Study on ecosytem service function change of island based on remote sensing

Based on the interpretation of the remote sensing data presented by the resource satellite, this paper states the fact that the land-use area in Donghai Island, which is located in the south of Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, had expanded by 576.71 hm2 in the 25 years from 1986 to 2010 because of human activities such as land reclamation; in the meantime, great changes in types of land cover on the island have occurred. The definite change in land use leads to the remarkable transition in its ecosystem service value. Therefore, by applying the Costanza method in this paper to quantificationally analyze the changes in its ecosystem services on this island; the Costanza method is a calculation technique that shows the service value per unit area of island. It is found that from 1986 to 2010, especially in the recent years, due to the rapid development in the petrifaction, steel and port industries, the areas of cultivated land, woodland, grassland and desert have decreased in different degrees, while the lands for residence, industry and traffic construction and the areas of water and wetlands have increased. Consequently, compared with the number of RMB 547.57x10^6 yuan per year in 1986, the ecosystem service value of Donghai Island was greatly reduced to RMB 493.94x10^6 yuan per year in 2010. As for the spatial distribution, it presents a feature that it is higher in the west and low in the east. The results manifest that it is of great significance to analyze the changes in the ecosystem service function on the basis of the service value of the island presented by the remote sensing data in a quantificational way, which will contribute to the promotion of ecological compensation.

Typhoon is one of the frequent natural disasters in coastal regions of *** shown in many studies,the impact of typhoons on the South China Sea(SCS)should not be *** typhoon Rammasun(2014)was studied that formed in the northwestern Pacific,passed through the SCS,then landed in the Leizhou *** sensing data and model products were used to analyze the spatiotemporal variations of the cold eddies,upwelling,sea surface temperature,mixed layer depth,rainfall,sea surface salinity,suspended sediment concentration,and surface-level *** confirm the constant presence of upwelling and cold eddies in the southeast of Hainan(north of the Zhongsha Islands)and the southeast of Vietnam in *** addition,we found the strengthening effect of super typhoon Rammasun on the upwelling and cold eddies in the *** major reasons for the continuous decrease in sea surface temperature and the slow regaining of seawater temperature were the enhanced upwelling and vertical mixing caused by the *** increasing of the surface runoff in the Indochina Peninsula was mainly affected by the typhoon,with some contribution for the southeast of Vietnam’s cold eddy and upwelling.

Analysis of the regional spectral properties in northwestern South China Sea based on an empirical orthogonal function

This study presents an analysis of the spectral characteristics of remote sensing reflectance(Rrs)in northwestern South China Sea based on the in situ optical and water quality data for August *** initially divided into four classes,classes A to D,using the max-classification algorithm,and the spectral properties of whole Rrs were characterized using the empirical orthogonal function(EOF)***,the dominant factors in each EOF mode were *** results indicated that more than 95%of the variances of Rrs are partly driven by the back-scattering characteristics of the suspended *** initial two EOF modes were well correlated with the total suspended matter and back-scattering ***,the first EOF modes of the four classes of Rrs(A-D Rrs-EOF1)significantly contributed to the total variances of each Rrs *** addition,the correlation coefficients between the amplitude factors of class A-D Rrs-EOF1 and the variances of the relevant water quality and optical parameters were better than those of the unclassified *** spectral shape of class ARrs-EOF1 was governed by the absorption characteristic of chlorophyll a and colored dissolved organic matter(CDOM).The spectral shape of class B Rrs-EOF1 was governed by the absorption characteristic of CDOM since it exhibited a high correlation with the absorption coefficient of CDOM(ag(λ)),whereas the spectral shape of class C Rrs-EOF1 was governed by the back-scattering characteristics but not affected by the suspended *** spectral shape of class D Rrs-EOF1 exhibited a relatively good correlation with all the water quality parameters,which played a significant role in deciding its spectral shape.

Parameter selection and model research on remote sensing evaluation for nearshore water quality

Using remote sensing technology for water quality evaluation is an inevitable trend in marine environmental monitoring. However, fewer categories of water quality parameters can be monitored by remote sensing technology than the 35 specified in GB3097-1997 Marine Water Quality Standard. Therefore, we considered which parameters must be selected by remote sensing and how to model for water quality evaluation using the finite parameters. In this paper, focused on Leizhou Peninsula nearshore waters, we found N, P, COD, PH and DO to be the dominant parameters of water quality by analyzing measured data. Then, mathematical statistics was used to determine that the relationship among the five parameters was COD〉DO〉P〉N〉pH. Finally, five-parameter, fourparameter and three-parameter water quality evaluation models were established and compared. The results showed that COD, DO, P and N were the necessary parameters for remote sensing evaluation of the Leizhou Peninsula nearshore water quality, and the optimal comprehensive water quality evaluation model was the four- parameter model. This work may serve as a reference for monitoring the quality of other marine waters by remote sensing.

Spatiotemporal characteristics and remote sensing estimation of colored dissolved organic matter around the Leizhou Peninsula

Colored dissolved organic matter(CDOM)is an important optically active substance in marine *** biochemical conservatism makes it an important indicator to offshore pollution *** the content,composition,and diffusion process of CDOM is a good approach to analyze the terrestrial input,optical properties,and ecological environment of offshore *** spatiotemporal characteristics of CDOM around the Leizhou Peninsula were analyzed based on field observation data collected in the autumn 2020 and spring 2021,and an empirical inversion model of the ag(355)(absorption coefficient at 355 nm)and spectral slope(Sg)(g stands for gelbstoff/gilvin,which is called CDOM)based on Sentinel-3A ocean and land color instrument(OLCI)images was *** results show(1)the order of average ag(355)value around the Leizhou Peninsula was east coast(0.503/m)>Qiongzhou Strait(0.502/m)>west coast(0.365/m);(2)the best band combinations of CDOM inversion in spring and autumn were(B4+B11)/B3 and(B7-B1)/B6(B stands for the band of spectral images),and the final inversion results are close to the measured results,indicating that the model has good accuracy;(3)the S_(g)value of the CDOM absorption spectrum was fitted to the hyperbolicexponential *** fitting accuracy of the model was higher than those of the exponential model and the hyperbolic model,and the best S_(g)inversion model was constructed by selecting Sg(275-295)and Sg(250-295)in spring and autumn;(4)the spatial distributions of ag(355)and S_(g)were inverted,and CDOM in the waters around the Leizhou Peninsula originated from terrestrial organic matter carried by coastal aquaculture zones and runoff in the northeast Zhanjiang and the northern Beibu Gulf.

Calculating the sediment flux of the small coastal watersheds:a modification of global equations

Two kinds of regression equations are used to reproduce the sediment flux of the 26 small coastal watersheds in southeastern *** first kind is the global equations suggested by Milliman and Syvitski(1992),Mulder and Syvitski(1996),Syvitski et al.(2003),and Syvitski and Milliman(2007).The second kind is the modified equations revised by the characteristics of the coastal watersheds,including the drainage area,mean water discharge,and mean sediment *** with the observations of the hydrometric stations,the global equations overestimate the sediment flux by 1–2 orders of *** using the modified equations,the accuracy of the estimated sediment flux is significantly improved,with the relative error in the range of 7%–24%.The reason for the overestimation mainly caused by different parameters’domain and regression coefficients between global rivers and study coastal *** study demonstrates that modification needs to be considered when using global regression equations to reproduce the sediment flux of the small coastal watersheds in southeastern China.

Noise‐tolerant matched filter scheme supplemented with neural dynamics algorithm for sea island extraction

Achieving high‐precision extraction of sea islands from high‐resolution satellite remote sensing images is crucial for effective resource development and sustainable ***,achieving such accuracy for sea island extraction presents significant challenges due to the presence of extensive background interference.A more widely applicable noise‐tolerant matched filter(NTMF)scheme is proposed for sea island extraction based on the MF *** NTMF scheme effectively suppresses the background interference,leading to more accurate and robust sea island *** further enhance the accuracy and robustness of the NTMF scheme,a neural dynamics algorithm is supplemented that adds an error integration feedback term to counter noise interference during internal computer operations in practical *** comparative experiments were conducted on various remote sensing images of sea islands under different noisy working conditions to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed neural dynamics algorithm‐assisted NTMF *** experiments confirm the ad-vantages of using the NTMF scheme for sea island extraction with the assistance of neural dynamics algorithm.

Estimation of total suspended matter in the Zhujiang (Pearl) River estuary from Hyperion imagery

Although remote sensing data have been used to estimate total suspended matter （TSM） in coastal waters, it has limitations when applied to estuary waters in low spatial resolution situations. The spatial resolution of ocean color satellites such as SeaWiFS and MODIS is usually -1 km, and therefore is not adequate for small, local-scale areas such as the Zhujiang （Pearl） River estuary. In contrast, 30 m-resolution EO-1 Hyperion imagery has potential for studying TSM in localized areas. We measured the surface spectral radiance reflectance of the river estuary water in the visible and near infra-red spectral range. Sensitivity analysis indicated that the ratio of remote sensing reflectance at 813 nm （Rrs（813）） to reflectance at 559 nm （Rrs（559）） could be used to estimate TSM concentration, and a linear relationship was established between the ratio and in-situ TSM concentration. We applied the linear relationship to Hyperion imagery to map TSM concentration in the estuary. The Hyperion imagery provided sufficient spatial resolution to detect spatiotemporal changes in TSM concentrations in the estuary small estuary area. Remote sensing analysis of mangrove distribution and dynamics in Zhanjiang from 1991 to 2011

Mangrove forests provide valuable societal and ecological services and goods. However, they have been experiencing high annual rates of loss in many parts of the world. In order to evaluate a long-term wetland conservation strategy that compromises urban development with comprehensive wetland ecosystem management, remote sensing techniques were used to analyze the changing mangrove distribution in the Zhanjiang Mangrove Forest National Nature Reserve. Between 1991 and 2000, the mangrove area within the study region declined from 2 264.9 to 2 085.9 ha consistent with an annual decrease of 0.79%. However, there was an overall 34.3% increase in mangrove coverage from 2 085.9 to 2 801.8 ha between 2000 and 2011. Major causes of forest loss include local human pressures in the form of deforestation, conversion to agriculture, and natural forces such as erosion. The recent gain in mangrove forest cover is attributed to eff ective conservation management in the nature reserve area, including intensive mangrove plantation eff orts and increased local awareness of wetland conservation.

Factors affecting spring bloom in the South of Cheju Island in the East China Sea

A soil circulation occurs in the south of Cheju Island in the spring. Nutrients and its influence on chloro-phyll a （Chla） around the circulations were studied from April 9 to May 6, 2007. Spring bloom with elevated concentrations of Chla was observed during the investigation. High concentrations of phosphate, nitrate and silicate at 0.6, 12, and 8 mmol/m3, respectively, were detected. A low water temperature prevented the growth of phytoplankton. Chla concentrations in the study area might be strongly associated with the high silicate concentration.
