Wettability regulation from superhydrophilic to superhydrophobic via nanosecond laser ablation

Metal surfaces play a crucial role in numerous applications,from self-cleaning and anti-icing to anti-fogging and oil-water *** regulation of their wettability is essential to enhance their performance in these *** paper proposes a multi-state regulation method for metal surface wettability,leveraging nanosecond laser *** creating non-uniform microstructures on a metal surface,the contact area between the solid and liquid phases can be increased,resulting in the attainment of superhydrophilic properties(contact angle(CA),ranging from 4.6°to 8.5°).Conversely,the construction of uniform microstructures leads to a decreased solid-liquid contact area,thereby rendering the metal surface hydrophilic(CA=12.2°–53°).Furthermore,through heat treatment on a surface with uniform microstructures,organic matter adsorption can be promoted while simultaneously reducing surface *** process results in the metal surface acquiring hydrophobic properties(CA=92.1°–133.5°),facilitated by the“air cushion effect.”Building on the hydrophobic surface,stearic acid modification can further reduce surface energy,ultimately bestowing the metal surface with superhydrophobic properties(CA=150.1°–152.7°,and sliding angle=3.8°).Performance testing has validated the durability and self-cleaning effectiveness of the fabricated superhydrophobic surface while also highlighting the excellent anti-fog performance of the superhydrophilic *** findings strongly indicate the immense potential of these surfaces in various engineering applications.

Particle-fluid system is one of the most popular systems in chemical *** to complex interface structure and high-velocity turbulence,the momentum and mass transfer exhibit nonlinear characteristics,which pose a great challenge for further study and *** solve this problem,computational mass transfer(CMT)emerged and has been proved to be effective in deeply exploring the mass transfer behavior of particle-fluid ***,this paper reviews recent gas-solid numerical studies of turbulence issues from empirical to theoretical,then discusses interphase mass transfer rate models and the interfacial interaction ***,the present study particularly reviews researches on mass transfer process of fixed and fluidized regime by CMT,providing reliable analysis of turbulent anisotropy diffusivity as well as multiscale structure and presenting theoretical instruction for the industrial optimization of mass transfer processes in chemical engineering.

High adsorption selectivity of activated carbon and carbon molecular sieve boosting CO_(2)/N_(2) and CH_(4)/N_(2) separation

Flue gas and coal bed methane are two important sources of greenhouse *** swing adsorption process has a wide range of application in the field of gas separation,and the selection of adsorbent is *** this regard,in order to assess the better adsorbent for separating CO_(2) from flue gas and CH_(4) from coal bed methane,adsorption isotherms of CO_(2),CH_(4) and N_(2) on activated carbon and carbon molecular sieve are measured at 303.15,318.15 and 333.15 K,and up to 250 *** experimental data fit better with Langmuir 2 compared to Langmuir 3 and Langmuir-Freundlich models,and Clausius-Clapeyron equation was used to calculate the isosteric *** the order of the adsorbed amount and the adsorption heat on the two adsorbents are CO_(2)>CH_(4)>N_(2).The adsorption kinetics are calculated by the pseudo-first kinetic model,and the order of adsorption rates on activated carbon is N_(2)-CH_(4)>CO_(2),while on carbon molecular sieve,it is CO_(2)-N_(2)>CH_(4).It is shown that relative molecular mass and adsorption heat are the primary effect on kinetics for activated carbon,while kinetic diameter is the main resistance factor for carbon molecular ***,the adsorption selectivity of CH_(4)/N_(2) and CO_(2)/N_(2) were estimated with the ideal adsorption solution theory,and carbon molecular sieve performed best at 318.15 K for both CO_(2) and CH_(4) *** study suggested that activated carbon is a better choice for separating flue gas and carbon molecular sieve can be a strong candidate for separating coal bed methane.

A green cross-linking method for the preparation of renewable threedimensional graphene sponges for efficient adsorption of Congo red dye

Graphene-based materials possess significant potential for the treatment of dye wastewater due to their exceptional adsorption properties toward stubborn ***,their utilization is hindered by high preparation costs,low yields,environmental pollution during synthesis,and challenges in regenerating the *** study proposes a novel approach to address these limitations by developing nitrogen-doped three-dimensional(3D)polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)crosslinked graphene sponges(N-PGA)using a cross-linking method with ammonium *** method offers a relatively mild,environmentally friendly *** carbonate serves as both a reducing and modifying agent,facilitating the formation of the intrinsic structure of N-PGA and acting as a nitrogen ***,PVA is utilized as the cross-linking *** results demonstrate that N-PGA exhibits a favorable internal 3D hierarchical porous structure and possesses robust mechanical *** measured specific surface area(BET)of N-PGA was as high as406.538 m^(2)·g^(-1),which was favorable for its efficient adsorption of Congo red(CR)dye *** an initial concentration of 50 mg·L^(-1),N-PGA achieved an impressive removal rate of 89.6%and an adsorption capacity of 112 mg·g^(-1)for CR ***,it retained 79%of its initial adsorption capacity after 10 cycles,demonstrating excellent regeneration *** summary,the synthesized N-PGA displays remarkable efficacy in the adsorption of CR dye in wastewater,opening up new possibilities for utilizing 3D porous graphene nanomaterials as efficient adsorbents in wastewater treatment.

Impact of wastewater treatment plant effluent discharge on the antibiotic resistome in downstream aquatic environments:a mini review

Antimicrobial resistance(AMR)has emerged as a significant challenge in human *** treatment plants(WWTPs),acting as a link between human activities and the environment,create ideal conditions for the selection and spread of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)and antibioticresistant bacteria(ARB).Unfortunately,current treatment processes are ineffective in removing ARGs,resulting in the release of large quantities of ARB and ARGs into the aquatic environment through WWTP ***,in turn,leads to their dispersion and potential transmission to human through water and the food *** safeguard human and environmental health,it is crucial to comprehend the mechanisms by which WWTP effluent discharge influences the distribution and diffusion of ARGs in downstream *** this study,we examine the latest researches on the antibiotic resistome in various waterbodies that have been exposed to WWTP effluent,highlighting the key influencing ***,recommendations for future research and management strategies to control the dissemination of ARGs from WWTPs to the environment are provided,with the aim to achieve the“One Health”objective.

Critical current degradation in an epoxy-impregnated rare-earth Ba_(2)Cu_(3)O_(7-x)coated conductor caused by damage during a quench

High-temperature superconducting(HTS)rare-earth Ba_(2)Cu_(3)O_(7-x)(REBCO)coated conductors(CCs)have significant potential in high-current and high-field ***,owing to the weak interface strength of the laminated composite REBCO CCs,the damage induced by the thermal mismatch stress under a combination of epoxy impregnation,cooling,and quenching can cause premature degradation of the critical *** this study,a three-dimensional(3D)electromagnetic-thermal-mechanical model based on the H-formulation and cohesive zone model(CZM)is developed to study the critical current degradation characteristics in an epoxy-impregnated REBCO CC caused by the damage during a *** temperature variation,critical current degradation of the REBCO CC,and its degradation onset temperature calculated by the numerical model are in agreement with the experimental data taken from the *** delamination of the REBCO CC predicted by the numerical model is consistent with the experimental *** numerical results also indicate that the shear stress is the main contributor to the damage propagation inside the REBCO *** premature degradation of the critical current during a quench is closely related to the interface shear strength inside the REBCO ***,the effects of the coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)of the epoxy resin,thickness of the substrate,and substrate material on the critical current degradation characteristics of the epoxy-impregnated REBCO CC during a quench are also *** results help us understand the relationship between the current-carrying degradation and damage in the HTS applications.

Spray characteristics of different regions downstream of a swirl cup

The spray characteristics of different regions downstream of swirl cups play a critical role in cold start and re-ignition of gas *** spray measurements were performed at the fuel pressures of 0.5,0.8,1.0,1.5,and 2.0 MPa and the fuel temperatures of-23,-13,-3,7,17 and 27℃,*** droplet size,droplet velocity,droplet number,and instantaneous spatial spray image of sprays from an aviation kerosene Jet-A were measured using a two-component phase Doppler particle analyzer and a digital off-axis holography *** the fuel pressure and temperature increase,the Sauter Mean Diameter(SMD)and spray non-uniformity of the Spray Shear Layer(SSL)gradually *** the fuel pressure increases,the SMD and spray non-uniformity of the Central Toroidal Recirculation Zone(CTRZ)gradually decrease,and the slopes of these curves both *** the fuel pressure increases,the SMD and spray nonuniformity of the CTRZ rapidly decrease at the fuel temperature of23℃,while slightly decrease at the fuel temperature of 27℃.The droplets in the CTRZ come from 3 different sources:simplex nozzle,venturi,and outside the *** the fuel pressure increases,the proportion of droplets recirculated from outside the CTRZ *** study proposed the concept of the“pressure critical point”for the swirl *** the fuel temperature decreases,the proportion of droplets recirculated from outside the CTRZ increases below the critical pressure,while decreases above the critical *** addition,through the models of liquid film formation and breakup on the curved cylindrical wall,a semi-theoretical model was established to predict the SMD of SSL for swirl *** prediction uncertainty of this model is less than 6%for all 14 conditions in this paper.

Effects of the Rainfall-Triggered lisse Effect on the Stability of Loess Slopes

This paper coupled a water-air two-phase hydrodynamic(WATPH)model with the Iverson’s method to analyze the influence of the lisse effect on the fast groundwater pressure(P_(w))response and the slope ***,the sensitivities of the driving force and loess soil parameters were *** showed that the WATPH model simulated the height and rise of the depth to the water table reasonably *** depth to water table before rainfall(H0)had a significant impact on the lisse effect and the slope *** the H_(0) was less than approximately 1 m,the rainfall triggered a significant lisse effect and decreased the slope factor of safety(F_(s)).When the rainfall intensity(R_(i))was higher than the saturated hydraulic conductivity(K_(s)),the lisse effect and the F_(s) slightly changed with the increase of the R_(i),and the slope tended to be unstable with continuous *** increasing K_(s),the lisse effect noticeably increased,and the minimum F_(s) quickly *** analysis of the normalized sensitivity coefficient revealed that H_(0) had a dramatic impact on the lisse effect and loess slope *** different R_(i) and K_(s) values had prominent influences on the lisse effect and slight impacts on F_(s).

Sulfur chemistry in the formation process of low-mass stars and planets remains poorly *** protoplanetary disks are the birthplace of planets and its distinctive environment provides an intriguing platform for investigating models of sulfur *** analyzed the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of CS 7-6 transitions in the HD 163296 disk and performed astrochemical modeling to explore its sulfur *** simulated the distribution of sulfur-containing molecules and compared it with observationally deduced fractional column *** have found that the simulated column density of CS is consistent with the observationally deduced fractional column densities,while the simulated column density of C_(2)S is lower than the observationally deduced upper limits on column *** results indicate that we have a good understanding of the chemical properties of CS and C_(2)S in the *** also investigated the influence of the C/O ratio on sulfur-containing molecules and found that the column densities of SO,SO_(2),and H_2S near the centra star are dependent on the C/O ***,we found that the N[CS]/N[SO]ratio can serve as a promising indicator of the disk’s C/O ratio in HD ***,the disk of HD 163296 provides a favorable environmen for the detection of sulfur-containing molecules.
