Progressive lung fibrosis is characterized by dysregulated extracellular matrix(eCM)***-ing of disease pathogenesis remains limited and has prevented the development of effective *** an abnormal wound-healing response is strongly implicated in lung fibrosis initiation,factors that determine why fi-brosis progresses rather than regular tissue repair occur are not fully *** human lung fibrosis,there is evidence of altered epithelial and mesenchymal populations as well as cells undergoing epithelial-mesenchymal transition(eMT),a dynamic and reversible biological process by which epithelial cells lose their cell polarity and down-regulate cadherin-mediated cell-cell adhesion to gain migratory *** review will focus on the role of eMT and dysregulated epithelial-mesenchymal crosstalk in progressive lung fibrosis.

The kinetics of aniline degradation by persulfate processes with iron（Ⅱ） activation at ambient temperature was investigated in this *** iron（Ⅱ） as initiator,the oxidation reactions were found to follow a biphasic rate phenomenon：a rapid transformation followed by a slow but sustained oxidation *** the first 30 s,the reaction mainly relies on the persulfate-Fe^（2＋） reaction in which aniline is oxidized *** 30 s,the aniline was still oxidized but the rate of reaction tended to be slower and the rates were clearly *** the initial fast oxidation,the reactions appeared to follow a pseudo-first-order model.

AIM: To test whether the replication of human rhinovirus(HRV) is regulated by micro RNAs in human bronchial epithelial ***: For the present study, the human cell line BeAS-2B(derived from normal human bronchial epithelial cells) was adopted. DICeR knock-down, by si RNA transfection in BeAS-2B cells, was performed in order to inhibit micro RNA maturation globally. Alternatively, antisense oligonucleotides(anti-mi Rs) were transfectedto inhibit the activity of specific micro RNAs. Cells were infected with HRV-1B. Viral replication was assessed by measuring the genomic viral RNA by reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR). Association between micro RNA-induced-silencing-complex and viral RNA was detected by Ago2 co-immunoprecipitation followed by RT-q PCR. Targetscan v.6 was used to predict micro RNA target sites on several HRV ***: Here, we show that micro RNAs affect replication of HRV-1B. DICeR knock-down significantly reduced the expression of mature micro RNAs in a bronchial epithelial cell line(BeAS-2B) and in turn, increased the synthesis of HRV-1B RNA. Additionally, HRV-1B RNA co-immunoprecipitated with argonaute 2 protein, an important effector for micro RNA activity suggesting that micro RNAs bind to viral RNA during infection. In order to identify specific micro RNAs involved in this interaction, we employed bioinformatics analysis, and selected a group of micro RNAs that have been reported to be under-expressed in asthmatic bronchial epithelial cells and were predicted to target different strains of rhinoviruses(HRV-1B,-16,-14,-27). Our results suggest that, out of this group of micro RNAs, mi R-128 and mi R-155 contribute to the innate defense against HRV-1B: transfection of specific anti-mi Rs increased viral replication, as anticipated ***: Taken together, our results suggest that pathological changes in micro RNA expression, as already reported for asthma or chronic obstructive pulmona

Advance Directives in the Context of Uncertain Prognosis for Residents of Nursing Homes

This report documents the findings of a mixed-methods study focused on the advanced directives of 182 residents of three LTC facilities in southern Ontario, Canada. Although almost all had a completed advance directive within 3 months of death, most did not have a palliative designation or directive until a few days before they died. each facility’s written Progress Notes revealed staff members usually sought additional confirmation of care preferences from residents’ substitute decision-makers within a few days of the death. It was thus common for advance directives to change from a more interventionist approach to the least interventionist approach near death. This change indicates that the meaning and significance of advance care planning and resulting advance directives must be considered in light of the processes and temporal factors involved in their completion and use within this distinct population. The relational nature of advance care planning and concern about ageism as a factor for withholding or withdrawing life support for LTC residents are considered as possible explanatory factors. These findings and their implications are described in relation to end-of-life care policies and practices in LTC facilities.

This paper presents engineering experiences from battery energy storage system(BeSS)projects that require design and implementation of specialized power conversion systems(a fast-response,automatic power converter and controller).These projects concern areas of generation,transmission,and distribution of electric energy,as well as end-energy user benefits,such as grid frequency regulation,renewable energy smoothing and leveling,energy dispatching and arbitrage,power quality and reliability improvements for connected customers,islanding operations,and smart microgrid *** general,a grid level BeSS project sends an interconnect request to utility power grids in the project development *** models of equipment are then sent for a system impact study(e.g.,power flow and/or stability analysis),based on utility grid code *** system study then determines the connection’s technical feasibility and impact of the project on the power *** this paper,a set of new BeSS models is presented that are configured and parameterized for use in system impact studies as well as transmission planning *** models,which have been recently approved and released by the *** electricity Coordinating Council(WeCC),represent the steady state and dynamic performance of the BeSS in several software platforms for power system studies based on operating project performance *** benchmarking results as well as a real system case study are also included in the paper to show that the parameterized and tuned models respond correctly and as expected when system operating conditions change following contingency ***,this paper provides useful guidelines in the use of new models to represent a BeSS for power system analysis.
