Institutional Investors, Earnings Quality and Asset Liquidity： Evidence from China＇s Stock Market

This paper investigates how institutional holding and earnings quality influence the liquidity of assets. Contrary to findings in developed markets, we document several novel results in China＇s stock market：（1） institutional holding negatively affects assets＇ liquidity, （2） earnings quality is negatively related with liquidity. Since earnings quality captures asymmetric information, low earnings quality induces high divergence in investor opinions and thus boosts market trading, and （3） interestingly, the effect of earnings quality on liquidity is greater if institutional investors＇ holding is at a high level. Overall, our findings cast doubt on the conventional wisdom that institutional investors and earnings quality improve market liquidity. The results are robust to different measures and alternative model specifications.

A secondary amino-modified mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 was obtained by reaction of bis(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl)amine with MCM-41. The chiral Salen-Mn (III) complex was anchored onto the modified MCM-41 by a multi-step grafting method and two heterogenized catalysts with different Mn contents were obtained. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption, ICP, FT-IR and DR UV-Vis. Their catalysis on asymmetric epoxidation of several olefins was studied with NaClO and m-CPBA as oxidants respectively. It was found that both the activity and enantioselectivity of the cata- lysts decreased after the homogeneous catalyst was heterogenized. The reasons resulting in the de- crease of catalytic performance were discussed.

In-Situ FT-IR Investigation Methane to Syngas over of Partial Oxidation of Rh/SiO2 Catalyst

Partial oxidation of methane to syngas （POM） over Rh/SiO2 catalyst was investigated using in-situ FT-IR. When methane interacted with 1.0wt%Rh/SiO2 catalyst, it was dissociated to adsorbed hydrogen and CHx species. The adsorbed hydrogen atoms were transferred to SiO2 surface by ＂spill-over＂ and reacted with lattice oxygen to form surface -OH species. POM mechanism was investigated over Rh/SiO2 catalyst using in-situ FT-IR. It was found that CO2 was formed before CO could be detected when CH4 and O2 were introduced over the preoxidized Rh/SiO2 catalyst, whereas CO was detected before CO2 was formed over the prereduced Rh/SiO2 catalyst.

Long-term commitment is a motivational factor that drives people towards entrepreneurship. Scholars and practitioners have lacked a robust and validated instrument for measuring long-term commitment and its dimensions in the specific context of entrepreneurship. Based on a unique dataset of emigration statuses of Chinese entrepreneurs, we develop an instrument of entrepreneurial long-term commitment and test its impacts on corporate outcomes and entrepreneurs’ individual behaviors. We observe that entrepreneurial long-term commitment significantly affects corporate policies, long-term shareholder wealth and entrepreneurs’ individual behaviors. Our research also helps to evaluate the values of these entrepreneurs in China.
