 years, with chronic renal insufficiency, for whom living donor kidney transplantation was decided. During the process, a total obstruction of iliac vein was found and led to a change of technique. The dilated ovarian vein was used for the venous anastomosis while the arterial anastomosis was as usually made using the iliac artery. Post-surgical follow up was uneventful. These cases emphasize on the mandatory pre operative evaluation and the respect of guidelines in the process of kidney transplantation. They also open access to other operating strategies. The objective of this publication was to present our experience in dealing with an obstructed iliac vein and emphasize on the necessity to assess accurately vascular state in kidney transplantation.

Influence of the Granular class of Crushed Granites on the Litho-Stabilization of Samo Laterites (South-East of Côte d’Ivoire)

Most of the laterites found in Ivory Coast do not meet the technical conditions to be used in their natural state for the design of road foundations. Also, to meet the growing needs for road materials, various amendments are made to them, including litho-stabilization. Thus, this study proposes to understand the influence of the granular class of natural aggregates on the performance of laterites. To achieve this objective, different proportions of crushed granites of class 0/5, 0/15 and 5/15 have been incorporated into the soils of southern Côte d’Ivoire, especially in Samo. This modified soil has been subjected to mechanical tests such as the modified Proctor and CBR test. The results obtained show that the dry densities of the incorporated laterites containing crushed granites increase with the content of natural aggregates and decrease with the increase in the water content. Likewise, the CBR bearing indices at 95% of the Modified Optimum Proctor of the different compositions (laterites + crushed granites) increase with the proportion of aggregates. The addition of coarse aggregates to the laterites therefore promotes the establishment of a framework which improves its bearing capacity. From 20% to 30% crushed granites respectively of class 0/15;0/5 and 5/15, the values of the CBR obtained are greater than those of 30% therefore these modified soils can be used as a foundation layer for traffic of T1, T2 and T3 type. Likewise, the laterites’ mixtures with at least 40% crushed granites of class 0/15 and 0/5 can also be used for the foundation and base layers.
