Mass transfer enhancement and hydrodynamic performance with wire mesh coupling solid particles in bubble column reactor

It is of vital significance to investigate mass transfer enhancements for chemical engineering *** work focuses on investigating the coupling influence of embedding wire mesh and adding solid particles on bubble motion and gas-liquid mass transfer process in a bubble *** image velocimetry(PIV)technology was employed to analyze the flow field and bubble motion behavior,and dynamic oxygen absorption technology was used to measure the gas-liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient(kLa).The effect of embedding wire mesh,adding solid particles,and wire mesh coupling solid particles on the flow characteristic and kLa were analyzed and *** results show that the gas-liquid interface area increases by 33%-72%when using the wire mesh coupling solid particles strategy compared to the gas-liquid two-phase flow,which is superior to the other two strengthening *** with the system without reinforcement,kLa in the bubble column increased by 0.5-1.8 times with wire mesh coupling solid particles method,which is higher than the sum of kLa increases with inserting wire mesh and adding particles,and the coupling reinforcement mechanism for affecting gas-liquid mass transfer process was discussed to provide a new idea for enhancing gas-liquid mass transfer.

Mast cells and basophils are multifunctional effector cells that contain abundant secretory granules in their cytoplasm. Both cell types are involved in a variety of inflammatory and immune events, producing an array of inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines. The aim of the study was to examine whether isoquercitrin modulates allergic and inflammatory reactions in the human basophilic KU812 cells and to elucidate its influence on the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) and nuclear factor(NF)-κB activation. The KU812 cells were stimulated with phorbol-12-myristate 13-acetate plus the calcium ionophore A23187(PMACI). The inhibitory effects of isoquercitrin on the productions of histamine and pro-inflammatory cytokines in the stimulated KU812 cells were measured using cytokine-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent(EliSA) assays. Western blotting analysis was used to assess the effects of isoquercitrin on the MAPKs and NF-κB protein levels. Our results indicated that the isoquercitrin treatment of PMACI-stimulated KU812 cells significantly reduced the production of histamine and the pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin(IL)-6, IL-8, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α. The treated cells exhibited decreased phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK), revealing the role of ERK MAPK in isoquercitrin-mediated allergy inhibition. Furthermore, isoquercitrin suppressed the PMACI-mediated activation of NF-κB in the human basophil cells. In conclusion, the results from the present study provide insights into the potential therapeutic use of isoquercitrin for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic reactions.

A Reliable Routing Algorithm with Network Coding in Internet of Vehicles

The intelligent vehicle network uses advanced information technology to establish an efficient integrated vehicle transport system, which has received great attention in industry and academia, lnternet of Vehicles （loV） in an urban environment is operated in a wireless environment with high bit error rate and interference. In addition, the wireless link between vehicles is likely to be lost. All of this makes it an important challenge to provide reliable mobile routing in an urban traffic environment. In this paper, a reliable routing algorithm with network coding （RR_ NC） is proposed to solve the above problems. A routing node sequence is discovered in IoV from source to destination by multi-metric ant colony optimization algorithm （MACO）, and then clusters are formed around every node in the sequence. By adding linear encoding into the transmission of data between vehicle＇s clusters, the RR_NC provides much more reliable transmission and can recover the original message in the event of disorder and loss of message. Simulations are taken under different scenarios, and the results prove that this novel algorithm can deliver the information more reliably between vehicles in real-time with lower data loss and communication overhead.

Penicillin-resistant characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine mastitis in Gansu,China

Bovine mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus is difficult to treat because of increasing resistance against antibiotics, especially penicillin. β-Lactamase and biofilm are responsible for penicillin resistance of S. aureus. The aim of this study was to investigate the β-lactamase activity and biofilm formation capacity of 37 penicillin-resistant S. aureus strains （35 were blaZ positive and 2 were blaZ negative） from bovine mastitis in Gansu Province, China, as well as to measure the intercellular adhesion genes icaA and icaD of these strains. β-Lactamase Test Kit was used to determine the β-lactamase activity, biofilm formation was tested by semi-quantitative adherence assay method. Moreover, the presence of icaA and icaD were measured by PCR. A total of 32 penicillin-resistant S. aureus strains, including the two blaZ-negative strains, were identified as β-lactamase producers. All tested S. aureus isolates produced biofilm in the microtiter plate assay. Meanwhile, all these strains were PCR-positive for the ica locus, icaA and icaD. The study indicated high prevalence of β-lactamase activity, biofilm-forming capacity, and the ica genes among the penicillin-resistant S. aureus isolates, and implied that S. aureus resistant to penicillin was attributed to multiple mechanisms.

Exploring highly active earth-abundant bifu nctional electrocatalysts for water splitting at a high output is essential for the forthcoming hydrogen ***-noble Fe_(3)O_(4) catalyst owns outstanding conductivity and its octahedral Fe sites can markedly promote water ***,it lacks active centers on the surface,resulting in its poor activity when used as a catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,an electron redistribution strategy is proposed by introducing Ni sites onto the surface of Fe_(3)O_(4)(Ni/Fe_(3)O_(4)).The abundant delocalized electrons,derived from the electronic interaction of Ni and Fe_(3)O_(4) species,significantly optimize the electronic structure of the Ni/Fe_(3)O_(4) catalyst,leading to its improved adsorption *** Ni/Fe_(3)O_(4) catalyst exhibits remarkable bifunctional activity,steadily outputting 1000 mA cm^(-2)at the low overpotential of 387 mV for HER and 338 mV for OER,*** Ni/Fe_(3)O_(4) as a bifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting reaction exhibits the optimal performance with outstanding stability,obtaining a current density of1000 mA cm^(-2)at 1.98 V,much superior to a Pt/C‖IrO_(2)*** analysis and theoretical calculations collectively corroborate that the electron redistribution of Fe_(3)O_(4) is activated by coupling Ni species,leading to the promoted HER and OER *** electron redistribution strategy provides an effective method to activate transition metal-based catalysts which are promising to be utilized as superior electrocatalysts for the industrial overall water splitting reaction.
